I never thought about collecting pinguins books because I don't really enjoy paperbacks. But the ones with the comics on the cover really looked interesting! Thank you for making this video!

These are my favorite! I have a copy of Gravity's Rainbow, East of Eden, and We Have Always Lived in the Castle from this series. I love the deckled edges!

Any idea why The Picture of Dorian Gray is the only one from the Couture Collection that's out of print? I just found out it existed today, and I wish it were available.
I think Penguin cannibalise the sales of some titles as they use the same ones in lots of different series. They have at least four editions of Dorian Gray in print at the moment. So this means some of their special editions like the Couture collection don’t get reprinted when they sell out. Having both a play and a movie for Dorian over the past few years may have bumped up popularity of this title more than anticipated? You can still find them secondhand if you’re patient - good luck in your hunt!

I have bought a used copy of Borges' Collected Fictions, the embossed design is not present at the cover. I want to know if it is counterfeit or original. There are no other indications of the book being a counterfeit; the copyright, the quality of material, and the print are all great. Are there editions out there that are like this or maybe this is just a defect?
@BeautifulBooks I know this series is paperback but i was wondering about the Arabian Nights Penguin Deluxe Edition which is hardback, is this part of this series or is there another series im not aware of??
Hi - assuming you are talking about the 2008 3-volume deluxe edition set, it was a one-off printing, similar in size and design to the three “proto-clothbound series” books: Hans Christian Andersen Fairy Tales (2005), Tibetan Book of the Dead (2006), and Poems for Life (2007). The full list of clothbound classics is here: beautifulbooks.info/penguin-clothbound-classics
There are notes by the translator, but it’s not annotated per se. It’s part of the Penguin Deluxe Classics series, so that means it includes features like wraparound cover art, literary introductions, French flaps, and decked page edges.

The Christine Donougher translation (which is used by the Penguin Deluxe Classics) is great, and you won't need additional annotations as much as you might with other translators. The Julie Rose translation comes with a lot of footnotes which can be helpful. But probably the most comprehensive notes are available for free through the online annotation project here: chanvrerie.net/lmap/Main_Page

Sometimes special features like embossing are only included on first printings, so that could be the case here?
