      I enjoyed re-watching the prequels partly because of the memes. You see so many prequel memes, but to see Ewan McGregor actually say 'hello there' in the movies is brilliant. The light saber duels are the best too. The duel between qui gon, Obi and mual is fantastic, the music, the choreography, it's all there. Just ignore jar jar or make fun of him, then you can enjoy the prequels.

    I am really happy I saw prequels when I was young. I just enjoyed everything about them, even Jar Jar, I have never hated him and I was surprised when I found out some people did. I think hating him is like mass hysteria, its contagious. Well, anyway, Episode1 has some of my favorite characters so they are absolutely not forgetfull, I remember them really well and I will always miss Qui-Gon Jinn. I am just rewatching all Star Wars movies and yesterday watched ep1 and I still love it! So its dull to summarize that "everybody" hated them or that they gave us "nothing we wanted to know". I sucked every bit of information from the preguel movies, I could. Ep1 gives us huge amount of information about the order of the galaxy, origins of R2 and 3PO, about jedi high council and over all how jedis get their training through master/padawan relations.

    • @natalieportmanfan1817
      @natalieportmanfan1817 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Star Wars prequels are the best Star Wars, much more development of the mythology, the lore, the Sith, the Jedi order, the Padawan, the plots of Palpatine to bring down the Republic, to raise a huge army to annihilate the Jedi and to keep Anakin with him as an apprentice, much more exploration of planets, new environments and new civilizations, real fights, anthological scenes, great characters, beautiful and so exceptional music and they connect perfectly with the original movies.

    It’s sad to think that only NOW people accept the Prequel trilogy over the Sequel Trilogy. After all the mocking and ridicule the actors and George Lucas got through the years, are now all for nothing. While I found Episodes 1 & 2 to be lukewarm, but still better than whatever we got from Disney, especially giving us Duel of the Fates, Episode 3 felt like a real Star Wars prequel.

      1) Acting in the sequel trilogy was exponentially better.
      2) The prequel trilogy too heavily relied on CGI and not enough practical effects. For god sake all of the Clone Troopers were CGI! Sequels struck a perfect balance of CGI mixed with practical effects making it the most visually stunning.
      3) The sequels at least had all beloved characters/actors that were appreciated for nostalgia, including Han, Luke, and Leia.
      4) The prequels had Jar Jar and midichlorians. The sequels didn’t.
      Conclusion: Therefore, with the exception of the Last Jedi, the sequels were... comparable, to *arguably* better.

    Episode 1 was actually better than I remembered. Not the best Star Wars at all, but fine enough. All the CGI of the prequels though really hurts it on rewatch because the original trilogy made decades earlier looks so much better with practical effects.
    Episode 2 was easily the worst of the prequels. The last act is great, but it's such a slog and chore to get through.
    Everyone else is usually pretty spot on with regards to Episodes 3-6. After watching 7 though, I guess my marathon ended. I couldn't bring myself to rewatch 8 and 9 again. It's better to just think of Star Wars as a 6 part series.

      1: Qui Gon, young Kenobi, Darth Maul, the Pod Race, the battle against Darth Maul (including the music), & I didn't mind the political story as it sets a clever foundation for how Chancellor Palpatine came to be and would eventually be granted emergency power within the Senate in the second film.
      2: Jango Fett & young Boba Fett, introduction of the Clones including the mystery behind it, Count Dooku, Anakin & Kenobi vs Dooku + then Yoda vs Dooku, the unfolding plot that directly led to Chancellor Palpatine being granted emergency powers, Dooku delivering the early Death Star plans to Darth Sidious, & the arena scene was... okay, I guess.
      3. Order 66, Anakin vs Kenobi, Kenobi vs Grievous, Windu + other Jedi vs Palpatine, Anakin ending Dooku, & Palpatine's sith story to Anakin, the opening space battle. I did really like the Yoda vs Palpatine battle too, but I also felt it could have been a bit better.

    I don't see what's so different with the prequels and the original trilogy, they're all cheesy space operas, and all have flaws. The main difference I think are the digital special effects which don't have the charm of practical effects, and the fact that the prequel trilogy is a tragedy, has a diffenret tone, and doesn't have a three act structure like the original trilogy.
    People just like to nitpick and criticize everything, you could find a lot of stupid shit in the original trilogy as well but people don't want to talk about it.

    • @JimyBonham
      @JimyBonham 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      People does that with "Return of the Jedi" (Ewoks, and Leia being related to luke), but the original trilogy has "The Empire Strikes Back", it's really hard to find something bad about that master piece.

      All the movies might be flawed and have some cheesiness to them, but the Original trilogy has much less of the flaws and cheese. Episodes IV-VI had a much more mature and serious tone to them. I also agree that the digital effects didn't have the charm of the practical effects. Everything felt real in the original trilogy because, well, it all pretty much was. That's the main difference.

      Star Wars' effects weren't anything revolutionary in 1977, but I agree that they are better than CGI. THe prequels' effects were also good for the time, they just haven't aged well. Of course the prequels relied on the originals, they are *prequels* to the original story, that's the point. I don't think it ruins anything, I think it succeeds in deepening the movie universe, like the EU did in other media. Most of the characters are far from bland, with the exception of Padme. Fucking Palaptine? Yoda? Obi-Wan? Even Anakin has his moments in Episode III.

    • @ElGeecho
      @ElGeecho 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Star Wars' effects absolutely were revolutionary in 1977. That was one of the main things it was known for at the time.
      And really, I have to say that I think the prequels watered down the universe. I hated how Anakin became the center of the entire galaxy. When every thing in the galaxy was so focused on Anakin, it made the Star Wars universe seem smaller. Vader was just a henchman in A New Hope.

The main problem with it is that it focuses too much on world building and not enough on story telling or character development. I like the prequels because there's so much lore in them. The original trilogy doesn't explain much about the universe. Why is the empire evil? Darth Vader is ruthless yes, but it's never explained why Luke "has no love" for the empire. I also love how political it is, it's basically a sci-fi version of Caesar's powergrab. I love moveis and series where I can really go deep into the story and the old trilogy feels a bit shallow in that regard.

      Not anything like the rise of Caesar, which was an actual complicated political story with multiple viewpoints. Star Wars has simple ideas of good and evil, you can't really compare it in a meaningful way to a conundrum like the rise of Caesar.

    I was kind of shocked when I found out that almost everyone hates the podracing scene. I thought that it was awesome and I loved the video games based on those scenes as well. Also...Obi-wan and Qui-gon were great...and I thought Mace WIndu was awesome too. I feel like Mace Windu/SamJackson could have had a pretty kick-ass solo movie.

      Ok, thanks everyone, this was VERY informative. After reading this comment chain I've learned that most people can't be trusted to give any movie a properly informed rating. Right here we have a summary of more or less every possible opinion on the quality of the podracing scene.
      Without you guys I would've kept wondering for the rest of my life how people can be so radically split on their opinion about the quality of a movie. It's simple: it's mostly irrational, personal bias.
      For anyone who cares: I think the podracing is one of the best racing scenes of all movie history.

    For the most part, the younger generation got a lot more natural exposure to Star Wars, due to two Clone Wars shows (2003 and 2008), a whole slew of video games that were really good (Republic Commando, classic Battlefront I & II, KOTOR, Jedi Outcast/Academy) and books coming out during the 2000s, many of which added to the plots surrounding the prequels and really helped the feel of all 3 episodes.

    I'm surprised it took you until 2005 and Revenge of the Sith to figure out the actor for Palpatine, Ian McDirmad is the same guy from 1983's Return of the Jedi. In the summer of 1999, the internet community was buzzing about how awesome it was to have McDirmad back in the same role, but younger since he wore old age make up in 1983. He was one of the few bright spots in Phantom Menace.
