I like the fact all the men on this video all share there things with one another, even at the end the bloke who came over with the bacon rolls offers everyone a roll TOP MEN!
+Rex Orwell it's amazing what the 'actors ' come up with after a few practise runs .......all they need is an idea of what is required .............and to make it into a proper production the camera just needs repositioned a few times during the takes ............ ( which we couldn't do on the day ) ..........but its a great quick way to make a drama.................. I know it's been done before , but never in the Barras :)
Na. I've always wanted to see Mike Leigh or Loach processing, but it's a bit different in that they're using actors who're fluent in a task-specific language, whereas the actor here isn't. But it's interesting because, now in 2015, everyone's familiar with the basic concepts of film making just because TV's been around for so long now. It would probably surprise anyone how much talent could be uncovered from within passers-by in the street if the right approaches were made. Marlon Brando said "everyone's an actor"... I agree, and Vincent Laforet said "You can learn more watching a film than you'd ever learn at film school." He's right. But even if you'd had the same gear, I don't think you could have done this twenty years ago, I think people will have been like deers in headlights. It's a fuzzy line. You didn't get what you wanted, even though the instructions were simple, because the processes in this man's brain are chaotic and free-flowing (edit - electric soup), so you get flashes of something that's probably better than what you had in mind, but nevertheless, you've got to pull what you took back and try and force it into a square hole (the story). I think you should keep pushing in this direction, film I mean. You're still in the old world, it's all there for the capture.
Thanks for taking the time to express your thoughts on oor efforts ....... we have been trying the improvised stuff over the past month or so ...... got the point about actors who are familiar with the impro style ..... its some laugh asking the folk around the shop to perform in our attempts at working towards creating a worth watching 'drama' .... I also like including all the shenanigans that come with the 'behind the scenes 'instructions' ..... Was wondering what part of the world do you hail ....and have you any experience in TV production ...... ?
Aye, I mean, it could potentially seem trivial but the snapshots of life around the shop are high value. But it's limited, because there's a lot going on in the houses and schemes, you can't follow a subject throughout the day, and people don't typically tell anyone about the real stories going on in their lives, so unfortunately a good deal of artistic license is still required. When I say you're still in the old world what I'm getting at there is - the changes that are round the corner are gigantic. And there's no way of knowing how that will pan out, it could be war, but if we do what's required of us then the world will look very different. Put it this way we'll be digging up motorways because they'll be empty. What it means essentially is there's an awful lot that's gonna be lost, particularly from impoverished areas. Tones, language, frames of reference, routine, personalities, states of mind, the inanimate, old world system proofs, dialect, community history, stories is/are all being lost as the days pass. Now, to you and me its not all that interesting, it's mundane, cold, dirty, there's a horror underlying, but in the future, again, if we do what's required of us, then people would watch what seems trivial now with much greater enthusiasm. There'll come a point where the most cherished documents will be the ones where the director gives the creative responsibility to the subject / actor. Improvisation around a central vision is a good way to secure a place in the best archives. Of course, there's a lot to get right. I'm a student director by the way. Self teaching that is. Been studying film for a long time. I think, online, people presume that I'm a big shot but I'm nothing, I'm just well connected that's all, big networks. Have I ever made a film, no. Do I intend to, yes. Would I have swung by for a darjini by now if it was possible, probably aye. Newcastle. No motor at the minute. Impoverished. Also, the aim of the game to some extent is to dismantle frames of reference. You're probably thinking about film as a static medium, but from an artistic standpoint, and I know you've an interest so I'm not wasting my time saying this, film should be considered a foundation resource. What you put on film could potentially be used in new mediums moving forward. Good practice to keep an open mind about what strange forms our storytelling and use of existing content might take as new technological paradigms come to the fore. For instance, it will be possible to recreate old-world environments in real world platforms, simply from a piece of old film. Anythings possible with technology... (Provided there's a data start point). [Edit - Here's a concept for you. What if I could use the interaction you shot here as the background for my film. Even though I was working from totally different angles, and the setting was entirely different, but it would still look real. That's the kind of thing that wouldn't be difficult further down the line.] I've been watching the bits and pieces, what's not clear yet is what you're actually doing. I've got high hopes though, because you've got good methods. I'd like to see you do something that makes you think "Shit, perhaps we should do something more serious. Bigger." I'd help physically if I could, but if that's not possible I can certainly help with ideas, second opinion or promotion so bend my ear anytime.
+Rex Orwell Wow that was deep. I studied film myself, but leaning more towards the animation side of things. I recently graduated with a BA. I am also in the process of making a short film myself, which is time consuming but fun. I hope to have it in the festivals late next year if all goes well. Best of luck to both of you guys. happy filming.
+Zoo Scott Glad you like it :) ....................sorry about the annoying noise in the background .........it was the gigantic generator that was being used for the RAVE that was on all weekend across the road :(

The ability to deal with people is as purchasable a commodity as sugar or coffee. and I pay more for that ability than for any other under the Sun.
