    Larry started balling with the hotel and restaurant staff in French Lick when he was in 6th grade. Those guys must have talked so much sh*t to him - those courts are where his game and legend began. He said those guys gave him a chance to play and he was grateful.

    Larry Bird is the first player to accomplish the 50-40-90 club, the only person in NBA history to be named Rookie of the Year, 3 point Champion three straight years, MVP three times straight (When competing against Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Dr. J, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, James Worthy and many more), Finals MVP, All-Star MVP, Coach of the Year, and Executive of the Year.

    For those that think Larry Bird was not as good as he really was and never had the chance to see him play this comment is for you. Remember in this comment I am just highlighting Larry's NBA accomplishments.
    Little know thing about Larry to those that never saw him play , he could effect the outcome of a game and never take a shot thats how devastating his passing skills were. Here is one thing that most fans (people) either don't know or try to ignore, prior to Larry joining the NBA there was no such thing as a three point line, that came in when Bird was starting his first year of his NBA career. Just think about it, what would todays game be without the three point line or if the line was one foot farther out like it was when it was first introduced. Food for thought.
    At that time it was not about the individuals stats it was about the win. But if you need some stats here you go:
    Here are some of Larry Bird's notable career achievements and statistics:
    Three-time NBA champion (1981, 1984, 1986); Two-time NBA Finals MVP (1984, 1986); Three-time NBA MVP (1984-86); 12-time NBA All-Star (1980-88, 1990-92); Nine-time All-NBA First Team (1980-88);
    All-NBA Second Team (1990); Three-time All-NBA Defensive Second Team (1982-84); NBA Rookie of the Year (1980); NBA All-Rookie Team (1980); Three-time NBA Three-Point Contest champion (1986-88);
    Career-high in points: 60 (March 12, 1985) -- tied for franchise record with Jayson Tatum; Named NBA Coach of the Year (1998); and Named NBA Executive of the Year (2012).
    Larry Bird, was the first player to accomplish the 50-40-90 achievement, and one of two players to achieve the feat in multiple seasons.
    Career averages:
    24.3 points per game
    10.0 rebounds per game
    6.3 assists per game
    88.6% free throw percentage
    49.6% field goal percentage
    37.6% 3-point percentage
    Now we can't forget that Bird famously played with two injured ankles and a notoriously cranky back that forced him to lay down on the floor during practice breaks. After season-ending foot surgery just six games into the 1988-89 season

    Larry Bird was the most complete basketball player all time. He was top 5 in every aspect of the game. And he was the GOAT trash talker because he backed it up like no other.
    If Larry Bird isn't in your top 5 list I will guarantee you every player in your top five list will have Bird in THEIR top five list. Don't take my word for it. Just watch their interviews and what they say about Bird.

    I appreciate seeing a younger fan learning about Bird and appreciating his greatness! He is the greatest ALL-AROUND player to ever pick up a basketball and I'm including HUSTLE AND PLAYING INJURED in the all-around category!! In my 45 years of watching and playing basketball, I've never seen anyone do some of the things that Larry did!! And the most amazing thing to me was that Bird was never fully healthy for one game of his NBA career, having mangled his finger on his shooting hand before signing his rookie contract with the Celtics! Keep learning about Bird....I GUARANTEE THAT YOU WON'T BE DISAPPOINTED!!!!! Much love and respect 🤙

    larry's steal was against the Pistons. you really should do "The greatest Rivalry in Sports History Magic vs Bird". You could do it in 3 or 4 parts. It explains alot about the importance of these 2 men that brought the NBA from becoming a foot note in history.

    The thing about Bird that many people overlook is that he was a hurt human being. He grew up poor and his dad committed suicide.

    Bird grew up ballin' with the brothers. I believe that's where he learned to talk trash. I also believe that's why he was insulted when a team put a white guy on him defensively. Lol.

    I can't stand it when children claim that older stars wouldn't be able to compete with the newest generation of NBA because of the difference in players' athletic abilities. Like athleticism wasn't invented until after the year 2,000. The greatest athlete, by FAR, in the history of the NBA has been retired for 50yrs already. And that debate has been settled for all time with Wilt in a category all by himself. If you possessed a magical time machine that could bring a 22yr old wilt into the present NBA he'd still average 50/25/and 15 blocks a game. Shaq, at his peak, was an extremely weak and very slow player comparatively. Wilt always seemed to prove that Titans once walked the earth.

    TRy Never Poke Larry Bird, Trash Talk Story Told By Legends.....great vid about 88' game 7 semi's Celtics/Hawks. Bird and Dominique went to war in maybe best 4th quarter ever. My 2 fave players in one of my fave games ever. Watch what happens when one of the Hawks decided to literally poke Bird in his chest and talk sh^t...Larry opened fire.
