Nostalgia overload! Got my first trainset as a child this year (thomas set in the back of the catalog) had that setup on a baseboard. Also got a copy of this catalogue with it. Couldnt tell you how many times i flicked through it cover to cover. Remember all the pages and artwork 30 years later like it was yesterday. Always wanted the midnight freight set and yeoman hoppers....
What strikes me about this era of catalogues is the much smaller range of models compared to previous years. The hobby and Hornby was going through strange times. Hornby was struggling to attract youngsters to the hobby (Thomas the Tank excepted) and not producing good enough models for the serious collectors. Cost was a factor and this would eventually lead to production switching to China.
And that's considering there was a lot of new releases that year, so yes, not much from the 1989 range carrying over, I remember having the 1981 catalogue at the time, and that is colossal compared to this one, and it's not until the late '90s that the catalogues get to a decent size, thanks for the info and insight 🙂👍 and good luck in upcoming bargain hunts 🙂🙂
