    tip: can’t find decor that isn’t half of your paycheck? check aquarium isles. I use fake plants, and I can get tons of those little artificial plants for like a $1. I just dig them into substrate as you would in an aquarium. And they always come in all different types of designs and styles, usually for reptile decor your only choices are desert or forest. What if my skink wants a moon-themed terrarium, huh? Well that’s pretty easily achievable when I go to the aquarium isle at my local pet store, or even just search it up on Amazon.

      Also check out hobby stores as well…. I’ve found crazy cheap cholla wood, Mopani wood, really expensive rocks, etc. for almost nothing (I got 6 really nice pieces of cholla wood the other day for less than $2.30. They also tend to have more sturdy fake plants if you’ve got strong climbers as well esp. if you get them on sale!

      Reptilian Garden i just really appreciate SOO much how it’s not a numbers game with you, and how you are an advocate for that. More people need to see pet tubers like this!! I personally only have one bearded dragon, but I keep him in a 125 gal and I’d like to say he lives his best life lol. I’d rather see spoiled reptiles with the best possible care then a whole rack of animals just to say “feeding my 50+ pets!!!” for views and click bait. I appreciate what you’re doing so much and keep up the great work!

    I find windows quite a nuisance for this kind of place. It makes creating a photoperiod troublesome because you have to compete with the sun (or block the window). Mostly I want for my animal's day to be at my night, so I can see it while I'm home (for diurnal animals) Also if I want to skip, start earlier or accelerate a hibernation or reprodutive season it can be more difficult with sunlight reaching the enclosure, as the animal use cues from the photoperiod to regulate this kind of behaviour.

      I agree for day/night cycle just use a outlet timer

    • @xfatalxflawx
      @xfatalxflawx 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Your issue with that reasoning is that barometric pressure and humidity also vary throughout the day with the sun, and the animals are still sensitive to those changes. Following the natural photoperiod of their natural environment is ideal, and natural sunlight is so much better at helping that.

      Be careful not to put them very close to the window.

      I did my reptile animal room an Alice & Wonderland theme room (That’s always been meaningful for me & if you look up artificial boxwood panels & how cool ppl decorate homes, cafes, hotels, etc. I have a neon sign & I’ll store infused plants in in there as well… lol it always kind of adds to the look (I have digital thermometer/temp. on ever tank & enclosure & it kind of goes with my collection & weird clocks & I decorated my industrial racks with greenery & used cheap red Christmas string lights I got for my nocturnal animals & if feels like I’m just out in natural somewhere with all of my animals which I kind of love 😊 I’m kind of OcD & even some floating shelves w/decor mixed w/products I store in cheap IKEA jars with labels or some floating w/books on different species it seems like it’s all meant to be in a certain place.
      (I also have live plants either on the tops or hanging from the ceilings next to the windows as well). I haven’t seen anything else like it, but so far it works & seems to make my addiction & also the things in the room all in order as well… oddly. Maybe I’m just a weirdo tho!

    I raise the humidity to a level that is fine for my least humidity needing animal and then just use the basic humidity raising tactics relative to species. And provide a fan/ good air circulation. And my other strategies are which animals can go along the base board heat. Who faces the window. But I’m stuck on arrangement still.

    • @bodhithomasina4991
      @bodhithomasina4991 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree! I also think your the only TH-camr I’ve ever seen addressing not having overstocked tanks all next to each other & the stress it causes the animals. There are so many different options, from using inexpensive paper or doing fancier solutions I find that my animals (including my fish) seem more content & there is a huge difference in how active they are in their own enclosures compared to before as well. And some of the backgrounds or whatever you use to kind of enclose them in you can use for easy stimulation as well.. well it adds more climbing space, ive used wire & hung plants upside down from the top which some of my animals love.. or cutting pieces of bamboo into small pieces to do part of my day gecko enclosure.. or even those plastic knitting squares you get at craft stores for 40cents.. it really helps a lot of my animals climb from crabs to geckos fo spiders (as long as evertbing you’re using isn’t toxic for that animal) I play around & kind of keep adding to things that they like & go off that to make their enclosures better over time 😊

    I just have a BP for the moment, but in two years bf and I are moving into a bigger place. A reptile room (guest room and gaming room) will have a reptile wall. Or maybe I'll place the animals. In the living room. Great tips anyway, they'll sure be helpful when the time comes.

      I have my little office & craft area in one area of my room… it’s the most relaxing room in the house, makes me feel creative & even start doing yoga & other things in there. Of course on the ground are all of my rescue bunnies so they like to help with anything I do for an added bonus. Seems like a good gaming space esp. since do many are nocturnal & that’s when I get going with my headphones. It’s would give you a lot more insight into their shenanigans when you’re normally sleeping! 😊

    • @bodhithomasina4991
      @bodhithomasina4991 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I had to “bunny proof” mine so run them all in protected plastic & then learned from tanks they got in metal boxes (meant for outside wiring) mounting on the walls… or if they are on racks I’ll cut a home in the back of a safe container & run a lot of them through there as well…. Worst case scenario get a cheap water hose & cut it open.. you can find all your cords & use tape or other things to make it blend in & a hose should work for the entire room

  • @lexieurch

    I’ve been thinking about getting a crested gecko but my room only gets in the mid to high 60s in the winter and not sure if that’s too cold. I’ve seen some of those nano heat emitters would you recommend that on a thermostat or would you still recommend a space heater? And what space heaters do you recommend/use?

    • @reptiliangarden
      @reptiliangarden  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lexie U It’s okay to use a heat emitter as long as it is monitored by a thermostat. As for space heaters, I would also choose one where you can set it at a certain temperature to keep it regulated.

    • @gabbyloveshorses17
      @gabbyloveshorses17 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Definitely don’t recommend a heat pad like the person below suggested. Since cresties climb the glass they could get seriously burned if with a thermostat. I would probably go with a heat emitter.

    • @bodhithomasina4991
      @bodhithomasina4991 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Make sure you get a Digital Tenperature controller with the heating pad! Esp. w/cresties so you can set the temp. vs. it going to the “ambient temperature”. You can also get inexpensive packs of digital thermometer & humidifiers as well to always check.. some even connect to your phone & will alert you if it goes up or down past what you set. I keep those mainly on my Axolotl tanks, but they’re really handy! Also sometimes moving them to a different area of the room when they get colder. I’ve seen people do shelving towards the top of the ceiling for a lot of aboreal tanks or if they’re breeders & makes since if heat rises & they’re all synced up!
