Recently purchased a Pedego Ridge Runner and could not possibly be happier. Did hack the software and now have top speed of 28mph. Solid components, smooth motor engagement and awesome battery life. Rode 35 miles today in pedal assist mode and had 47% battery remaining. Most importantly, bought from a great dealer in Juno Beach FL who has parts inventory and detailed knowledge of the brand.

I am looking at Pedego mainly because of local dealer support. But the price point seems way higher than most online ebikes for similar components. Love to hear his opinion on if if they are worth it or overpriced.

Converted my old bike with a 1500 watt hub motor, spent less than 500 for the conversion and it will go 30 mph (gps verified cause the speedo that it came with is way off). Great for a person like me that had knee injuries, thinking I would never bike again... This channel is what got me into it! Keep it up!

      niceee
been thinking and planning... a lot for a conversion (small problem is i dont have a bike to convert currently XD)
but may i ask how u got a 1500w hub motor and a battery for sub 500 (i guess usd).
also can i ask for a name or link for the motor and what battery u built? (cells and parallel X in_series)??

@@pasmas3217 prices are up a little bit right now, but I got the voilamart 1500 watt kit for $195.00 USD (it's now $235) on eBay. And a 48v 20ah battery (LiFePo4 so it's 16s1p, gonna replace it) from eBay for $280 USD (now going for $330).
I had wire and stuff laying around to hook it up and a circuit breaker already for a fuse, but they are only a couple bucks anyways.
I'm going to build either a 16s2p or 16s3p LiFePo4 battery out of 32700 liitokala cells this winter. Either be 14 ah or 21 ah depending on which way I go with it.

@@chrisnmichelle0218 very niceee (except the baterry is too small for me...
in my planning i am thinkint of 16s-4p which is my main price killer...
otherwise i was looking at some motors from ebay for about 180$ for 1000w, but it was just the hub, without the spokes or the wheel (which i dont want to take up as a job too...). i am gonna give a look to the motor u used, but if i can swing a sub 1000€ for the entire 1500w ebike with a 4p battery i will be very happy (consider i have to buy a bike for the conversion too...)
*welp, cant find a single motor that will ship to europe (like the one u used...)
my problem is i dont feel like trusting a kit from china... to pay for it 200$+ and wait over a month to receive...
**anyway, how happy are u from the motor specifically?
if u dont mind how heavy are u, since i am around 210pounds? (not that it should be a probblem with 1500w)
and do u ride it only on throttle/pedal_assist???
      thanks for the anwers mate

@@pasmas3217 I'm the same weight as you, which is why I got the motor I did. Keep in mind, all the motors are basically the same, I've had good luck recently using AliExpress. My kit came with all the accessories, but I took the PAS sensor off cause I didn't like the way it controlled the bike, I like the control myself. So I pedal and just use throttle when I need some help. I have taken to using throttle on takeoff so I don't have to change gears ever. I usually cruise around 16 to 20 mph, and lightly throttle while pedaling if I need some help, usually shows around 100 to 300 watts when I do that.
About the battery, keep in mind that the cells make a difference as one of the 32700 cells is like two or three 18650 liion batteries. The specs on the battery are 7ah with continuous 30/35 amp discharge. So a 2p would be 14ah with a continuous discharge of 60 amps. 3p would be 21ah and continuous discharge of 90 amps. A 3p for the 32700 batteries would be like a 6p of the 18650 batteries. I got Micha's book, it is really helpful in the planning of the battery.
And like I said, honestly, the eBay sellers are selling the same things that you can get on AliExpress, just quicker shipping time. The items most likely all come from the same factory there. I am getting all of my cells through AliExpress (Liitokala cells). Not too worried, enough ebike videos reference buying from there, even Micha on this channel.

Hate to say it, but the solution to nearly every one of these questions is DIY. I’d encourage everyone to give it a shot, I’m glad I did. I’d recommend the Bafang BBSHD for your motor. This is because it includes the controller which means all of the most difficult wiring is already done for you. Paired with a simple 52v frame mount battery and it will run you around $1k. This is the setup I used for my first build and believe it or not, it only took me 30 minutes to build! There is an abundance of assembly guides on TH-cam. Definitely a cost effective way to get an e bike. $1,000 + the potential cost of a base bike will get you 35mph, 1500W, and plenty of range!

No one ever mentions one of the most under rated brands : Nireeka. I ordered the nireeka Prime and it has a bafang ultra mid drive , carbon fiber frame, fat tires, and available front fork suspension and throttle. Starts at $2500 too. Please consider mentioning this bike. It deserves the recognition. Just go look at the promo video of the bike. It’s super sexy

@Chris H, that price is a bit more then a lot of people are willing to pay for an ebike. For an example, my mom would not even pay $1,500 for an ebike much less that of a $1,000 dollars for an ebike. That could be why no one mentions the Nireeka Prime, it could also be that it does not fit a lot of people's riding style. I have an etrike conversion that cost me just about $500 to build, and there are a lot that would not even pay that as they want one of those $199 Walmart specials.

Bafang bbshd is one of the best options for a cheap but powerful and cost effective bike, the main problem is you either need to be able to make the conversion yourself, or have a friend who can do it for you. I put the bbs02 on my cheap road bike that I’m used to and it rides like a dream. If you want to make a cheap ebike, converting an old bike with one of these kits is a great choice and allows for you to customize the bike to be what ever you want it to be. If you have an old bike lying around and a little bit of mechanical ability you can make a 1000w bike with a little bit of TH-cam and persistence. My total cost was my 3 year old bike that was 400$ ( no extra cost, I already had it), 500$ for the kit (around 10 screen and controller options on Amazon) , 280$ for the battery and about 2 hours of work to get it going. The limiter is 60 mph and the only limitation is my bike because it isn’t good enough for the kit (bike vibrates above 35 mph so I haven’t taken it above 40mph). Overall converting a old bike with bafang kits are amazing and you could get a bike that suits you without worrying about the electrics being included. (You can limit the power and speed to what ever you want it to be with the c18 controller so regulations and laws aren’t a problem)

Get a kit off Amazon or AliExpress and install it on your own frame. This way you can get the power/range combo of your choice at an affordable price... and you'll learn a lot about it in the process. Worried that its "too hard" to do? It isn't that big of a challenge, actually, but I suppose it helps to be inclined toward this type of fun project. (I guess I'm biased that way 🙄😊)

Micah, I’m switching the original controller out of my Super73 Z1 for one that can handle PAS. I’m looking at a 48V controller, so I know it would be able to “pull” the amp. But would it also give me a little more speed or duration?
Following Brian D. Howard’s videos, I’ve already hacked the speed (cutting the white wire) and I avg about 25mph, top speed 36mph. I also added a 2nd battery (36V 20ah) that now is my “main” because - you don’t know what u don’t know🤷🏾‍♂️ - the original Z1 battery is pretty anemic for all day biking at 36V 11.4ah. Night and day difference.
Hope my question isn’t too confusing, thanks...and when I’m gon’ get my free book. I need DIY Lithium Batteries.

Hi. I bought your book last week and read it cover to cover and it was great. I also watched a bunch of your videos which are awesome. I would love it if you would do a session on how to choose an 18650 battery that covers issues aside from the brand name, capacity, max continuous discharge and cost. For example, I am trying to choose between the Samsung INR-18650 30A and LG D1. Each are rated at 3000 mAh, max continuous discharge of 6.0 and 5.8 respectively (which gives me > than the 10A I need in a 5S2P configuration), and 3.7V, but the former is $2.18 in quantity and the latter $2.30. How does one choose? Is there any reason not to choose the less expensive cell? I see a similar issue with other batteries with almost the same specs but different prices. Does it have something to do with looking at the voltage graphs and seeing which drops more and/or something else? I don't see this topic of choosing batteries other than the very basics, which is quite easy to base a choice on, discussed anywhere.

So I know they are 12v but if I take say a milwaukee 12v battery to use... as it looses power I'm guessing the voltage drops and it will not run the 12v flashers as it goes below the 12v's.....correct? so what kind of small battery can I use that will last a 12 hour bike ride for 4 flashers. I guess they are around 10-20 watts each. I need a battery that is rechargeable and IM GUESSING it would have to be regulated to 12v even as it drains? Does this exist? And help would be GREATLY APPRECIATED

Which would you used for the style bike I have? Thanks

One bike on my watch list that I haven't seen much of yet is the Espin Nero for fat tires and utility, but more "bike-like" than something like the Lectric XP. The early bird pricing looks tempting, but with all of this coof business I'm probably not going to need a bike for 6+ months at this rate, so I'm probably not buying anything anytime soon.
I suppose the nice thing about waiting is that the e-bikes just keep getting better and more affordable.

Will you ever build an Ebike battery pack with the 2170 cells? What is your opinion on them? I am trying to build a battery pack for an Emoto enduro bike and I'm trying to figure out the best cells to use. Thanks!

Hi micah! i hope you are doing well, just wanted to ask if there is any other way that you can power an ebike aside from battery, like a hub generator or a dynamo or something? that way you won't need a battery anymore right? is that possible?

    Hi
You are doing a perfect job on ebikes, best youtube I know.
My question is as follows: ebike are becoming increasingly powerful sometimes exceeding their mechanical counterparts. What kind of helmet(s) and protection wear would you recommend when using a ebike for both commuter and recreational sports.
    Thanks in advance.

Hi, What are the pros and cons of having a 2 hub motors X 1 hub motor? Say 2x 500W versus a 1x 1000W? Or anything else but splitting power among 2 hubs instead of concentrating it in one hub?

I want a folding e bike that is light weight and good for city commuting that I can throw in my car and go and do some light to mid nature trails outside of town. If the tern vektron came with front suspension forks it would be perfect.

yeah, Im busy motorizing all of the bikes in the garage. At the end, Ill sell all of them cheap and build the bike of my dream. So far ive built a 1000w(48v) direct drive and a 750w (52v) mid drive. Next, I think ill try a 500w geared hub.

What's up man i had a question, I've built 3 ebikes now (mostly thanks to you) but a problem I run into now that I'm riding more powerful bikes is that both my current bikes (48v 1000w direct drive, and a bbshd 48v 1000) have 7 speed freewheels on them which I don't have a problem but when I get going fast I have 0 resistance in the pedals...I tried to find a freewheel with less teeth for the high gear but what do you recommend for me to still be able to pedal (at least a little) at the higher speeds

I just ordered a Voltbike 750 limited 2020. What do you think of these bikes?
It's got a hard tail but has front suspension.
Do you have a recommendation for a softer saddle or go with a suspension seat post?
    Thanks
And I love your videos. Keep up the good work!
