Him getting that old toy back is adorable and amazing since its been such a long time. Kinda speaks about the utter dimension of the little things in life in Ishiguro's work, like that tape called 'Songs After Dark' in Never Let Me Go. Amazing author.

This man is an incredible author. He demolishes me every time I read his work.
I don't see how the word "demolishes" could possibly be applied to his work, which is too quiet and tasteful to provoke such an extreme reaction. His books are slowish, reflective, imbued with formality and a sense of restraint that can impress (Remains of the Day) or lull the reader into a state just short of sleep (Never Let Me Go and the one with "Floating" in the title) I don't read this author for high drama or juiciness. His titles and blurbs interest me, but the actual experience of reading his books is like going to a dinner party at a rich person's home and being served tofu. These are the kinds of books that readers who want to impress others read. They exhibit excellent writing skills but are not particularly entertaining. That does not mean I won't read anymore of his books, only that I have to be in the mood for his impeccable, somewhat arid style.
I really love this video, the Nobel Prize organization! Please make more like it! It's a magnificent setup and a great interview.

I'm not saying that Kazuo Ishiguro didn't deserve the nobel prize, but there are so many great writers who never got their due who deserved the NP as much if not more than Kazuo. Why didnt Arthur C Clarke win the nobel? Why didnt Philip k dick or John bummer win the prize? I know why it was because they were primarily sci fi writers and scifi is not taken seriously by elitist snobs even today.
