    I cannot praise this tutorial highly enough. I was dreading trying to transfer the music, fearing that it would be complicated and fraught with failure. I looked for several days for the best way to transfer iTunes from my old computer to the new one, and this one is outstanding. Nick's explanations were clear, easy and precise. Even though my old computer is a Windows XP, I had no trouble figuring out how to make it work despite minor differences. Thank you, Nick for your help.

    I am totally amazed!! For years I have struggled through having to keep my very old laptop that’s slow as it can be, simply because my music in iTunes was set up on it exactly the way I needed it to be for my iPod. Thanks to your tutorial, I was able to successfully move my playlists to my new computer!! It took me 2 days because I kept messing up the steps, but I’m so impressed because I read several things on how to do it, and they all were entirely too complicated or suggested that I had to buy software. Thank you so much for this tutorial!!

    About five or six years ago I used the home sharing method to migrate all my music files from the old laptop to the new one. This method worked, but it literally took half a day to complete. Last year I needed to perform the same migration again, and tried to follow the convoluted methods on the official Apple site, and eventually gave up as I just couldn't get anything to work according to their instructions.
    The method outlined here is so simple and it works (and my 12,000+ files moved in just over an hour). Congratulations on an excellent video, and thank you very much.

    I know it’s been awhile since you posted this, but I just wanted to tell you that I tried for days to transfer our iTunes files to our new computer without success. I reviewed about a dozen TH-cam sights and tried just about everything. I found your site and followed your instructions and it worked!!! Thank you so much for posting these instructions. I wish I would have done this in the beginning.

    OMG..!! This is absolutely AMAZING..!! Tried other videos and didn't work as well as yours... the most amazing part is that brought all my libraries organized as I had them on my old computer, running music, mellow music, work music and so and so.. you are AMAZING..!! Thank you sooooo much xoxo

    Thank you, Nick, it's amazing that you made this so simple and easy to do when I have been struggling with the "official instructions" from Apple iTunes for a week without being able to figure out what I was doing wrong. You do a FINE JOB of explaining and helping and I hope you know how much I appreciate it!

    Thank you SO MUCH for this tutorial! I have always just had a separate music folder and not allowed iTunes to copy the files to itself (relic of being annoyed at having to use iTunes in the first place when I got my first iPod... when I still used Windows Media Player for listening on PC). Unfortunately this meant I couldn't transfer playlists, because they pointed to old file paths when I moved folders to my new computer. This video was concise and exactly what I needed!
    As an added bonus, transferring all the prefs from my old iTunes made it recognize my iPhone without having to erase everything! As many people know, hooking an iPhone up to a new computer often comes with the dreaded "iPhone is synced with another iTunes Library. Do you want to erase this iPhone and sync with this iTunes Library?" warning. When I tried moving my iTunes manually the first time, this warning came up. After uninstalling iTunes and starting over with this tutorial, when I hooked my iPhone up (expecting to erase, but now it was ok since my playlists were back) the warning was gone! Unexpected but welcome!
    A note for others using multiple storage drives: I did not want the library in the default location, as I am using an SSD for booting and a HDD for storage, and pointing the iTunes program to a different library than default can be tricky. This page helped with that extra step: www.davidlimonline.com/blog/2019/5/1/cant-change-the-itunes-media-folder-location-try-creating-a-new-itunes-library

    I had mixed results using Nick's method. I was transferring a large i-tunes music library (700 + albums) from an HP Windows 7 laptop to a new Motile Windows 10 laptop using an external usb drive as the transfer medium. The transfer itself took about 3 hours. After the transfer the i-tunes app on the Windows 10 pc had lots of problems with the data that was transferred. Lots of missing artwork and many albums were marked "unknown album". Also, many albums were split up into multiple albums and had to be consolidated back into one album by changing either the album name, artist, composer, or genre. This task of filling in the missing blanks, retrieving artwork, and combining albums took about 12 hours. I followed all of the steps listed in the tutorial and have no idea what went wrong. I did not get any error messages from either Windows 7 or Windows 10 during the transfer process. I think this had more to do with i-tunes than Nick's procedure. Over the years I have had problems with i-tunes losing artwork. I have even created a separate folder to store artwork away from i-tunes so that I can quickly restore it when it randomly disappears. Nick, thanks for the tutorial, I eventually have everything migrated to the new computer.

      Yes! This is terrible and seems there's no fix for it!!...I assume it's partly due to illegal torrent downloads and iTunes somehow making it difficult for us to upload them correctly? I dunno just my thoughts...

    Off all the videos I have watched, this is the most spot on. I say that because if you it exactly your iTunes from your old PC will be transferred. The "Spot On" comes from the fact that you Play Counts, Playlists, Last Played etc etc are replicated on you new PC. No need to start re configuring Library.xml or other.
    The only thing I'll advise is to consolidate your iTunes songs on your old PC to just the C:\Users\Your User\Music\iTunes\iTunes Media\Music folder before you copy.

    When consolidating my library I encountered the "Can't copy file name too long or invalid" issue which was a pain in the ass since I had 2000+ songs with no idea which ones were the offenders. After a long time of sifting through them I was fortunately able to work around this.
    It still boggles my mind that Apple can create extremely user-friendly operating systems like iOS yet when it comes to their iTunes program it has always been so needlessly complicated.
    As one of the few people who still likes to download and manage his music the way he has been since the iPod days, this video was a huge help. Thank you.

    The key is to make sure all the file identifiers at the top of your screen are in the same order as Nick's. (i.e. "This PC>C:>Users>Owner>Music>etc>etc"). This helped me when I got confused. Just follow the screen shots and imitate the file(s) order on top of Nick's PC screen. Thanks Nick!

However, I tried to locate an album I'd added (Christmas present) and couldn't find it. When I revealed the Status Bar, I noticed that the number of items on my new computer was considerably less than on my old computer (thank goodness I hadn't deleted my old library!) A little late I'm sure but that means that iTunes cannot locate the songs because they are in a different location than the other computer. Basically if you want to keep your 'PLAYLISTS' AND OTHER MUSIC, you'll need to go song by song. Right click on the song and and search for the file you have saved. Sadly, this means you will need to do this song by song. If someone has a better solution, please pipe in.

    Both this instructional video and the one you made a couple years ago were excellent! To the point, easy to follow, concise, well versed and demonstrated! I need this as I am trying to move to a new computer also.
    I have idevices that I have been backing up to the old computer. Could you PLEASE tell me how this copy of the libraries to new computer will effect the idevice backups and more importantly my idevices being recognized and able to use the new moved iTunes? Thank you very much!

    • @nickscomputerfix
      @nickscomputerfix  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +MRrwmac Thanks for the nice comment. If it's in the iTunes library in the old computer, it will all be moved /transferred to the iTunes library in the new computer. If it's not in the old computer iTunes library media folder, it will not be transferred via my steps given in the video.

    • @MRrwmac
      @MRrwmac 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +nickscomputerfix Ok Thanks, I assume your talking about the backups to the idevices, so the backups are also stored in the library? Now what about the idevice recognition, Please clarify that (whatever iTunes uses to identify the idevices it identified before) is also in the library being transferred to the new computer and will therefore recognize those devices and their previous association with the library backups? Thank you again for sharing your expert knowledge!

    Hello Nick, grateful to have found you! I can only get into my relic running windows 7, by safe mode. Will your method still work to transfer to my new windows 10? Also how to transfer to IPad? I am not tech savvy, and would be heartbroken to lose all my music.
