    Some of this doesn't line-up with testing done by other labs. ZeroWater had their filter tested by an EPA certified lab and it showed that the filter removed 99% of fluoride. Other people have tested it as well and found it removed fluoride. I find it rather ridiculous that this test showed Brita had a 100% reduction. Brita is a carbon filter and carbon filters do not remove fluoride.

    • @Freshnss
      @Freshnss  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Hey John - Thanks for your input! That’s why we did our own independent tests at EPA certified laboratories, to see how each performed. And to be clear, the Brita uses a carbon and ion exchange resin. You can look at all the data from each test we have posted in the description. 😊

      @childofeternity ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @@Freshnss As someone else wrote, it seems to me there must have been a mix up with the samples. The carbon filter of the Brita wouldn't be able to remove anywhere near that level of flouride (if any), and Zero Water to have removed none just doesn't fit with other testing.

    • @Freshnss
      @Freshnss  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @childofeternity Hey there! Thanks for watching. There was no mix up with the samples, that is what the lab results returned. It would be possible for those results to occur. Although if you did want a filter for fluoride, the Clearly Filtered performed the best across the board 👍

    At the end of the video, it shows you taking samples from the running faucets. To ensure you have the same sample for all pitchers and the test sample, you should have filled up a 5 gallon bucket, and taken your base sample from the bucket, then poured the water from the bucket into each pitcher. Difference in run time on the faucet could impact how much contaminant is in each filter. Another vlogger (using Tap Score) had different results with 9 pitchers, but he did not have the Clearly Filtered brand. His test found Waterdrop (93) to be best, with Epic Water (89) and Aqua Crest (88) coming in 2nd and 3rd. Zerowater (71) came in 8th. Makes you wonder if a person's location and specific issues with their municipal water will require each individual to buy multiple pitchers to find out which one works best for their own water.

    • @Freshnss
      @Freshnss  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You are absolutely correct. The way you just described is how we are already planning to do future testing. We will also use distilled water for the initial flush. The way NSF tests is they will go to 2x times the rated capacity and they have spiked water to ensure consistent contaminants. It's not feasible to do at the TH-cam scale unfortunately as they get paid thousands of dollars to run those tests. We're trying to at least get some good data but there will be inconsistency between locations.

    One result that is doubtful is the water hardness test. While clearly filtered does remove some hardness it does not get rid of it. For example I have 250 with my city water but it only reduce it to 200. Water hardness does not determine whether the water is good or not because calcium is not harmful but I wonder how it says it removed 99% of hardness.

    GOOD TO KNOW FRESHNSS......I LIVED in Savage Mn for a number of years and my daughter lived in Bloomington. We bought the ZERO ONE because it was affordable for us. When we tested the water in Savage with a TDS meter the TDS was UP TO 400 PPM. That shortens life of filters. My daughters water in Bloomington was testing as 150 PPM. Many times I filled jugs with water from Bloomington and use that water in my filters to prolong use. It's amazing the things we have to do to consume clean water. :-( We now live in Florida. Water here seems to be testing MUCH cleaner than Minnesota.

    As you stated all waters from around the country will test differently. What I find interesting is that on your video and another video the WaterDrop filter showed zero filtering of Fluoride, like exactly zero on two different videos, the common point here is both used Tap Score Testing. When I looked at Tap Score to sample test City Water they charge $160 I was like no thank you, ridiculously over priced. I could not imagine you paying $800 out of your money to run this video survey. Plus I agree that the Clearly Filter is superior at what it does, it comes at a premium as far as cost, which I thought would have been nice for you to talk about in the video. Based on another water filter system review I had purchased a WaterDrop Countertop unit and have been very happy with the quality and design of the water system. • @keithfillinger3182
      @keithfillinger3182 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You should write a review on the company's website. I bought an undersink filter system from them. They claimed it reduced flouride. I tested my water with test papers, and my flouride levels were consistent with tap water for flouride. Anyway, the company modified one of their filters in the system I have. It now removes 100% of the flouride. The company seems to be very responsive to customer input.

    • @Freshnss
      @Freshnss  ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting! Thanks for sharing about the under sink filter. Glad it is working well!
      I would just say that using paper test strips are not too accurate, and if the claim is that it “reduces” fluoride, the filter could be reducing it but a test strip is not ideal to measure it. You could be talking about the difference of a fraction of an mg/L.

    • @keithfillinger3182
      @keithfillinger3182 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Freshnss I am well aware that a lab test is far more accurate than what papers ever could be. I work as a firefighter and am also a Haz-Mat technician. I have a pretty good background in chemistry and testing methods. With that said, I went to the Environmental Water Group's (EWG) website to see what was reported to be in my water. That is how I chose/modified my filter system. Anyway, I bought Waterdrop's TSA 3 system. It is a three filter system that connects inline to my faucet. My city has insanely high water pressure (about 90 psi), whereas most cities are probably 45-60 psi. This allowed me to switch two of the filters in my system out. I got rid of the first and last filters in my stock system. Waterdrop makes a couple of stand-alone filters that fit my system (RF-10 and RF-10 UF). I installed an RF 10 in place of my first filter and an RF-10 UF in place of the last filter. I made that change for a couple of reasons. It slows the water down through my filter system. My water now flows through around a gallon per minute (rated flow rate @ 60 psi), which gives my water more time with the filter media. Second, my water has low levels of PFAS in it. I have three carbon filters in series (2 carbon blocks and a granular activated carbon with an anion exchange for flouride removal). I am going by faith as TAP Score's PFAS test is very expensive and only tests for about 12 out of the 4000 PFAS.
      I feel comfortable my system can remove a vast majority of the stuff from my water. Based on my research, carbon filters are a great filter media for a lot of these chemicals and emerging toxins. I also believe the anion resin helps remove PFAS, and I read that the ultrafiltration media in my UF filter should remove large chain PFAS as well.
      The main thing is to know what is in your water. Second, buy a filter to remove the contaminants you want removed. The only contaminant my filter system did not reduce a whole lot was chromium. However, my water was about 0.6 part per billion from the EWG website, and that seemed about what my test paper showed. That definitely was not a definitive test, but it seemed fairly consistent with what was claimed by the EWG. So, I will take that. It is the only contaminant my system did not address, and that is higher than the EWG's recommended levels.
      My water tested negative for several nasty chemicals. All of these were not found in my water:
      Copper
      Flouride
      Chlorine
      Mercury
      Cyanuric Acid
      Nitrates
      Nitrates
      Bromine
      Carbonate Root
      Note: The only media in this system that can remove nitrates and nitrites is the anion resin for flouride removal, which is why I believe that can also assist in removing negatively charged PFAS. I saw a review online where a person stated he had insanely high nitrate levels (40 ppm) in his water, and the stock system brought it down to 0 ppm. If his system does that for awhile, the resin has a large capacity.

    • @Freshnss

    • @Freshnss
      @Freshnss  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hey there! That’s why we sent the water to an independent certified laboratory to test and analyze 109 different factors🧪 And we put links to all the test results and data for you to look through if you want.
      A lot of stuff including information on websites is marketing, that’s why we did what we did. A perfect example is Berkey filters making those kind of claims and now they are getting sued because another large scale independent lab test showed otherwise.
      Thanks for the comment though. It’s good to be skeptical with water filtration claims. We did the best we could for the most accurate results and try to provide all the data transparently for everyone to see. Hopefully it helps!

    • @27kjh
      @27kjh 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@Freshnss that’s interesting but it still brings up questions. Does it really all come down to marketing? I can see it being good marketing for Zero Water claiming it removes Fluoride when it doesn’t. Although with Brita why would they claim it doesn’t remove it when your test show it does. As well other Videos I’ve watched also send their water to an independent certified lab and their results are quite different than yours. Also I would think there would be more testing and regulations in place before they make their claims about their filter’s. The verdict isn’t out yet about Berkey filters…there’s always two sides to a story and I’ve been reading information coming from both sides. I found it curious that some of the information about their filters being faulty were coming from other water filter companies…we all know what Social Media can do when it gets a hold of something. It’s hard to know what to believe. I guess the only way to be sure would be to do our own tests.

    • @Freshnss
      @Freshnss  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You bring up a lot of great points. Like I mentioned in the video, this is one test from one location in Minnesota. There is definitely a lot of noise around filter claims and certifications. That’s the main reason we set out to do this test, was to at least provide some transparency with independent testing and putting all the results out there. Out of curiosity, have you tested your water to know exactly what’s in it? (I’m assuming Fluoride and other city water contaminants). But that will also help guide your choice. We now use the Clearly Filtered after the test results and can’t complain.
      Thanks for the good discussion! I love it 👍

    • @Freshnss
      @Freshnss  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Excellent questions! Mineral consumption is largely through a balanced diet and food. So while you are correct that some of these minerals have health benefits, it is preferable to have purified water and you can remineralize it if you so desire, with mineral drops or other methods.
      For your second question, you are asking about filtering water through a pitcher, and then filtering it again through a second pitcher?
      Your question on micro plastics is a good one. These pitchers use BPA free construction. Also, the Clearly Filtered for example, uses medical grade Triton material with won’t leach microsolastic compounds into the drinking water.

      @@Freshnss After I saw this, I saw another video where someone did a similar comparison. But the tap water didn't contain lead. As a result, Brita and Pur came out ahead of Zero Water. I wanted to tell everyone to watch this video, but I didn't want to be rude. 😁 At the same time, it did show the importance of focusing on what exactly it is you want or need filtered. But lead is pretty important! So yes, this was VERY helpful! Thank you!

    • @Freshnss
      @Freshnss  ปีที่แล้ว

      This is a common result of water with lower TDS after fine filtration. Some people are more sensitive to it. Filters that do less filtration won't remove as much and preserve more of the mouthfeel of water with higher TDS.

      Hey Bryan - We worked with the Tap Score water scientists and followed best practices to do all the testing, and we posted all the lab results for everyone to see. @@Freshnss yeah the other video I saw was from Modern Castle and they also used Tap Score. So I’m wondering how accurate the tap score test’s actually are.

    • @Freshnss
      @Freshnss  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I hear you. The tests are done in an EPA certified lab, so they are the best quality you can get. But I would just note the differences in testing procedures like wearing gloves so there is no cross contamination. Or in the video you mention there is water that splashes into the bottom reservoirs as they pour the water into the pitchers, and it bypasses the filter. So things like this make a big difference in testing accuracy and reliability. The process is important

    This also does nothing to mention the price point differences. Clearly filtered starts at $110 and the replacement filters are like $60 each. Meanwhile the water drop pitcher with 5 filters is like $60

    • @Freshnss
      @Freshnss  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Right, that’s a great point! The main purpose was to test filtration effectiveness in this video. The Clearly Filtered is $76.50 with our discount. But we have our full review that compares prices and replacement filter costs on our webpage, that’s listed in the description box. We also have a spreadsheet to compare prices. Again, It depends on your budget and what contaminants you need to remove. That’s why we put all the data out there for you to decide 👌 Good questions though!

    I just got my Clearly Filtered pitcher recently and ran into an issue with the filter. It started to filter water VERY slowly after around 3 weeks of use. I have tried priming the filter on several occasions but it seems to only resolve the issue for a couple of filters before going back to being slow. I reached out to customer support and they suggested trying the reverse flushing technique, which I also tried to no avail. Has anyone else run into this issue? Were you able to resolve it?

      @@Freshnss I've scoured the internet for an answer and came across amazon reviews on Zerowater filters. Apparently it's common that filters run out their life cycle extremely quickly in areas with higher TDS levels. I'd imagine it's a similar situation for me. CF didn't seem willing to send me another filter on the off chance that it was my specific filter, so rather than sink another $60 into another filter to check, I decided to just buy a water distiller with that money.

      No, it's all of the filters. I used clearly filtered water for years. And I got so tired of the slowness. The smell of the container and having to flush each filter. Never knowing when the water would go bad.@@Freshnss

    • @Freshnss
      @Freshnss  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Pitcher filters are best when the water isn't too heavy with contaminants to start with since the amount of media is so small. It could just be that pitchers are not the best treatment option in your area. You may want to consider more robust options like whole house filtration or reverse osmosis depending on what's in your water.

    Is there a reason you did not test for the DBTs in the water?? I thought they are important to remove.
    Also I watched a video from Modern Castle on TH-cam with lab testing from Tap Score and the lab results said that ZeroWater tested for 100% fluoride removal.
    This seems very odd that the same lab would get completely opposite results from the same lab.

    • @Freshnss

      Hey there! You mean DBPs? Disinfection byproducts? We did, but there was primarily chlorine present.
      I’m not familiar with the other video you are referring too, but we took great care to do our sample collection as precise as possible. We also had all our filters directly from the manufactures, so they are all 100% real.

      TDS is simply a reading of “stuff” in your water. The clearly filtered is good because it maintains the healthy minerals and pH balance. So a TDS reading alone is not a very good measure of water quality. But thank you for sharing! Good info 👌
