Inside a Builders House with Unique and Unusual Interior Spaces (House Tour)

  • Berson House is a builders house that challenges the traditional narrative of a home in terms of structure, materiality and purpose. Drawing on the impactful nature of unique and unusual interior spaces, Monster Ideas Architects turns an existing pre-1945 house into a bold, multi-functional home.
    Solidifying its strong approach from the outset, Berson House’s façade stands out in Norman Park with its geometric and demanding street presence. Craig Webster from Monster Ideas Architects overcomes initial barriers with ingenuity, tasked with a steep, challenging site in an uninhabitable state. While the new development was limited to two levels, this was overcome by moving the form up the slope of the site to create a large-scale, five-storey structure.
    As the builders house, the design aspires to do something different and daring. Along with three children’s bedrooms, each with its own ensuite, a wine cellar and an isolated retreat for the parents, each level hosts a range of distinct features, including a two-storey climbing wall, an indoor soccer field and a 20-metre lap pool. The pool is thoughtfully integrated with the lower floors and has been punctuated with beautiful large windows so you can see the pool from the street, the kid's bedrooms and the wine cellar.
    Materiality and furnishings keep with the bold, unorthodox theme of the builders house - contemporary, modern injections dominate alongside darker, moody tones. Tongue & Groove’s natural grade European Oak Timber in a narrow-board style is used for soffit lining and bathroom ceilings, with wider boards installed on the floors. These timber planks are also incorporated into the custom dining table in the wine cellar. The Tongue & Groove timber supports the dark interior by injecting warmth into the space, counterbalancing the coldness of the concrete and the sharpness of the black, charred ironbark timber walls.
    Spatial dimensions within the builders house have been re-engineered to welcome a modern lifestyle. Every part of Berson House is about maximising space and removing corridors. For example, the living, dining, kitchen and terrace are each a quadrant. The home’s elevated position helps connect the house to the surrounding panoramic views of suburbia in one direction and across the city to the west. In a way, the residence becomes transparent, with large windows and doors featured heavily throughout, which also welcome in light and provide ventilation.
    Berson House evokes an experience of the home that is unlike any other. It is simultaneously refined, playful, bold and innovative. This builders house seamlessly re-invents a bygone house into something that is daringly modern and willing to make a statement.

    • @JonoConstantini
      @JonoConstantini ปีที่แล้ว

      Five stories, four-car-garage, 20 m pool and an indoor soccer field - yes, definitely a „normal“ home 😂

    • @LifeofWalk
      @LifeofWalk ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JonoConstantini Normal as in normal-sized and cost home that a normal upper-middle class person is within reach of. It's 5 stories but really meant to be 2 stories, 20m pool but more narrow than a normal pool. Soccer "room" not a soccer "field". If you look at all the rooms they are relatively small as you hear people saying in the comments but they are so well designed that they make such great use of the space.
      For instance the wine cellar can only hold 2 chairs side by side but the pool window was a great idea because it made the room look much bigger. A really wonderfully designed house

    • @tijedemetal
      @tijedemetal ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s not a question of the size of the house. Just the cost of the custom windows and doors this house has is probably equivalent to the cost of a ‘’normal’’ sized home for an upper middle class family in a developed country. It’s much cheaper to build a big pool on flat land than to incorporate it on a slope IN THE HOUSE. This house is beautifully designed but has probably cost a fortune. 💸💸💸

    Bravo a toi Aurélien pour avoir entrepris un tel projet. Certainement une maison (- que dis-je une residence!) à couper le souffle! C'est probablement une réalisation rare et merci d'en avoir fait profité tes amis (et amis d'amis) et maintenant tout le monde par cette vidéo. Excellent travail de visite en mouvement, avec prises de vue, de montage et contribution des acteurs (combien de prises avec les enfants?) ainsi que bande son et générique bien léché. On pourra regretter le léger sentiment du roi seul dans son château (où est passé madame?) et qu'avec un ciel bleu (pourtant pas rare à Brisbane) l'effet n'en serait que plus impactant! Bon, on ne va pas parler de bilan carbone cette fois, mais j'espère revoir à l'avenir vos prochaines production, ayant eu la chance d'admirer l'ndéniable talent la beauté et le style d'une précédente maison. À suivre..

    A beautifully designed building. But comes across as very cold and sterile. I could not raise a family there and call it a home.
    Has a very high end private airport lounge feeling. Or an expensive airbnb rental designed for those incredible Instagram photos.
    It could very well become a home if they put something as simple as family photos on the walls, vibrant art, (not just a nature poster on the wall of the mini football room).
    But with that said it's still a beautiful design and a wonderful example of how people can have totally different tastes but still create great things.

    Okay, seriously? Am I the only one who thinks that every LP video has people raving about how amazing the house is and how it's the best one on the channel? I mean, sure, some of them are pretty cool, but they all kind of blend together after a while. Personally, I prefer homes that are warm, inviting, and have a special vibe, like Casa Rosa. But this one? Ugh. It just feels so cold and masculine with its giant size, pool with a view of the wine cellar, and all that black. Who wants to play football in a room like that anyway? It's hard to put my finger on it, but it just feels lifeless and lacking in energy. Like, seriously bad vibes coming from it.

      That room seems ideal for futsal practice. Also, it could be repurposed at any time: Put some carpet on the floor and a billiard table and you have a billiards room. Have a bare concrete floor, paint the walls black, have some wall attachments for chains and handcuffs, and you have a vivid imagination.

    It is hard to understand why someone with such financial resources and expertise in construction would build such a house. The house is wasteful in its use of natural resources, particularly the expansive use of energy intensive concrete.
    Also, the house layout appears to waste a considerable amount of space with too many stairs and hallways, special purpose rooms, and rooms that have space for the sake of space. The kitchen would be a headache to cook in, walking between the fridge, sink, stovetop, oven, and counter top.
    The house is not “cost effective” or efficient, but mostly ostentatious. It lacks the feeling of a true home.
