    Love my Fordson Major, very stout tractor and great for many many tasks even today.

    My Fordson was made in January 1956 at Dagenham, she is just a plain Fordson Major Diesel, but she is a wonderful machine, she was left abandoned in the hedge up at the cricket pitch, 12 years ago I asked someone who she belonged to and after I found out it was the groundsman I offered him £700 in cash. I charged the battery bled the diesel pump and she started straight away! I currently have her in bits, doing some minor repairs.

    The first tractor we had on our farm was a fordson power major, it's still here but in a very sad state but it is on the restoration list

    I got a later modell Super Major with a Selene 4WD conversion and the extra creeper box. That thing is a beast at pulling stuff

    This tractor was known as the Roadless Major in the UK & Europe, in this case, the Power major, it was more than 40hp, you forgot to add, although the front differential casting has the Roadless name on it, its actually a GM from the states, they came off USA army trucks, imported into Italy to start with.

    The front wheel assist is called “Manuel-roadless transformazone”. It was made from army surplus front axle 6x6 gmc trucks.
    The one featured here is the second generation called the power major; which featured increased horsepower over the new major. Then the super major and last of the series.

    Fifty years ago I found one but the gear running the front axel was broken and I did not have the skill or time to work on it so I passed on buying it.

    What is the difference between a fordson a Ford red belly/blue belly and
    Massie Harris. They all look similar.
    My great grandad had a 57 blue belly Ford.

    Drove a 4wd Major, very heavy steering and extremely poor turn radius. It was for sale but a short trip was enough to convince me it was useless both on the field and around the yard.

      The one in the video has power steering. Did yours ? The lack of steering lock is down to the universasl joints on the front half shafts.

    That's a 4wd tractor..not 'front wheel assist'. Where do they come up with these names??

    • @millomweb

      I've commented on this. When going backwards, is it 'rear wheel assist' ? FFS !

    Get your facts straight the diesel doesn't make it rare. I have one sitting in my yard.
    Never saw one that wasn't diesel.
    They are not that rare here.
    The roadless conversion may be
    But not the diesel.
    It has a Perkins built engine. I have a Dexta also .these were some of the best tractors ever built in my opinion. My Major will do twice the work on half the fuel of your precious John Deere and IH y'all seem to be so proud of

      @jennyweitzel4458 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I kinda think they meant the diesel engine paired with the 4 wheel drive was rare but I'm not 100% sure, so don't quote me on that.

    • @mathewmerkl576
      @mathewmerkl576 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The diesels are super common gas majors are kinda rare and the majors had nothing to do with perkins it was strictly a ford designed engine the dexta had a ford-perkins engine

    Not really correct - a 4wd major was never offered by Fordson but many conversions were offered ( 4wd, Tracks, rowcrop etc. ) by outside converters. Ironically the front axle is actually American as these were sourced from ex WW2 GMC trucks until Roadless developed their own.

      @chevyon37s 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@levicole1532 I’m aware this is a 50’s tractor, and I’m not digging on it for being bad or not able to work. But with the HP rating for it, it just doesn’t stand as a muscle tractor for the time. At least for me especially when you consider the Deere 720/30 820/30 models, Case 900B, Farmall 460, etc all had more HP. And some of those like the Deere 820/ 830 having 50% more horsepower than the Fordson.

      @@chevyon37s You would be surprised at what a Fordson power major can do ,of all the tractors you named and after having had AC IH John Deere and Fords. Of the tractors you listed I would take a Fordson Power Major over any of them.But I would like a 2 stage clutch.

    What's with the expression 'front wheel assist' ? It's 4WD end of.
    I guess if you drive it backwards, it becomes 'rear wheel assist' !!!!
