I feel similar to you on this movie. I enjoy the fights, Robert Englund, some of the score, the look of the movie. But I also don't care about the characters, and Jason could've been handled way better. I also remember being disappointed that Freddy didn't kill much people compare to Jason. I'd say I like it but it could've been a lot better. I think they should have gotten a different director. It would have been interesting if they got someone who directed one of the previous films like Renny Harlin.
i saw freddys dead and new nightmare in the theatre matt~ my brother got a nightmare after new nightmare lol~ he was 3 when new nightmare came out! i remember the scene where he comes out the closet and says miss me?everyone jumped like holy shit lol!

Despite the bad cast and characters and Jason being afraid of water, I still enjoy this film and never did and still don’t get the hate the film gets nowadays especially from the guys from the sausage factory. You’re right it could of been a lot worse and the reason why I don’t get why some people might hate this film is despite its minor flaws, the film delivers on the title of the movie and you get it, we get Freddy vs Jason. Their fight, the blood and the way the action scenes are filmed are well done. We got Freddy vs Jason and another great performance by Robert England so fans of both franchises I don’t know what more they want IMO.

Oh I'm with you on that matt, it definitely feels more like a elm street movie than friday the 13th. Other than the beginning and the end, the whole damn movie takes place in springwood, every character in the movie is from springwood haha it's so obvious what new line was doing. They didn't even try to hide it. I look at this film as, nightmare on elm street part 8 featuring Jason, it's the only way I can take it seriously. It's not a true crossover film.

Well over the years this has gone below on each of my rankings of Nightmare and Friday movies. Mainly because of the characters and actors are just horrible the worst of each franchise, and they get kane hodder with a better look. Take away Jason’s fear of water, that was just plain stupid, I don’t mind him getting roughed on by freddy in the real world I mean he is an unstoppable killer, but give freddy a hard time killing jason. give freddy a few more kills. I think with those changes I would’ve had this as one of my top horror movies. The plot is fine by me btw.
Watched for the first time last night. Hated it. Supposedly this was shot on film, but it looks very video. The tone is just so far off, looks like a SNL digital short spoof.
So in my opinion I love the way these guys had to face off against each other it made sense . I disagree this is a great cast I mean in New blood I hate those characters so boring , stupid , and basic unlike here I enjoy Will , Laurie and Mark I enjoy the little bit of humor I really like the guy that played jason I mean I wouldn’t have minded if Kane Hodder played him but I didn’t mind it . I love The fight scenes between Freddy and Jason because if I was paying to see two legendary horror icons face off this is exactly what I’d want to see a WWE match between Freddy and Jason . Great gore , A shitload of practical blood , violence through the roof , great kills , Great performance by Robert Englund , love the opening and song . So all around I love this movie to death

That isn't a coincidence. The characters are not just bad, but boring, dull, and just horrible. Horrible dialog, HORRIBLE ACTING. The acting is PAINFUL. I can't STAND the acting in this movie. I can't STAND Ritter or his friend or the final girl. Just HORRIBLE HORRIBLE characters, dialog, and acting. At least Friday 8 and Nightmare 5 and Freddy's dead didn't have such painful acting. I wanted to PUNCH Ritter through out the entire film. Him the most, every other character I wanted to punch. The kills are EXAGGERATED and cartoonish. Jason isn't Jason. This is a Freddy vs some guy pretending to be Jason. The story/plot is boring. The "I saw your dad kill your father" "Dad, you killed mom"? IT WAS SO OBVIOUSLY FREDDY!!!!! Yet it's acting as though it's a mystery, and it's completely pointless and boring and does nothing for the story. Freddy only kills ONE SINGLE PERSON. An incredibly boring kill. His brother is Freddy in a bathtub which can be disturbing and gory and serious, but it's not serious at all. CGI things impale through his feet and he's slashed in the face which we only see in the real world. These are the ONLY things I like about Freddy vs Jason. 1. Robert England as Freddy. 2. The bed crush kill. 3. Jason being impaled by those giant rebars. 4. Robert England saying "Why won't you die?!" That was a good line. That is literally it. I rather watch Friday 8. It's a bad movie, but it's kind of fun. Same with Nightmare 5. This movie...it's not even fun. It's just a bad movie. Now could it of been a better film? Who knows? it all depends on who was at fault for multiple faults in the film. Would casting Kane as Jason would of really made up for everything else terrible about this movie? Who is responsible for the TERRIBLE acting? It would of had the same terrible boring plot and characters. We would of definitely still gotten a fake Jason Mewes and Britney Murphy clones because "they are really popular right now. Like Busta Rhyms." Newline would of forced that in regardless of the writers, actors and actresses, and or the director. As I said, it's a product of it's time and place and it shows. I honestly think we might of maybe gotten less bad acting since the director might of picked different actors and actresses but who really knows? Once again, what made them pick those actors? I would have included Tommy Jarvis as one of the main characters and possibly Alice Johnson or Jesse Walsh (or both), to tie things together better.
