    Generally speaking, if it's a company like Keysight, they'll commission Rigol to make them a low end oscilloscope to fill out the product line to have which they resell at a higher price. Rigol then sells that model without the Keysight branding at a cheaper price (because people are buying Keysight for Keysight's name). When a no-name comes out and has something like this, it's usually because the parent company is discontinuing or has ended sales of the original product (likely for a better model). But all the engineering has been done, and if parts are still around, they'll just sell it to some other company who can make it cheaper and rebrand it knowing that the lifetime is limited and that company will just sell what they can. In the first case, it's because Keysight knows they can't design/build/ship a product that low end very economically, and in the latter case, well, it's so they don't have to support a product that has a limited life, but you can still sell a few of them. So Abestop basically buys all that Owon can produce or has parts for, but Owon stopped supporting, and sells what they can, knowing once Owon stops shipping them product, that's it. Basically Owon stopped supported the product, but you might as well use up the parts and such to convert it to cash. It's product lifecycle - the manufacturer wants to discontinue it, they still have parts and stock, so they get some other company to rebrand it and sell it to clear it out quickly.

      I'm reminded of the time years ago when I bought a ';dy' badged oscilloscope. It was an 'hp' scope from a military contract that got cancelled. So they had a bunch of the parts available to build them, but they didn't want to sell them and warranty them as HP scopes since they didn't fit into any of the company product lines. So they simply turned the hp logo upside down on the case and sold them as dy scopes. BTW, I know that sounds silly, but I'm not making that up. I used to work at HP's scope division and I did buy one of those scopes. It was from the tube era and it kept my shop warm with all of those tubes.

    This appears to be an OWON SDS1102 without the built-in AC supply. I wonder how easy it would be to swap the firmware for the OWON version? Add a big power bank and this becomes an ultimate cheap portable scope.

    Thanks so much for this. It's currently on sale for Prime Day at $99. I need one for calibrating cassette decks so this should suffice. Does it come with probes or any accessories other than the power cable? (Oh and if I do buy it I'll use your link. :)

    What cable are you using with that digital signal? If you use a terminated cable the overshoot may disappear. The scope looks great for a couple hundred. And a lot easier to carry than my old 465!

    Hi I just got a VEVOR 4 CHANNEL THAT IS THE SAME SCOPE WITH 4 CHANNELS I PAYED 148.00 WORKS UP TO 120MHZ I'M HAPPY WITH IT NO DECODER DOES HAVE FFT AND MATH ALSO USBTMC the only difference is it uses a standard 3 prong wall plug.

  • @ivolol
    @ivolol 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

    Would be nice to see:
    - Does it have any FFT?
    - Does it have any protocol decode?
    - Can it do math on two signals? (or, what is that Math button for)
    - Can it do statistics (hopefully yes), does it get all the important ones, are they somewhat accurate numbers compared to better scopes?
    - How good of a rise-time can it do at lowest horizontal scale?
    - How well can it capture a very small signal before it drops into the noise?
    All things that aren't essential, but help any budget scope differentiate itself from others if it does have them.

      On their product page on amazon it says that FFT is available, and I guess the rise time could be calculated from the bandwidth (3,5ns if it's exactly 100MHz)

      This is clearly a clone of the Mustool MDS2112P, which I own, and the Owon SDS2201... and assuming they didn't change anything significant from those models then yes, it does FFT (Hamming, Rectangle, Blackman, Hanning, Kaiser, Bartlett) in Vrms and dB. No protocol decoding. It does do math (+, -, *, /).
      My Mustool is surprisingly capable for the money.

  • @PhoenixRevealed
    @PhoenixRevealed 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    As you point out, this is clearly yet another rebadged clone of the Mustool MDS2112P and the Owon/Vevor SDS1102 (I own the former). The only difference I can see is the wall wart instead of an IEC power input on the Mustool and Owon/Vevor. Other than that the controls and case are identical.
    For the price the Mustool performs quite well, and so I assume the Abestop will do the same.

    I've been doing electronics since 1962 or so, and I think I'm *still* getting into the hobby. The one *new* scope feature that I'm looking for is protcol decoding, the ability to read serial data. I spend a lot of time working with microcontrollers these days and it would be a very handy feature to follow the commands and data packets moving around my circuits as I'm looking at the timing and quality of the waveforms. I find I spend far too much time trying to determine if my problem is software, or firmware, or hardware. So not having to set up a logic analyzer and specifying protocol decoding would really speed things up.

    USB power is better because if IMSAI Dog happens to chew on the power cord not much will happen.

    PS - We used to have a rabbit who loved to chew on power cords, telephone cords, etc. We had to give her back to the pet store before she electrocuted herself.

    A cool little scope with a nice big screen. There is nothing wrong with it being USB powered. There is effectively no difference between 120V and USB power since both plug into the wall outlet.

    5V 2A, well within the capacity of a lot of power banks, just wonder how robust the input circuitry is for use as a portable unit. Cable ties or self adhesive velcro, to hold the power bank to the back makes it portable.
