I have a S4... if you want to go german, go 335i... although unreliable, it will destroy S4s all day and night (remember, I own a S4 [no mods]), so I go by experience... I wish I had bought an 335 instead of my S4... HOWEVER... I take my S4 everywhere with michelin all season tires, on LIGHT snow or rain the S4 will eat the 335 with no sweats at all. Now, I dont recall accelerating against a 335iX (krep in mind I typed "X") on light rain, so I dont know about that. Best luck to you bro

I just hit play but I'm sure (from the thumbnail) a 335/135 is on the list. Yup fairly easy and cheap to make 500whp with a 335. DP(s), E blend, and tune if you are risky $1500 shipping included lol. FMIC, upgraded fuel lines/E sensor, index 12 injectors and coils if you're smart, $4,000 if you cant get a deal on injectors. Single intake (N55) or DCI (N54) for sound. They say the N54 is more mod friendly and the N55 is more reliable but it's really down to the plastic parts on both engines. Well then theres the N54 stock turbos' wategate rattle but replace the plastic inlets and chargepipes and I think you're right there at 500whp mostly reliably. It's been a while since I've been in the N54/55 world but they are potent with even just a tune. Turbo upgrade and you're golden.

I got a buddy with a 07 M5 with over 500hp stock I believe. I think he got it for less than 10k a few ago. Might be worth like 15k now because of how the prices have increased. The only downside on these is how heavy they are.

Just remember the person that bought the car new has already traded in the AMG they got to replace this one. The ones that can afford the car have mostly moved on. Also these cars hit 100k miles and die. At 90k my alternator and the radiator went. 100k is supposed to b the clutches and the camshafts. Who wants to replace clutch packs and camshafts every 100k miles? The Black Series low friction coating on the buckets is setting u back thousands of dollars just for the part. Stronger aftermarket clutch packs also insane prices. I’m at like 102k-103k miles and I’m trying to prepare for the 15k service I’m going to have to do any day now. That’s as much money as the engine out service every 4 years on my Ferrari
If you can find one you can build a sleeper truck from a 03-06 Chevy Silverado SS it all ready comes with a 6.0L LQ9 which is a slightly de-tuned LS plus it has 4wd that gives you plenty of traction
1500$$$ to get 500hp out of an n54 is BS! tbh it isnt.. BUT.. It will be unreliable if u don't maintain it well. If u want one then you should be ready to pay $5000 or more to make it reliable. I would not start tuning n54 before these all are checked: Injectors - I would want to make sure all my injectors are index 12 since they are the latest ones and make sure they don't leak. ignition coils - I would get new more powerful NGK "smart coils" from Audi R8 and mod them to fit n54. spark plugs - 1 or 2 step colder spark plugs from NGK. 1 step colder for less than 500 crank hp and 2 step colder for more than 500 crank hp water pump and thermostat - will fail at some point anyways. easy to change together. main drive belt seals and gaskets - you definitely don't want your car to leak oil when you're starting to modify it. replace oil pan gasket, valve cover gasket, oil filter housing gaskets and front and rear main seals. rear main seal is easy to change as you replace your clutch. front main seal should be done as you replace the main drive belt. high pressure fuel pump hoses vacuum lines vanos solenoids boost solenoids O2 sensors walnut blast ports to clean them and oil catch can is good to add to help keep them clean Turbos - you know your turbos are going bad when you hear the waste gates rattling. make sure to change your oil feed line o-rings as it is one place where this engine starts leaking too. You can do some of these as they go bad but these are common to fail in these engines and you need to be able to afford to replace these if u want an n54. it is just a part of basic BMW maintenance. I am tired to hear people saying the n54 is unreliable when most of the time people just can't afford to maintain it properly and then blame the engine.

Ok you missed one. The best bang for your buck by far is the foxbody Mustang. You can get them as cheap as 2500.00. 5k on mods gets that car in the low 12s on pump gas. I know, I've done it. Twice.

I had an Srt-4 back in the day. Had a S256 turbo best time 11.2 @ 127. Then it broke lol. Axels,transmission,knock sensors. 501hp489tq. My advice don't do slicks that will keep your car in the shop. Get drag radials and keep it at a roll. Just sayin.
The Audi S8, a sedan with the Lamborghini Gallardos 5.2L V10 comes stock with 450hp, or the Audi A8 with a 6.0L W12 comes stock with 450hp is what I'd choose as a cheap car.

The N54 335i is amazing until you have one sitting in your garage needing an engine rebuilt lmao. I’ve owned one for a year now. EXTREMELY tunable. EXTREMELY picky and utterly painful to maintain if you don’t have the money to throw at it

I bought a higher mileage e55 for 10.5k. Just did a smaller pulley , headers and 91 tune and it makes shy of 500 whp. Best hp for dollar
