You cannot tell me that everybody in this video would have travelled this year to celebrate new yam festival. Have you considered travel cost for a family even one person,childcare, work and annual leave, health reasons. This is a good way of keeping the Igbo culture alive even in a foreign land and also introducing the children to their culture for identity sake. Please stop confusing yourself and everyone and take a stand, not complain about two opposite things at a time. Others countries celebrate their culture here e.g My Indian friends celebrate Diwali here they don’t have to travel to India Rest Biko.

How is it that when it comes to suffering The Aniomas bear the brunt with their cousins in the East, but when the time of festivities, they are isolated? We shouldn't do anything under Igbo umbrella without recognizing our brothers outside SE. Thereafter, we should also have a plate for and call out the rest of the Nigerian community (other tribes put together), and another for the rest of Africa. It's an extension of love as we are still part of Nigeria. When we leave Nigeria, as it seems the only way forward, then we re-arrange.

Now, they choose to celebrate their new yam festival wherever they are domicile because of lack of essential amenities, security, and bad governance of their homeland. We can't run away from ourselves. We are what we are, and we must defend it, or our identity will be lost!

However, let’s not forget that some can’t make it home because of xyz reasons i.e. immigration restrictions, health related problems etc and for others (with settled/citizenship status), it’s purely by choice to remain in their host countries to promote their culture. Regardless of where we are, home or abroad, our Igbo culture/heritage should be promoted at all cost.
