Batara Gat Baya, hailing from Agusan Del Norte, Philippines, is a remarkable individual with bloodlines from the Manobo and Mamanua tribes. He is known as a Babaylan or Baylan, embodying the roles of a traditional healer and mediator between the spiritual and physical realms. From a young age, he was called by the spirits, leading him to his path as a spiritual practitioner.
Living an alternative lifestyle deeply rooted in his indigenous heritage and cultural practices, Batara Gat Baya dedicates himself to preserving and promoting the rich cultural legacy of his people. His work as a traditional healer and Spirit mediator allows him to bridge the gap between ancient traditions and contemporary times.
As one of the founders of TRIBMAKA, a Diwataan (Animism) group, Batara Gat Baya actively engages in rekindling pre-colonial spirituality. The organization focuses on reviving and experiencing the spiritual practices of the past.
Batara Gat Baya has gained expertise in various areas, including:
GABAYBAYIN: He has developed a unique reading process that involves interpreting messages from spirit guides and ancestor spirits using the ancient Philippine script called Baybayin.
HAYAHAY Meditation: He advocates for a Filipino-based meditation technique that honors the inner self, soul, and physical body, promoting balance and self-understanding.
Traditional Bamboo Flute Player: Batara Gat Baya showcases his musical talents by playing the traditional bamboo flute, preserving the melodic heritage of his ancestors.
Diwata Sculptor: He expresses his artistic skills through sculpting, particularly focusing on creating representations of the Diwatas, divine beings in Philippine mythology.
Batara Gat Baya firmly believes in the importance of embracing foreign and modern knowledge while never neglecting one's cultural origins. His life's work serves as a testament to the preservation, revitalization, and celebration of indigenous wisdom and practices.
