I appreciate the fact that you are a coaster enthusiast who is not a coaster "snob". I've watched many of your videos, and you regularly have positive things to say about coasters that are disliked or would probably be disliked by many other enthusiasts. I think you have a very good (and often unique) perspective on coaster experiences. With that being said, the parking lot at Carowinds is only a 2 hour drive from my doorstep - so I consider it to be one of my two "home parks" (the other park is Dollywood, which is a 90 minute drive from my doorstep). I go to both parks regularly, but for the past few months I've been spending more time at Carowinds. Your top 4 coasters on this list are also my 4 favorites, but just with some differences in order. Fury 325 is my favorite at Carowinds and my #1 coaster as of now (which I've mentioned in other comments on some of your other videos). Intimidator is my 2nd favorite at Carowinds. Afterburn is my 3rd favorite. Copperhead Strike is my fourth. I sometimes consider Copperhead Strike to be #3, but I just can't let go of the intensity factor that Afterburn has that makes it one higher for me than Copperhead Strike. Copperhead Strike is still a shitload of fun, and I have no complaints about it whatsoever. It's been quite a few years since I've ridden Nighthawk (it's been closed for several months now, so I haven't been able to ride it lately). But I loved Nighthawk when I last rode it. I've always been surprised that it gets so much hate. I never had a bad ride on it, and especially loved the vertical loop (that's an excellent inversion in my opinion). I used to hate Vortex, but I actually got a really good ride on it last weekend (then followed later by a painful ride). Still, that one good ride I did have made me realize that it's not such a bad coaster after all - as long as you get a painless or near-painless ride on it. I was surprised how much I enjoyed both the inversions and some of the forces I felt on that one good ride. I plan to ride it again when I go back to Carowinds, in hopes of getting more good rides on it. I haven't given up on it completely as I have done with Carolina Cyclone. I grew up riding Carolina Cyclone, and I used to love it. But for the past few months, each of my rides on it has been incredibly uncomfortable (and I stress uncomfortable). Besides that, I just find it to be dull and uneventful. Given the level of discomfort and the boredom of the ride, I have no desire to ever ride it again. Carolina Goldrusher was my first ever roller coaster ride back in 1975, when I was five years old. It was the most thrilling coaster in the park at the time, and I was terrified while waiting in line for my first ride on it. My friend's mother more or less forced us to ride it with her. I was crying all the way up the first lift hill. After that, I was in heaven. I loved it. It was from that trip that I fell in love with amusement park rides. So, while I might not get much excitement out of Carolina Goldrusher now, it does have sentimental value for me (while also playing a role in my evolution as an amusement park ride fanatic).
I really dont know where Nighthawk's bad reputation comes from because I feel like every person that rides it is surprised that it was actually great. I never hear anyone say that it's bad 🤷♂️
My only issue with it is that the ride ops are super slow and leave you sitting on the brake run for 5+ minutes laying upside down, I would enjoy it more if it wasn't for the ride ops

@@CoasterDash Yeah it's easily one of the best in the U.S. if not the world. I hope you get to ride Eejinaika ( or however it's spelled ) in Japan within a year or 2 or 3 because I know how much you like X2 by the way.
Rule of thumb: rides like that (low capacity coasters)- when the park opens, don't walk, but RUN to it....get it OUT of the way before lines develop...rides that have high capacity you can always get on sooner than later.
If you swapped the placement of Hurler & Vortex, we would have the same list. Great coaster collection and the coasters that surprised me in how good they were was Vortex & Copperhead. I heard people say Vortex was the worst B&M coaster around but even though it is a weak B&M, it's still the best stand-up I've ridden (other ones I've ridden being Georgia Scorcher & Green Lantern). With Copperhead, I heard people say it was a good launch coaster but nothing more. Maybe I had abnormally great rides but I felt like it was a slightly weaker version of Maverick or Fahrenheit. Although it wasn't as intense as Maverick, the transitions and speed in the ride provided a similar feel to it. Great park; can't wait to return!
Carolina goldrush is great for kids. Carolina cyclone is the first roller coaster in Carowinds that had a loop, it came with two loops and two corkscrews.
Copperhead Strike is themed after moonshine running. The Appalachian Mountains are still home to some shiners. The theming all nods to this pasttime. Heck, NASCAR got its start in moonshine. That’s also why the coaster is located in “Blue Ridge Junction.”
Great video. I just went yesterday for the first time and had a blast. 5 rides on Fury including 1 night time in the front but 4 in the back today. Copperhead Strike also blew my mind in 4 rides with the front being even better than the back yet a middle night run just shocked me with how good it was. Intimidator was worth 2 rides but if it didn’t have those trims the floater air I got would have been ejector and I think it’d seriously challenge Fury. I skipped all the kid rides and Flying Cobra as well because it looked to rough for my head, and that’s because Hurler beat me senseless. I kept thinking about shaken baby syndrome and I was the baby. I put it at the bottom of my list and pray it’ll get converted because Carowinds really needs a ride focused on intense ejector air. Copperhead touches on it a bit but nothing like an RMC.
knight hawk was the first roller coaster i ever went on. no small coasters that was the first because my friends thought it would be better to throw me in the fire lol. that was so long ago when it was the borg assimilator. it will always be one on my list for that reason. but i agree i dont see why so many people hate it
Finally someone who ranked the top four just like I do sometimes copperhead and Afterburn switch for me but intimidator is definitely solid number four I just don’t think it’s a good enough hyper coaster to juxtapose how good fury afterburn and copperhead are in their respective categories
Hurler is way too hated, it has decent airtime and the roughness doesn't matter because the seats are comfortable, not saying I wouldn't want it to be RMCed, because I totally would like it to :)
impressions I've gotten of rankings for this park after going this year is that hurler is wayyyyyy too overhated and carolina cyclone is wayyyyy too underhated. Cyclone almost ruined my whole weekend cause of how bad the headache I got on it was. Never want to ride that one again. I know they've done retracking on hurler but it wasn't really painful at all and the first half is a ton of fun
I got to experience Carowinds for the first time earlier this month! My rankings are vastly different outside of the top 4 tho lol. 1. Fury (duh) Gotta emphasize the distance between fury and everything else. 2. Copperhead 3. Intimidator 4. Afterburn 5. Vortex 6. Carolina goldrusher 7. The flying cobras 8. Hurler 9. Carolina cyclone 10. Nighthawk Everything else I didn't get a chance to ride unfortunately. I found nighthawk and cyclone to be quite painful and hurler felt like it was going to collapse as I was riding it.
Carowinds is my home park and I am constantly puzzled by the people that hate Nighthawk on youtube. I have ridden it hundreds of times over the years and always enjoy it. In fact, the people I am in line with, waiting endlessly to ride it seem to like it as well. The only think I don't like is the long load times which result in the line getting really long. Same goes for Vortex. Yeah, it is forceful but if you know how to ride a stand up coaster and aren't very short, it is a blast. Short people may have a tougher go of it because of the restraints. Another very underrated ride IMO is Woodstock express. That is one of the most fun kiddie coasters on the planet. On a side note, you must have ridden Afterburn on a slowish day because I have ridden both Afterburn and Montu over 100 times and Afterburn's batwing is definitely more powerful but of course there is only one of them. I do actually agree with you in putting Alpengeist #1 though and you may be the only person other than my wife to agree with me, lol. #2 is Montu just because it is much longer than Afterburn. #3 is Afterburn. #4 gets tougher but it's probably Batman at SF Great America. I know a lot of people say the Batman in Atlanta but that is my second home park and I just don't see it personally. It's good but not as crazy as Chicago's Batman IMO.
Nighthawk didn't even have a train in the station when I was there on Thursday. Dissapointing because I've ridden Batwing and Firehawk, I agree that the flying duchman model is underrated and the remaining 2 are on borrowed time. I can understand why though, being that you don't want to run a supporting ride on borrowed time when it's just season pass holders coming in. Of the top 4 I'm a "Fury is #1, unsure how to rank the other 3" type. I also had a cool ride op on Wilderness Run who let me ride, I was one of the only people in the park (massive downpour in the morning) so rules like that weren't enforsed.
Swap Fury and Intimidator and we’ll have an identical list. My reasoning is because I hyped Fury up so much that it didn’t really meet my expectations. Also, I prefer inversions and airtime than just pure speed. To me it’s just overwhelming.
Your vid title is a little misleading since there are only 14. “Ranking Carowinds Coasters” might be better. That being said, Carowinds is my home park and I had a long gap between my two most recent visits (2009-2022). The Cobras has really come a long way since I first rode it in 2009 and I think even since your ride. Give it another try. I do respect your ratings on the kiddie coasters, but I will say that I experienced discomfort on Goldrusher because my knees bumped the seat back ahead of me. I love both Fury and Intimidator, but Carolina Cyclone is high up on my list as it was the first inverted coaster I ever rode. And as a proud fan of Nighthawk AND Vortex, thank you!
My list is pretty much similar to yours except I’d swap Vortex and Flying Cobras. I thought Flying Cobras was good when I rode it, especially on the return. As for Vortex, I think Georgia Scorcher has ruined stand ups for me because that ride is almost the perfect stand up coaster. In contrast I thought Vortex was actually lacking overall. Felt like it didn’t pack much of a punch. You had the first loop and then after that, the coaster just kind of nonchalantly makes it way through the layout.
I didn’t like vortex because my dumb butt set the position of me standing up I was on my knees and my head rattled only rattled on the corkscrew so it sits at the same spot for me
I do not mind the large scale stand ups or basically riddlers and green lantern but there is something about the small scale ones that makes that makes them run terribly,I mean people like like theme park crazy like stand ups but he hates vortex.
I was thinking of visiting this park and Dollywood on the same vacation. Only problem is that Charlotte is a little over 3 hours from Pigeon Forge and that's close enough for me but I am not sure about my parents though.

I find Fury to be overrated I rode it on July 15 and it was a little bumpy and hurt my head even without the bumpiness thought it was overhyped still an awesome ride but I rode I305 on July 25th and thought it was much better
Vortex was one of the worst coasters i ever rode. Idk which b&m coaster i hated more vortex or firebird. I guess ill get out i prefer copperhead over fury lol

Carowinds has a number of coasters that just need to be ripped out and replaced: Goldrusher, Vortex, Nighthawk, Cyclone, Hurler, Flying Cobras.
I experienced nothing of anything on Hurler and Vortex. so I’d love to see them go or get converted. Fury is literally a perfect coaster. My #5

Your vid title is a little misleading since there are only 14. “Ranking Carowinds Coasters” might be better.
That being said, Carowinds is my home park and I had a long gap between my two most recent visits (2009-2022).
The Cobras has really come a long way since I first rode it in 2009 and I think even since your ride. Give it another try.
I do respect your ratings on the kiddie coasters, but I will say that I experienced discomfort on Goldrusher because my knees bumped the seat back ahead of me.
I love both Fury and Intimidator, but Carolina Cyclone is high up on my list as it was the first inverted coaster I ever rode.
And as a proud fan of Nighthawk AND Vortex, thank you!
I feel like I have bad luck when it comes to this Park because both times I drove pass by Caroline’s, both times it was Closed. RIP

My list is pretty much similar to yours except I’d swap Vortex and Flying Cobras. I thought Flying Cobras was good when I rode it, especially on the return. As for Vortex, I think Georgia Scorcher has ruined stand ups for me because that ride is almost the perfect stand up coaster. In contrast I thought Vortex was actually lacking overall. Felt like it didn’t pack much of a punch. You had the first loop and then after that, the coaster just kind of nonchalantly makes it way through the layout.
Hot take… nighthawk>intimidator and afterburn.
I didn’t like vortex because my dumb butt set the position of me standing up I was on my knees and my head rattled only rattled on the corkscrew so it sits at the same spot for me
A disney character damaging the southeast? What more can you expect?
I do not mind the large scale stand ups or basically riddlers and green lantern but there is something about the small scale ones that makes that makes them run terribly,I mean people like like theme park crazy like stand ups but he hates vortex.
I don’t know what to say about that. In a sense I do feel the same way about Firebird though

I was thinking of visiting this park and Dollywood on the same vacation. Only problem is that Charlotte is a little over 3 hours from Pigeon Forge and that's close enough for me but I am not sure about my parents though.
Do both. Especially if you want to get a hotel in the middle, it cuts the drive in half. We stayed at Mountain Inn in Flat Rock, NC
@@CoasterDash My plan is to stay in Pigeon Forge for a few days to visit Dollywood, Dollywood's Splash Country, Soaky Mountain, Wilderness at the Smokies and a few other attractions across town and visit Charlotte for Carowinds and a few things to explore in town (not necessarily in that order).
Unless the Hurler has gotten better in the last almost 30 years, that thing will beat and bruise you badly!
Intimidator is just as good as Diamondback

I have been to Carolyn’s before and it is actually really fun I’ve been on this earth liner rhino cyclones and I’ve been on I’ve been on the Carolyn’s water Park in this actually really fun and really really funny show hey sometimes I also have got on the kitty hog in I’m at my daddy‘s house so whenever I’m at my daddy‘s house I go to caravans all the time and I might go with my aunt Ray Ray to is actually bye-bye
I find Fury to be overrated I rode it on July 15 and it was a little bumpy and hurt my head even without the bumpiness thought it was overhyped still an awesome ride but I rode I305 on July 25th and thought it was much better

Vortex was one of the worst coasters i ever rode. Idk which b&m coaster i hated more vortex or firebird. I guess ill get out i prefer copperhead over fury lol

Yeah, that’s until the crack happened on fury 325. Now it’s questionable about rather you should ride the rides at all.
So when you coming back to Carowinds to fight? Why tf is Vortex so high no why is Hurler so low? Hurler isn’t a great ride god no but it’s honestly 5 in the park for me
Copperhead is so overrated IMO. It’s fun, but it’s number 4 in the park for me. (Fury, intimidator, afterburn)

but i still like leviathan more, i think fury is a better ride i just like leviathan more because I have known it for longer so its kinda grown on me
