I routinely mine places I have gone to over and over again. It genially works most of the time generating tons of bonus kill points. Sometimes the maps will do a hard reset that deletes all the mines, it doesn't happen often. Also don't drop them at spawn points like where turrets sit, or they will be deleted when the turrets re spawn. It's best to place them where foes move to while on alert. And space them out to prevent chain reaction explosions. Also mines will kill hostages. Pickup remaining mines and save before freeing them.
late to the party but there is a trick to make this run WAYYYYY easier. if you have an armour and modify every parts to lower the damage cause by explosion (can't remember the name of the mod) it makes you immune to explosions, even mini nukes. that would have allowed you to melee attack with explosive freesbies. perfectly balanced game I love it. Great video though

I always found it easy to get kills with mines. I mean if you're good at kiting you can use them pretty easily and take no damage or very little.
