  • Stephen Flynn gets a telling off from the Speaker of the Commons for waving a newspaper around during PMQs. The leader of the SNP in Westminster grumbles about his new seat next to the Conservatives on the opposition benches after the party lost 39 seats in the general election.

    Labour will get rid of the cap once they've costed it, it will happen in the first or second budget.
    They were elected on fiscal responsibility, they can't chuck that out of the window now.

      no economist but a comprimise solution would be keep it BUT increase it to three in tax year 2025-26 and then if the financial waters are sound to four and keep it at four in tax year 2028-29

    Today the Mother of Parliaments in London made me proud for the first time in many years as a gracious loser and humble winner conducted politics in the way ot should be conducted. USA take note.

    It's so refreshing to see civility reign at PMQ's instead of circus clownery we've been used to. I hope it stays that way. I want to se sensible government and sensible meaningful opposition without haranguing and baiting.

    It’s as if the only key to reducing child poverty is the two child cap on universal credit, if we really want to reduce child poverty in a meaningful and lasting way it has to be about more than that.

      It is the single greatest cause of child poverty in the UK though. The data is very clear, child poverty exploded after it was introduced.

    It's funny how the two child gap is only now being discussed when Labour are in power. I barely remember it getting a mention in the Times under the Tories over the last few years. It just shows that the press judge the two parties using different methods...

    Interesting how the seat previously occupied by either Dennis Skinner or Edward Heath, depending on who was in power, is now established as the rightful place for the leader of the third biggest party in the Commons.

    The truth is I have 3 children and I’m not against keeping the cap . The truth is there are sections of our community from other ethnic backgrounds who traditionally have many children . The state should I not fund those cultural/religious choices on family numbers . Most who are sanctioned and had their whip removed have predominantly Muslim constituents and larger families . I have no problem our Muslim citizens having a lot of children . That’s their choice , and the same applies to catholics and Jewish families or any other group who want big families , but don’t expect me to pay for it !!!!

      Have you gone back 4 decades or something, when that term was imagined because of a vote to get rid of a dead Labour govt? SNP are centre left. The majority of SNP supporters come from traditional Labour backgrounds, who know we can only achieve a truly left leaning govt within an independent Scotland.
