I’ve had iPhones for years and just got this message for the first time. I’m not using any more than I usually do.
My phone does that, we've tried a lot and it will work for about 5 mins then shut off again and say it's too hot even tho it's cold. IDK what to do
might be internal hardware issue, best to take it to Apple certified repair to have diagnostic run on it

Putting it in front of your A/C vent or fan helps it cool down fast. Cause the moisture of the fridge or freezer might mess it up if your phone isn’t water resistant. But most newer IPhones are water resistant.
To remove the message “iPhone needs to cool down before you can use it” simply smash the screen against ANY hard surface repeatedly. This will work no matter the conditions or EVEN what version iPhone you have 🤔😮.

It could be the more updates you apply as well as aging battery the phone has to work harder and harder therefore getting hot and triggers this warning my iPhone 11 can only cope with basic apps no more gaming lags and gets hot

I have my apps on my iPhone 7 layed out in order to my own preference and jet black wallpaper, if I selected Reset All Settings, I know it doesn't delete any of my apps but would it alter the rows and layout that the apps are in and wallpaper.

Can't unless you want your phone to blow up
Take the phone out of its case if you have one especially whilst charging or using the hotspot for video.. The phone is metal to dissipate heat and the case keeps the heat in.
