My mom is an expert at this. Everything I’ve learned is from observing her draw kolams. This video was so so helpful. I’ve always thought that maa kolam lines need to be done in a hurry. Didn’t imagine it could be done in such a controlled way so as to get the right result. Thank you Akka 👻
It is always done quickly because the liquid also gets dry fast... obviously mine has slow motion shots to help you understand movement and grip, however, if you are too slow, you can’t control liquid flow... so :)
Simply awesome....amazing to see how fingers and rag can be used like this....needs lot of practice for this kind of coordination! Perfect slowmo!!! Will be waiting for more such videos. 😀😍
Hi Bargo , ur strokes in kolam r v. Firm & accurate . This also v. Imp. Point for anyone practicing kolam . Details r good & interesting . All the best ....
True Bhargavi....But you've got people into it And that....is a worthy effort. My mother used to draw beautiful kolams .She also used to put small kolams on the kitchen counter(medai) Can you expkain that please ?
What I have understood as the reasoning behind this ritual is combination of feeding ants and small beings on the kitchen and at the same time monitoring movement of small beings from the point of protection... everything about this tradition is a combination of gratitude and protection...
awww:) just watching you draw the kolam ...festival,weddings nyabagam varudhu:) nambo tradition is something to cherish forever:) beautiful Bhargavi....loved the video and the technique:) God bless you dear - Sarayu
The video was definitely useful. It would help the viewer to not lose attention span if you script down what you intend to say rather than come up with an organic explanation or abrupt clarifications. Moreover, all the coordination you refer to in the first 2-3 minutes anybody can gain only with practice. So that would become a part of muscle memory: would help if you pin the timestamp in the comments where you start explaining the real technique.

Very nice. What kind of cloth we have to use to put this kolam.
I've used a rag that was lying around my studio... any cotton based rag works.

Incredible 😍
Thank you :)
Does the surface always have to be a smooth one for ma kolam ?
It would be harder to draw on a rough surface ma.. its a practical difficulty more than anything else.
