    IIRC, these use a 1-wire capacitive coupling method, not inductive. Though the instructions to wind the pickup wire around the ignition cable makes one initially think it's inductive. The pickup wire needs to make full physical contact with the ignition wire along the entire wound area for most reliable function. Again, that's IIRC. Been several years since I researched the coupling method.

    • @fnaguitarplayer9
      @fnaguitarplayer9  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      That actually makes more sense, I just assumed it was inductive. Thanks for clearing that up! And Thanks for Watching!!!

    The timing light clamp is a great idea.

      Yeah, but as someone else mentioned, this is capacitive coupled, not inductive so it probably will not work. Thanks for Watching!!!

    I'm new to briggs stuff but play with the predator motors on mini bikes a lot. I know on those if you tap into the kill switch wire , the tach is much more accurate. Not sure if you can do that on a briggs but thought i'd mention it. I been watchin your vids as I just picked up a old manco 3 wheeler powered by the 8 hp I/C briggs engine. Your videos have been a great help. thanks Plan to run the 8 hp this summer but will swap a 16 vanguard on over the winter.

    I just use a voltmeter with a heavy lo90ad 120 to 125 volts. That makes sure about the 220 for tyhe pump. The 2500 watt is 1800 r.p.m. because of 4 pole. Usually around 110/120. I rarely run stuff hammered and the 5k is intermittent so no problem. I've thought of one but not yet. You'll let us know how nit does and pick me one!

    Can you get 10,000 or higher rpm's with this techometer?

  • @justarel

    The battery used in these is about the same as a cr2032 button cell that's directly soldered to the circuit board. The one I have looks the same but i've had nothing but issues with it, where my honda branded one reads spot on exact what my mechanical and reflective laser rpm meters read.

    • @fnaguitarplayer9

      I don't use it all the time but just for setting rpms on generators and stuff, but for that it seems to work good and appears to be pretty accurate, its not a instant read out but it does work good. Thanks for Watching!!!

    Good info right here. So what mode would be used for a 4-cycle 150cc scooter engine??

    • @fnaguitarplayer9
      @fnaguitarplayer9  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Should be the same as in the video, that should fire with every revolution. Thanks for Watching!!!

    • @johncoops6897
      @johncoops6897 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nobody can answer that question accurately. You would use whatever mode is necessary for YOUR engine. The fact that it's 150cc or in a scooter has absolutely no relevance to anything whatsoever. The only thing you need to know is how many times it fires every revolution, and that is something that nobody on the internet can guess.

  • @NONAME-kw3pu
    @NONAME-kw3pu 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    SETTING 2 for small engines that fire EVERY TIME THE PISTON COMES UP, it is a dead fire on ex closing/intake opening stroke so nothing happens when plug fires. the instructions are ... difficult as im sure they were transcribed from mandarin and... it loses something in translation. they last 2-3 years. the newer ones the plastic is sealed as one unit, it wud take a serious amt of work to cut the back of the unit open to get the battery out. the old ones had the back glued on and it wasnt that hard to open it up to change the dime sized watch battery 2032?

  • @peteduncan921
    @peteduncan921 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    With some of these cheap meters that have a non-replaceable battery, they have "potted" the internals by filling the case with epoxy. That would make it difficult to replace the battery.

    • @totallyfrozen
      @totallyfrozen 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mine has a screw on battery cover, but if you can manage to get the back of this unit off, it takes a CR2450 battery.

  • @totallyfrozen
    @totallyfrozen 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @fnaguitarplayer9

      It should maintain it but it will never 100% maintain it, it will vary slightly. Usually its not enough to matter if its normal load. Thanks for Watching!!!

    • @fnaguitarplayer9

      No, it should work the same on any small engine, they all fire the spark plug on each revolution, so it will be same as a 2 cycle. It won't work on a vehicle engine that fires only on the compression stroke. Thanks for Watching!!!

    Question, do you know the RPM specs for my Briggs Exi 163cc OHV engine? The engine cover says 2600 the repair manual says 3060 to 3600 depending on what day it is LOL, my meter reading was 2960 does that sound right?
    Side Note: After doing my homework I think its funny Briggs and Stratton charge you for a copy of the repair manual but TORO doesn't just saying... thanks again.

    • @fnaguitarplayer9
      @fnaguitarplayer9  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      most of them are 3600 but i've seen alot that recommend 2600/2800 depends on the engine. I'd go by whats on the engine, and i'd say that the 2960 would be close enough to 2600 or 3000. you can get on the briggs website unless they changed it, and download them on there for free. Your welcome, Thanks for Watching!!!

    • @johncoops6897
      @johncoops6897 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Toro is who has specified the engine, Briggs is who made it. The equipment manufacturer (Toro) will set the governor springs etc as they require to best suit their device's requirements.

    1 spark per resolution for small 2/4 stroke engine?

    • @fnaguitarplayer9

      Yes, because of how the magnet on the flywheel passes the coil with each revolution, on 4 cycles there is a "wasted" spark on the exhaust stroke. Thanks for Watching!!!
