Back in the 70's Kenworths like the one on Smokey and the bandit had the 3406 series Caterpillar diesel engines. 14.6 L. 6 cyl. with 400 to 500 h.p. 1450 to 1800 ft.lb torque. Some had the 3408 series which was an 8 cyl. with something like 450 to 500 hp and 2000+ lb.ft torque. By the way the engine sounds on the Bandit movie I would say it was the 6 cyl. version.
