    Range weapons got so much dps in sunbreak, put a dps meter on and you'll notice the gunners being always thousands of damages over the melees. Even if I hate them for dealing so much damages without having to put too much effort except aiming for the weak points, it actually makes sense for them to die in 2 hits, or it would just be on god-tier level
    Also I'm far from an expert in range builds, but with the lucent narga arms you get evade window 3, if you struggle it would be a good idea to use it
    And finally, as many others said, the range weapons being squishy was always a thing in the mh games
    I hope everyone enjoys the first title update and good hunts !

    Gunners having low defense is actually a staple of the series. In the old games Gunners and Blademasters had separate armor sets, and the Gunner armor sets always had low defense, kind of annoying. Also some monsters are like 10x easier with certain weapons, i.e Rajang being easier with Greatsword, Zinogre being easier with Longsword, etc.

      I understand that the taking of extra damage is part of the mechanics of the game, and that naturally some weapons will have it easier than others against certain monsters. But to the extent that ranged weapons get shafted on Scorned Magnamalo, still taking 2x damage when building defensively, and dealing less damage to the monsters, I feel melee is incentivized a bit too much on these fights.

      @@TheMrTrails Try playing against all the Arch Tempered monsters from World with any other weapons than longsword, I dare you. Scorned will feel easy compared to the asshole that is AT Nerg. If you think Sunbreaks end game is bad, you'll quickly change your tune when playing World. Because the end game for every monster hunter game has been hard, and bullshit. And we fans love overcoming that end game bullshit to get that tiny power increase that we work so hard for.
      Also, to get an actual challenge from all World quests (not Iceborne) only use high rank gear to beat them. There are some monsters in World that does not appear in Iceborne, and are best experienced if you do them before moving on to Master rank/Iceborne

    Believe it or not this used to be worse in older titles. It might help to use divine blessing 3 instead of defense boost, gunners defense is low to the point that investing in defense boost just won't do much for you. Two other things you can do are: 1, eating the Moxie Dango which gives you one-shot protection, as long as your health is above a certain threshold and 2, taking a healing palico with you. Good luck on your hunts!
    Edit: Forgot one last thing, i've played a bunch of mh games but i still go and pick up some spiribirds, i don't get my hp to maximum and i also don't like doing it, but every map has a route or two that will allow you to grab 4/5 green spiribirds as you make your way to the monster. You'll ''waste'' 30 secs, maybe 1 min, but i'd still rather do that then getting one shot.

  • @smol-man

    Ranged weapons have lower defense because you can attack from a distance and instead of normal defense they have higher elemental defense due to most ranged monster attacks are elemental attacks. Plus defensive builds are not mandatory. You have many ways to avoid damage as a ranged user and ranged user like all hunters need to learn openings and not to get greedy. Also as for the hitzones, ranged weapons are quite accurate if you aim properly which is why most monsters have less good hitzones. Not to mention bow and bowguns have many skills that increases damage by a really good amount and critical range as well. And its not to hard to get all of those skills plus some comfy skills like evade extender. And last but not least ranged weapons are one of the most powerful weapons in Sunbreak especially with all the new stuff bow and bowguns got in rise just really buffed them up majorly

  • @KitsuLeif
    @KitsuLeif 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Scorned Magnamalo is a samurai. You have to fight him in an honorable way (melee). At least, that's what I read from the hitzone damage numbers. Who would bring a gun to a sword fight?

  • @CookedMeat
    @CookedMeat 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Bowguns and bow main from both World and Rise here. Gen 5 balancing is actually much better than any other previous titles. We gunner get to use the same armor perks as melee (meaning we don't need to craft one melee exclusive set and one ranged exclusive set), we also get tons of mobility. HBG in old games used to play like a deployed turret, while Bow can only fire while standing still...
    The hitzones in Rise is definitely horribly designed especially on certain monsters like Kushala, Scorned, Astalos and even normal bazel and normal Narga.
    I think part of the reason why so many people resolved to giving up ranged weapons and only use stickies/pierce is because these two can deal decent damage without caring much about hitzones and aiming.
    Us gunner having a lower defense has been the tradition ever since the first game and it is definitely a questionable design choice as the game gets more and more fast paced. In older game, ranged weapons always have a clearer view of the monsters, because we rarely needs to aim zoomed in. But in Rise for example, there's no damn way we could deal any damage without zoomed in aiming 100% of the time because monster hit zones are much stricter and they wiggles too damn much. By zooming in we were forced to view at a certain angle which hunter covers quarter of the screen, UI covers another quarter, and sometimes even worse where the floor covers half the screen. It gets worse in multiplayer when screen gets more clustered and monster's aoe and agro are more unpredictable.
    Oh and also, you might need to horde some dash juice if you want to play bow.

    Bows tradeoff is extremely good DPS for being squishy. You also use the stamina petalace even though a super long stamina bar isnt that important for your dps compared to your stamina regen. Use the health petalace and get the spiriberd decoration. your complaints about hitzones being bad for bow are hilarious since bow still outdamages all melee weapons. Maybe slot in some evade extender or check out the new bubbly dance evade window 3 bow builds.

    Light bowgun with at least 2 evade window and wyvern counter makes you invincible. Only bad ranged weapon I feel is bow which doesn't have an immediate counter like LBG and HBG qnd feels like a glass cannon if not knowing the Monster's moveset perfectly

    • @andyboston3646
      @andyboston3646 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well Bow does have unlimited counter with dodgebolt, but you need to time it's meaningless 4 frames and it sucks against multi-hits since you travel no distance with it.

  • @Zaney_
    @Zaney_ 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    They absolutely need to slightly nerf ranged weapons and then give us a defense boost instead. One other thing, bow need to use dodge bolt now imo, monsters have too many aoes and 1 shots and that makes it easier to avoid 1. Paird with the lucent nargacuga gloves that give evade window 3 and adranaline rush for damage. it makes for a decent comfier setup to avoid attacks easier.
    One other thing, I would recommend checking hitzones from kiranico because most places don't seem to show changing hitzone like scorned's arms when enraged. Also trying to match elem weaknesses helps too.

      It's not even about the access to counters, it's about the amount of damage being taken when you do get hit in comparison. To be sacrificing offensive flexibility for defense perks here, and still being 2-shot (and still one shot to certain attacks) is a bit overkill. And that same build taking 4 hits to die on a melee weapon, where you also have access to counters that are going to be dealing massive chunks of damage, balance is kinda out the window

    One or twoshoting by endgame monsters in mh playing range weapons is absolutly normal and staple, but in exchange for it ranged weapons have the best clear times (biggest dps) and they can attack in range. More you play the game more you understand the monster movesets more effective the ranged weapons are (also bow and light bow gun have huge mobility and heavy bow gun has a shield in it) the game has not problém with balance at all you just need to get better at the game. Even for me playing Gunlance with massive shield and lots of deffense lots of end game monsters can two or oneshot mě. But thats just price for all those counters and mobility options wev got on sunbreak. Bow is the strongest weapon in the game and was in rise too.

    If I recall correctly, when used correctly, ranged weapons have a prominent history of doing more dps than melee weapons in most Monster Hunter games, eg, HBG consistently being in the top 5 with each iteration and bow being the best dps in base Rise. As such, the generally lower hit zones are, imo, fine. If you’re playing a ranged weapon, it’s paramount to learn how to adjust your positioning relative to the monster’s behavior so that consistently hitting the desired hitzone can be done as consistently as possible, without getting hit. This in tandem with the necessary aiming skills means that ranged weapon users are more severely punished (in all the ways you mentioned in the video) for not understanding and abusing monster knowledge (maybe, it’s obvious, but not it’s necessarily simple or easy). Not trying to bash you or your gameplay, just saying it how it is. That being said...
    ...I would personally like to see a reduction in damage received for ranged weapon users as I don’t want to have to make room for defense in my perk eco, and getting nearly oneshot when I just want to play the weapons I enjoy...hurts. But for now, it comes with the territory. I won’t mind if it makes me a better player in the long run, but it won’t be without pain.

People don't use defensive skills because they will still get nuked after every hit. So they just pump up the damage even higher. But it still makes sense that they are so fragile in the current game. if they had beter defense they would be even more devastating. and with how it is now, they still are all amazingly powerful even with that detriment.
