Just watched all 3 videos ……hugely enjoyable brings back memories, Evening star ,Britannia ,black 5, Class 40. Ended up at Brel Crewe rebuilding traction motors
Mr David Coleman's commentary is a pleasure to listen to. Apart from the films themselves which ae fascinating, he makes his delivery in a gentle, soothing manner which I for one could listen to all day. So different from the raucous vulgarity pumped out by all the TV channels these days.
21:25 this year is my lucky year because I’ve just managed to see blue Peter for the first time of my life and it was also her very first time ever at the Severn valley railway
A very nice video and to "Joem" in-stream was great as I have just brought a Hornby OO scale model to add to my collection of Pre LNER and LNER. Martin. (Thailand)
The only time I’ve ever seen Joem is at layerthorpe in about 1976. There’s still engines in preservation that I’ve not seen, though not many. But plenty I’ve not seen for forty years!
51:29 sir lamiel is coming back on the mainline for 2025 because that loco is back after years away touring the heritage line and 2025 will be the 100th birthday celebration by this locomotive
57:06 it turned out that it was an unhappy day in America because they increased the cost by requiring a diesel to pull the loco because that loco is a fire hazard and not permitted to run in hot conditions
or perhaps it is 1947 by the look at the picture quality - it's just that the commentary said trains were brought off the scrap line to cover for frost bound electric. I don't think trains were being scrapped in 1947
At 4.48, the loco departing has 'Southern' on the tender. Also there are no BR built loco's or coaching stock in sight. There would be plenty of Mark 1s to be seen if it was 1963 footage.
Very nostalgic thanks for uploading this wonderful content.👍🏻
I for one appreciate the coordinated audio fairly well matched up with the film.

Always a sad sight, abandoned railways. Excellent video. Highly enjoyable and very evocative
I lived in Benenden back in the 50s/60s, good memories. Thank you, Patrick, Northamptonshire

Love the prewar soundtrack. Very evocative.
15:48 as of 2024 Carlisle still sees railtours hauled by steam to ever come here
Fantastic to see this archive footage! I've subscribed!
Steam engines in York station just looks WONDERFUL.!🥰🥰!
Had this on video many years ago, was interesting to see it again.
I'll be watching the other episodes soon seeing as I'm self-isolating.😔
Thanks for the archive video totally appreciated and enjoyed. I would say winter 1963!!🚂🚂🚃🚃🚃🚃🇬🇧

Had the tape of this 1987 gem ( hence the music ) with its wonderful 1930s soundtrack. Swindon looks desolate and Paddock Wood was freezing in winter!
Flying Scotsman is now 99 years old and the legend itself
25:15 that’s blackmoor vale now a bluebell railway resident
21:12 this is Oliver Cromwell and she like Britannia are the only two britannias that survive into preservation
51:29 sir lamiel is coming back on the mainline for 2025 because that loco is back after years away touring the heritage line and 2025 will be the 100th birthday celebration by this locomotive
As of today Gordon is currently on display in highley on the seven valley railway
In the good old days, when trains ran for the convenience of the public, and NOT FOR PROFIT !!!!!
Somewhere amongst my old photos I’ve a photo of Barnstaple old Southern Rly wooden shed compete no broken boards Circa 1963
25:29 there’s clan line now operated on the mainline
40:45 sadly Swindon works is no longer here
57:06 it turned out that it was an unhappy day in America because they increased the cost by requiring a diesel to pull the loco because that loco is a fire hazard and not permitted to run in hot conditions
Amazing old video
Hello... you got support for 509 subs from idonesian railways..
Greetings :)
25:20 yeah David shepherd borrowed 92203 black prince and 75029 the green knight
Wurlitzers used to be played in prewar cinemas by organists sat next to the screen.
Flying Scotsman is back in its old number 60103 and in Brunswick green livery as of today
Hawkhurst branch ow closed fo about as long as it was open!
Does anyone know the main music at the start?
I like how the narrator doesn’t say flying Scotsman he says the locomotive real number
was the recreated Iron duke fired on steam coal?
2 seasons at Layerthorpe.!
So...
They gave it a good go then!🧐! Gave it a chance to get going.!🙄🙄🙄! (sarcy🙄)
The winter scene near beginning is 1963 not 1947

Old LSWR engines were scrapped on a siding outside Romsey between 1946 and 1948 including many ancient 4-4-0s.
those emus definitely aren't 1960s

24:42...
