Excellent Video! I have same hose cracks. Would have been difficult to find the canister bracket upper bolt without this video. I temporarily sealed hose cracks with heat shrink wrap and electrical tape until I can source new hoses and split fitting.
Really is a great looking truck this video was very helpful and I appreciate you posting it gonna have check my evap system on my 97 ram 4x4 a little easier to get under
Nice diagnostic walk-through. Much appreciated. I've got the PO455 Large Leak with my 2003 Ford Focus and I'm researching to see where to start. Forums have pointed to valves like the vapor management but after watching some videos....I'd better check my hoses first. Very helpful, thanks.
THIS VIDEO WAS THE MOST HELPFUL ONE TO HELP ME WITH MY PO455 DODGE RAM. My check engine light is preventing me from passing smog, getting tags and clearing my ticket which is due in Four days. I am eager to get under my truck and find that leak. Hopefully similar to the video. Thank You....
I found your video while searching for the 0442/0455 codes for my Dodge truck. I went to my evap canisters and found that the hose that goes from the left canister to the gas tank was split. I switched it out and my check engine light went out. Thanks.
I like the process you used to fix this, but I wanted to just throw out a note of general interest. When you clear trouble codes, it also resets the emissions monitors, including the EVAP monitor. To make these "ready" again, you have to put a certain amount of drive cycles on the vehicle. What I'm getting at is that clearing codes after the fix and starting the truck will not be a valid test of the fix, because the EVAP monitor drives both of those codes. It won't throw the light or code until it comes ready. In my experience with Dodges, EVAP has historically been the LAST to come Ready. If you are doing this close to an emissions test, DO NOT reset the trouble codes. Your vehicle will show as not ready for testing and they will turn you away. Just drive it for a few cycles until the light goes off (assuming your fix worked). I went through EVAP issues for a few years until I replaced the stock Dodge crap, and subsequent Dorman replacement crap with armor flex and reducing couplers like you did. Also, unless you have a subsequent way to pull a vaccuum on your fuel system, I don't recommend keeping the system open (at least cap it off if you remove EVAP and bypass it). Leaving it open will cause premature fuel pump failure, and that is waaaaaay worse to fix than an EVAP issue. :-)
I'm about ready to take a sledge hammer to mine if I don't find this leak. My canisters didn't come down as easy as yours. Then it may be my broken wrist that's making it difficult. Oh how I miss my VW. Great video. Thanks.
Turn the key to just the five-star 3 times in under ten seconds and watch your odometer. It lists codes no matter what year, up to 08(?) Maybe even newer but it works on my 00 Dakota, o5 grand caravan, 01 ram 1500 & 07 Durango.
Can some one tell me what are does 2 lines that connects to one at 3:38 i have 2001 dodge ram 1500 and i have the two lines disconnect and cant find where they have to be connected
Does this have anything to do with the evaporator coil? I have the code po455 on my2001 dodge ram truck . I replaced the evaporator coil in 2013 and it cost over 900.00 , I just need to know if they are the same , the evap system and the coil . Please , I have been ripped off so much on my truck and it doesn't even have 98000 miles yet .Please
Why Dodge doesn't sell that damn two to one rubber piece is beyond me. The dealer tried to sell me the same deal. Don't need every hose for one rubber fitting.
Turn your ignition key forward 3 times in a row to the on position without starting it. The third time leave the key in the forward position and read the code. It will display in the mileage readout window. You don't have to buy a diagnostic device.
Daredevil7442...would a cracked hose connection straight from the throttle to the evap port cause loss of acceleration? I just found it and put a bandaid on it til I can get the proper tube..?
Tim T That line is a return line and I'm pretty sure it would have no effect other then fuel fumes leaking into the atmosphere and turning on the check engine light...otherwise, it's nothing to worry about until you repair the line.
What does the evap leak do to the truck for drivability issues ----Mine has shown the evap leak code for a couple years, ever since I bought it it goes on for a week or so --then turns off for a week or so but I just drive it anyways, it seems to run/ drive ok, but ive never known what its like in perfect condition, My only complaint is it downshifts immediately, on mild throttle increase, or towing a trailer it wont keep in overdrive even if a small empty flat deck trailer on flat ground.....---thanks for your advice
I didn't notice any running/drivability issues with or without the evap leak, i fixed it due to hatin the check engine light being on and annoying me, the evap system is basically a unspent return fuel/vapor line back to the gas tank so, if it has a leak, the leak is basically releasing the gas fumes into the atmosphere instead of returning it to the gas tank so, not a big deal and the gas tank may not be properly pressurized....that is if it needs to be?? So, IMO it doesn't matter but, it's easy enough to fix if the check engine light is on.....besides the system check I did in the video, the leak could also be from a faulty gas cap so, if there are no noticeable leaks then I would change the gas cap first and then work my way around the evap system. good luck
Thanks vary much I thought it was just a emissions nothing ...... it was just the tyranny shifting funny that got me wondering if that could be vacuum leak related
The evap is a field saving device that traps gas vapors and reuses them for combustion and economy. It also decreases emissions of noxious toxic fuel vapor into the atmosphere in a huge way.
@@daredevil7442AUTOMOTIVE I'll check it out. Yesterday I found, what appears to be the cause with the P442 and P455 codes, was my gas cap was on all the way. Smelled like gas in that area to strong before I checked. Of course after checking all the hoses like you did. Almost thought I'd have to plan a trip to the salvage yard to see what I can find. Cleared the code and seems to be not returning after a long day on the road. Wondering, do you ever get the misfires with yours? I do on mine at times relating to the throttle position sensor (TPS). Over the years I've replaced a few times (~180,000 miles now) and maybe two years back found that cleaning the connection and adding some dielectric grease helped the connection irregularities with idle and performance... plus doing an occasional manual by hand full cycling of the throttle a few times brings the sensor back into spec seems. I was removing and cleaning the whole throttle body by hand. Thinking when I do wind up placing the new TPS in, I might try to disassemble and clean the old one where at least just to see what the wipers look like inside. Guessing over the years somethings up with that sensor more than what I was sold on by others who did the maintenance. Now that I've been performing... interesting narrowing down to what in the past was replacing distributor, rotor, wires and maybe plugs... seems to just be the TPS over the last few years. I'll check out your other videos when I find the time. Thanks for sharing!
my 2001 dodge ram I got almost 2 months ago has these same codes, I'm going to try putting a new gas cap on and see if that fixes it, somebody in the comments below mentioned deleting the entire evap system, I wonder how much work that would be. I'd prefer the check engine light not be on 24-7 too lol....many guys on forums seem to have driven their trucks perfectly fine for years though with these codes with no ill effects
I hate a lot of things for dodge esp. 98 - 2006. Your dash looks awesome man! I got my truck used and the dash is all broke, turns out its a manufacture part defect. My light came on and did not check those canisters thx! Now about your exhaust! You mentioned flowmasters, was it the 40 series?
That carpet cover on the dash is covering 2 huge cracks, the top of the dashboard cracked back in 2007 so, there were only 2 options, either replace dash or use dash carpet kit! The dash carpet cover looks pretty good and as far as the flowmasters, I put those on back in 2007 and I think they are either flowmaster super 40's...I think but, next time I'm gonna go with the flowmaster super 10, best sounding muffler around....in my opinion.
zephyr Dok it took me awhile to find a place that sells dashes because of my trucks dash is missing a chunk and not just covers..but plasticpartsinc.com sell new dodge dashes unfortunately there 340 bucks
Damnit! $340 That sucks! I keep finding adhesive or snap on! Its so hard to find a legit replacement that's built to oem specs! Thx tho man I'll still check the url!
Thanks for the Vid. Did you try AutoZone or NAPA for parts? Lil 411 Before painting you really should remove rust w/ naval jelly/ something. Painting over it seals it & actually makes it rust faster. Why you never undercoat a car that isn't brand new. Good job.
Thanks for the video, will have to check out my 2001 ram just like you did. While I did a smoke test a while back and didn't find any leaks I did notice that when I started getting the P0455 code I started getting what appears to be a lot of vacuum from my gas tank when I uncap the gas cap, might be something to that. thanks
Went through all the trouble of making a video. Why wouldn’t you turn the radio off? Seems like you left it on on purpose. Trying to watch and listen to an informative video
You do realize that after you clear codes you have to drive the vehicle AT LEAST 50 miles for all the systems to come back online in order to make sure the actual problem was fixed?
I have the same codes in my 2001 Durango and the smog tech told me I needed a new purge valve and evaporated hoses going to the motor. Not completely sure what that means but I am so sick of my car smelling like gas. I replaced the purge valve canister and number 8cyl coil pack because he told me that was faulty to but haven't checked hoses yet. But car still smells heavy of fuel
Why is it that my evap never turned on until now and when i looked it up it says that it doesnt need it anymore and that they stop making parts for this.lol
That’s the cleanest motor and transmission I’ve seen in a 2nd gen!!
Seriously rare indeed.
You aint seen mine😂 bought the truck at 110k miles, New Transmission, Engine Rebuilt. Put over 15k in it
Excellent Video! I have same hose cracks. Would have been difficult to find the canister bracket upper bolt without this video. I temporarily sealed hose cracks with heat shrink wrap and electrical tape until I can source new hoses and split fitting.
now that's what I like to see in a truck/car clean and not trashed out. great looking truck I got a 1999 1500 and keep her spotless also.
Thanks
Really is a great looking truck this video was very helpful and I appreciate you posting it gonna have check my evap system on my 97 ram 4x4 a little easier to get under
Your video probably saved me a couple hours... Since my truck is out in the country, I just ordered all the hoses ahead of time! Thanks!
Thank you it worked,I found 3 large cracks in my canister hose. I never thought of looking on top of my canister.

If you turn your ignition off and on three times and stop on the third time it'll show your engine codes

Mines got just over 90,000 miles and it's a 2002 360 5.9 and it's not event that clean. Love the truck man
never apologize for playing metallica!
Thanks for sharing buddy I have the same problem for my Ram.
Hahaha when you say have the same problem you're talking about the music
Is a front end alignment and a new set of tires next? That left front is looking pretty nasty.
Beautiful 2nd gen Ram! Single cab short bed r Beautiful 😍
Thank's, also like the splice job with the hoses.

The onboard diagnostic will give you the codes. P0455. Nice truck. I have the same. What's that maintenance port for.
Not sure what you mean by maintenance port?
This was super helpful, unfortunately my round evaporated canister is cracked and I can’t find a replacement :(
thanks! Very helpful. God bless you, and Jesus loves you!
Could hear you better without the music.
Did you ever hear any water when you started your truck?
What were the Symptoms other than service engine light?
Good video! I always crack up though cause with chryslers u can just grab the code through the ignition
Eric Patton only on 96 and back. 97 and newer is OBDII
@@leadnlinetv5112 I have an 01 and the ignition trick still works

Five-star? No. "just I before"
Prime, paint and THEN Lanolin coat. Use 750? Good for years and treats, n seals paint n metal, hoses stay moist etc

Your thermostat is stuck, you need to replace it.
shut that radio off

NO totally different component.
Evaporator coil is the A/C component inside the cab of the truck. It gets cold and the A/C fan forces air through it to cool the air.
All of my hoses look great. But fricken light goes on & off. Idk why. Same year as yours
thanks for posting
wow that truck is clean
can you mke a quick vid about that thick line coming from the canister plz? i think im missing a few things.

on a 01 dodge ram 1500 you can turn the key on & off 3 times get your codes dont start it
if cant buy a fancy tool like he has
Turn your ignition key forward 3 times in a row to the on position without starting it. The third time leave the key in the forward position and read the code. It will display in the mileage readout window. You don't have to buy a diagnostic device.
John Smith only works for 3rd gens
Lies. I have 5 dodges, 2000-2007, ram Dakota Durango and grand caravan and that works on all of them.
I just tried it on my 01 1500. P0455 pops up but the other code my code reader detects doesn't put up.
