Well, I have mixed feelings about this group getting such a plum gig when so many topnotch players are passed over, BUT they certainly do an excellent job, and with a tune that isn't heard often. Any chance of listing the personnel.
Was there a "one-chorus rule" in effect? The (most excellent) trumpeter looked he wanted to "play across" and take another, but remembered at the last minute that he shouldn't.
I totally understand the sentiment, but many of the band members have been in these military groups for years, therefore no one is getting "passed over". In addition, there are requirements beyond just playing well. Doing these bands requires a major life change. That probably eliminates many of the top-notch soloists. But I know that everyone I know of who has entered these bands recently (incl. Airmen of Note and the Commodores) were among the more accomplished players here in NYC.
Don't hear this one too often.Great playing by all...love it!!!
Fantastic!! Ensemble is so tight. They tackled one of Mingus' finger bustin' tunes.
Great stuff!! A killer tune for any instrumentalist to finger.
