"I just went through training and they give me this whole ass ship?" Funny enough, in the lore the Helldivers grew out of a private police force. So yeah, barely passing simple training then getting military equipment and endless funding with zero oversight, is accurate. 😂

My favorite part is the entire video. Also that Hasan is a helldiver that actually never learned to dive, I dont think he ever dived even once outside the training where you are forced to dive under the gatling sentrys LMAO. So he's all Hell and no diver. Truly a hero, a true unfortunate son, a true patriot of managed democracy.

It's bad satire. Apart from the tone and costuming, the story never goes out of its way to explain why humanity is wrong. As far as the average audience member is concerned, the bugs are aggressive and humanity is justified in fighting them. The arguments people make to claim that this is wrong border on conspiracy theories - "the bugs didn't send the meteor because it's unrealistic" doesn't make sense in a movie where you literally see spaceships crowded in orbit being shot down by bug plasma. It's an ineptly made satire because it provides no clues for the audience to pick up on other than "everyone's dressed like Nazis", which makes most people just assume the movie is pro-Nazi.
Helldivers goes out of its way to show how fucked up Super Earth is - you can't really just vote, you just fill out a preference sheet and the algorithm "takes care of it". The bugs are farmed for space oil, the cyborgs are slaves and the automatons just want to free them. Helldivers does what Starship Troopers was TRYING to do and does it competently.
There are certain pieces of media, Starship Troopers included, that certain conservatives and reactionary minded people make their business to not understand the message of on a fundamental level

the cuts with the loud beep edited in are very very painful to listen to and comes through on my monitor way louder than the rest of the video. Love the edits otherwise but would really love if you could make a less piercing transition edit noise.

Gotta say this game doesn't even look remotely interesting to me. Probably because I've seen through the satirical messaging and know full well that more than 50% won't catch it and, no matter how much the designers point at the idea that the humans are the "bad guys" in all of this, it will go over a lot of people's heads because "this is what freedom looks like!" is said enough times. Unless the explicitly say it. Trigger words are far more important to people than actually thinking, at least in America. Also probably because considering we're living in a post Jan 6 world, this looks far more realistic now then in the late 90s. Satire is cute and funny until reality has taken on the form of the satire, then it stops being funny. But hey, maybe I'm just reading too much into it? I mean more guns then people would be a bad sign towards something like this if it were happening... oh wait.

the game is very fun but I still cant help but be disgusted every time they mention managed democracy. (it feels like a teacher giving kids the choice between an ice cream party and a pizza party, no option for burgers and hot dogs even if that's what the people actually want)
