    Sourav advice.
    1. You can't make a plan for the future. Life just happens to you. Make use of every opportunity that vomes your way.
    2. You'll find people who are better at math than you.
    3. There's difference between working under time pressure and not working under time pressure. Doing well in exams and doing well in research is completely different. One may excel at both but you dont need to be good at exams to do well in research.
    4. You do not need to qualify all exams or participate in competitive maths to excel in maths.
    5. Resist the temptation to take highly paid jobs. It will rob you of your freedom. The most important thing in life is to be free.
    6. Creativity is an important thing. it's the main reward you get for being a scientist or mathematician in addition to being free.

He should also add that one should avoid working with predatory math advisors who have never made an A* publication, as you may end up being a slave to their expectations.

It's better to discover than to read it from somewhere. This kind of philosophy this man has! Quite a nice approach. A great mathematician from India.

Wasn't expecting that. Great advice about the freedom to create.
Only thing I would add is that once you take the blue pill (hedgefund job) there's usually no coming back.

It is a mental trap that you really need the kind of money that easy financial channels offer you. Freedom is far more precious. Every single day of life lived with freedom, dignity and happiness is and should be the real prize to aim for.

Study from the pov of research. In India, even today higher education is hamstrung by budget. The govt this time reduced the budget by 16.8% in Higher Education. At the same time issued tax notices worth crores to IITs while giving tax break of 5 years to Patanjali group.

@@sagarbehera there is no problem in giving tax break to patanjali group. The enourmous pharma industry wouldnt have been there if they didnt have a tax holiday of 20 years. Same for IT industry who had a tax holiday for 10 years. The problem is with taxing research grants through gst. Its nonsensical

At that place, people who attended are all academically ambitious rather than driven by financial and superficial ambitions. So if you want to lose your freedom and you think you would find more fulfillment with money over passion, be everyone's guest, but not my guest. This is not a wide audience, please go elsewhere and let the academics be academics.
