So for a Muslim, converting to Christianity is an illogical step back knowing that Christianity as it is now is deformed from the original message in their point of view. In islam as well there are different doctrines and many people have there own interpretation. But at the end the real difference between a Muslim and a Christian is just that Christians do not want to acknowledge the fact that Mohammed is the prophet of God. If a Christian Catholic doesn't believe anymore that Jesus is son of God (because God does not have sons for Muslims) and that Mohammed is God's messenger, technically he is a Muslim at heart. You're a Muslim if you believe there is a unique God (which Jews and Christians believe) and that Mohammed is his messenger. The rest comes after... Nowadays people are more like "agnostic Christians" or "agnostic Muslims" though, open to possibilities.
