it's such a simple comment: "make shorter punches" = use less metal. It extrapolates out to: make more punches using the same (original) amount of metal "Make tongs for punches": one handle rules them all. Less material/time/$$$ used. Very efficient and great concept. Thanks for the vids Glen!
Great craftsmanship! I am very impressed with your skill. Both my grandfathers did 'farm' blacksmithing neither would teach me saying it was pointless 'the world really didn't need blacksmith any more - work smart not hard.' I would watch them they never did anything big just farm repairs and sharpening mostly.
Go back a few decades and most folks would say the same as your grandfathers. No one at that time probably imagine the renaissance the craft has experienced through "artist" blacksmiths. Most farms back in the day had at least a small, portable forge for repairs. Thanks for sharing.
After fighting various punches, I found that putting a handle on every single one, like your rivet header @ 8:30 , to be the best for less fumbling when the time comes to gitr done. Will also give you an excuse to make a pegged rack for hanging them in plain view and avoiding another box of tooling that you have to dig through every time a particular one is needed. 🧙♂️
I used to do the same for all my punches - give them permanent handles. I've gotten away from that but with me, I always revisit what I was doing in the past at some point. Thanks Stan.
Nice Glen, good fitting tongs are like great shoes, so comfortable you prefer not to wear anything else! Looking forward to my hammer, expect it early next week, thanks mate, be in touch when it arrives!
I have watched many MANY tongs being made on TH-cam and you sir hands down make the very best and stylish tongs. You have a real talent and I love the color of your finished product with the brush off very nice.I would really like to own a couple of different styles how would I get them.Iam in the U.S
I am in Australia and have a few of Glens tongs and a hammer on the way! Not hard, email him and order, sort out what you want, settle on a price, pay the man and check your mailbox! Its that easy! Superb work with just a little bit of kinkiness thrown in to make others look and ask what and where! Love my tongs, chomping the bit waiting for the hammer!
I'm working on more short punches / drifts and this tong is getting a lot of use. I honestly don't love using a tong for this sort of eye forming but it has really helped cut down on the noise and I'm really liking the shortness of these punches. Thanks.
The similarity in music might be because it's free audio on i-movie. Could be exactly the same... I will check that channel out. And I might change up my music. Thanks.
@@gstongs I'm not crying about anything it's just an observation✌😁 I do think you will like that channel. He fixes rebuilds and replicates old buggy and wagons.
I didn't care for your socks so here's a pair I feel fit you best: " Legendary Blacksmith Are Born In June Gift Blacksmith ." I would've gifted them to you, but couldn't find an email. (JF)

Sometimes thinking simply is best. I am in the process of making a full set of short punches / drifts. Thanks my friend.
Such a beautiful and functional set of new tongs. 👍👍😎👍👍
This pair has been getting a lot of use. Thanks.

Very nice! Said it once and I'll say it again. You have the best fit and finish!
Very happy to hear you say that again. Not sure it's true but feel free to say it a third time if you want! Thanks.

every video yuo make are very interesting i learn a lot whith yuor video tancks glen sorry for my bad english
Never apologise for bad english. The only ones that complain are the ones that struggle with one language, you can speak at least two.
Your English is fine. Very glad you can learn anything from watching my channel. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.
Well said. Thanks.
Nice job on both the short punch and the tongs. Thanks Glen.
I'm working on more short punches / drifts. And the tong is seeing a lot of use. Thanks.
Beautiful pair of tongs, as usual!
This pair is getting a lot of use. I'm working on more short punches / drifts. Thanks.
Of all the trinkets I've made, I've never even attempted to make a set of tongs. You make it look easy, which I'm sure it's not.
I've made so many tongs that it's the one thing I don't need to think too much when doing. But for everything else, I'm lost! Thanks.
Very tidy clean design. Loved watching👍
I appreciate your kind comment. Thanks for watching.
Nice Glen, good fitting tongs are like great shoes, so comfortable you prefer not to wear anything else! Looking forward to my hammer, expect it early next week, thanks mate, be in touch when it arrives!
For what I need, this tong is working very well. I hope the hammer works similarly for you. Big thanks.
Great work mate
Thanks for sure.
@Glen GS Tongs The hex hammer you made for me is the shop favorite.
I'm very happy to hear that. And I appreciate you making that known in the comments as word of mouth drives business. Thanks Tim.

As Paul said, you can email me if interested in tongs, etc. - glen03@earthlink.net
I really appreciate your kind words. Thanks.
I appreciate your recommendation and very kind comment. Not to mention the business you've given me. Thanks Paul.
I like the style brotha!! Simple yet shall I say ....elegant ;-)
Nice. Great video as always Glen. Thanks for sharing.
It's always my pleasure to have you watching. Thanks Tony.
what incredible your habilities - congrats
I've made more than a few tongs and so have developed certain repeating habits. Thanks for watching.
I like the simplicity of the tongs. I just made a stubby hot cut that looks similar to your punch. Maybe I should try tongs instead of a handle

The hot shear we received works really well, so ya if anyone thinking about one. My daughter even enjoys using it because its easy to use.
Hi Jim, That's really good to know. I'm surprised your daughter also uses it but that's wonderful and good for me to promote this item. Thanks.
The ending music sounded exactly like Engels coach shop channel. That's an interesting channel as well and does have some blacksmithing involved.✌

Short and thick does the trick eh? LOL Nice. I might just have to see if I can pick up one of those hex hammers!
I thought someone might pick up on that wise crack - good on you. Thanks for sure.
Seu trabalho é magnífico ....👏👏👏🤘🤘🤘🤘🍻🍻🍻
Thanks for watching and for your kind comment.
Well done Glen!
Would a tong clip be good to use when using a set of tongs like this?
I personally don't like using a tong clip but many others do. Thanks for watching.
Didn't even notice the piece of wood until you mentioned it. Was too busy following what you were doing.
It's easy to overlook stuff when you're concentrating on one thing. Thanks for watching.
nice tongs
Thanks Jon
awesome
Thanks for watching.
More vids 😊😊😊😊
I'll do my best. Thanks for watching.
hey GLEN you mention your website but there is no link to it here ?
I didn't care for your socks so here's a pair I feel fit you best: " Legendary Blacksmith Are Born In June Gift Blacksmith ." I would've gifted them to you, but couldn't find an email. (JF)
Those sound like some pair of socks. Blow my run-of-the-mill socks out of the water. Thanks for sharing that.
