I thank my older sister for the safety of both of them and her friend as she immediately went into survival mode and stopped them from running away with the crowds, risking being trampled or running towards a second bomb.
the delay of them leaving the arena probably also stopped them from seeing the graphic sights and preventing any visual PTSD.

This was hard to watch for personal reasons. I was hit with a IED in april, 2004.
I will never forget like they haven't. I also felt no pain at first and cant even describe how violent and powerful it was. The real trauma is now is moving forward. Atleast for me tha anxiety of anything like fireworks, thunder or even lighting a grill is a just a panic nightmare all over again. It has been 19 years and I still have complications from the blast trauma and shrapnel wounds.
Like many veterans that suffered this fate, the tramatic brain injury and blast injuries is still a learn as we go.
I feel time has been the biggest influence to my recovery next to having some of the worlds best Doctors for treatment.
    Wish them the best.

I live 3 miles away from the beirut explosion, even tho thats how har i am my entire home turned into a mess and windows were broken and before we felt the shockwave or heard the sound the entire building shook as if an earthquake was happening and that was terrifying. No one in beirut and its surrounding areas slept that night. Everyone thought it was an attack and everyone was scared. I hope no one experiences it

The sadest thing is, once you have had that buzz of being seconds from death, especially if you go through that for a regular amount of time, life becomes very two dimensional, it takes a lot to fully engage like when you're fully engaged in saving yourself/ the ones around you, and that's if you ever can.
Hats off to these guys for sure and I hope the depression stays at bay.

never experienced this obv, but the part about accepting that you're never going to be who you wanted to be because of a disability ... congenitally disabled people love to say that disabled people can do everything, just differently, but it's plain untrue. there are so many dreams I've had to abandon. so many

And I thought my escape from death was devastating… it’s nothing compared to what these men faced. And the soldier, yes, he absolutely is a hero for being good enough at his job to bring so many of his fellow warriors home.
