  • The Carolina Panthers' shocking trade for Bryce Young sent shockwaves through the NFL, and it didn't end well. They traded away DJ Moore and crucial NFL draft picks to secure Young, but it all went downhill. The decision led to the firing of head coach Frank Reich. It all began with the owner's idea to pass on CJ Stroud for Bryce Young.

@@jacksonduval4995it was more than just that. You had a Rasputin like figure named Jack Easterby that supposedly had sayings on things the team should do that he shouldn’t have had. Remember, the Texans almost hired Josh McCown, who had never had any coaching experience in the NfL to be their head coach and Jack wanted him. Plus, it was the whole Deshaun Watson mess, the one-and-done coaches, and the bad play by the team. Now the Texans have seemed to turn the corner and are heading in the right direction.

Also, if I’m bringing in a rookie QB, i don’t think I’d trade DJ Moore AND Christian McCaffrey BEFORE drafting “My Guy”!! How much easier if a time would Bryce have in Carolina, had the Panthers just kept CMC & Moore, and traded/signed a Kyle Shanahan disciple?!
It’s not hard to see Bruce Young taking a couple years to look like a competent player in that Tua type of mold if he has a solid supporting cast around him, but they traded proven talent for lottery picks.
Look at how nice it is for Brock Purdy to play with guys like CMC and Deebo? Now imagine if Deebo was 6’2?! I’ve always liked our guys Aiyuk & Deebo, but ofc I’d still be happy if SF had DJ Moore instead of Deebo and/or AJ Brown instead of Aiyuk. There’s nothing wrong with wanting to transition to a new era, and keeping your elite 26yo MVP-caliber dual threat/do-it-all running back at least as a safeguard for your rookie QB.

Aaron Rodgers is right. People do need to pump the brakes on this whole Stroud/Young thing. People are making this out to be Sam Bowie/Michael Jordan 2.0 and it's just way too early to see it that way, especially given the huge differences in team management. There's little doubt that much of Young's trouble has been due to the current sorry state of the Carolina Panthers. Conversely, the Texans GM and rookie HC are both top candidates for their respective "of the Year" awards, and their rookie OC is likely going to be HC somewhere else next year. CJ Stroud's hot start is not the only thing boosting the Texans this year, and neither is Bryce Young's disappointing first year entirely (or even primarily) of his own making.

Also, I'm more comfortable trusting Ian Rapoport than random social media opinions and he has explicitly stated that he doesn't feel like Tepper is a particularly meddling owner and that this feeling comes exclusively from the fact that the Panthers have sucked since TJ Watt destroyed Cam Newton's shoulder and went unpunished (that last part was my addition).
Most people don't watch the Panthers and for that I don't blame them, but talking about the team as if they did understand everything about it is annoying af. Newton was playing some of his best football before the aforementioned injury, with Carolina at 6-2 in 2018. However, he got injured again in 2019 and the team couldn't recover. In 2020 Matt Rhule came and his first year was ok, but he made the critical mistake of trying to compete with Bridgewater and then the even worse mistake of trading for Sam Darnold. Now, I have never heard anything about Sam Darnold or Terry Bridgewater being forced upon the team by Tepper, so how are those his fault? Because those were the moves that set the franchise back for years; hell, they even activated Darnold's 5th year option the day they traded for him! Is Tepper to blame for that too? Okay, Tepper was the one that hired Rhule, but acting like everything that Rhule did was his fault is absolutely insane. The same applies to Reich. His offense was one of the worst I've ever seen since I started watching football and now what, you're gonna tell me that Tepper randomly overruled his entire playbook and trained the team in his place?
Like I said, my point here is not to defend Tepper, but blaming him for all those bad years in Carolina is absurd and actually takes off the burden from other much guiltier people. There's a total of zero evidence that he is that iron fist dictator some people like to call him. All I remember coming from a serious source is that once he approached Reich and told him he wanted to see a play he liked from Cleveland being used in a game. That's it. No evidence whatsoever that that was actually taken seriously by any coach. "Oh, because he liked to talk to coaches after every game"; how does this prove anything if you don't know if that is a common practice among owners or how any of those meetings actually went? "Oh, because Reich said something"; again, without proper context, what does that prove?
