    This is a great video...by the way what happened to those Traxtion orange diesel locomotives that were hauling the shosholoza meyl a few years back...their horns sounded really lovely

      @EverythingTrains95  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Oh you are talking about the C30s GEs I hate those locomotives 😂😂 their horns are thunderous 🔥
      I believe they were on lease they might be doing some work somewhere in Africa..

    • @thabobrian6134
      @thabobrian6134 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Ohh I see...but why do you hate them....those we're some strong workhorses...cause I noticed that only one was hauling the whole train as opposed to the 34 and 35G locomotives where two were needed to haul the train....

      @@thabobrian6134 no their horns I meant, excuse me...
      Yes very true they were very powerful locomotives I mean at the end of the day they are GEs, GE locomotives are strong in general.... The problem with our 34s and 35s is that their lifespan is over... 40 years of work is no child's play.

    I should definitely have a look at this train for a trip. Much more affordable than The Blue Train. Although it cannot be compared class wise the way to get to Cape Town and the price makes this more worth it. I wonder how the Tourist class looks like though as well if a return trip are more than double the cost than a single trip.

    why do long distance trains come on way slower than commuter trains? is it a question of weight or are the braking systems different all together

    • @EverythingTrains95
      @EverythingTrains95  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks for that question. Though I'm a bit confused at "Come on slower" are you referring to them entering the station? Or them being slower everywhere? I'll try and answer this to the best of my knowledge.
      Yes you are right most commuter trains have different braking systems compared to long distance trains... Remember long distance trains are being pulled by a locomotive so in this case you find two different braking systems in one train or as a driver you have to brake two different moving objects at one go. For example when coming to a halt as a driver you put on the brakes to the train (coaches) then you apply brakes to your locomotive that's pulling the train which can be a challenge if you had to come in at full speed. As to the commuter trains it's a single brake most of them are advanced. And also stations have speed restrictions under 30km/h.
      Also long distance trains in SA are not allowed to travel at high speed they can only go as far as under 90km/h (including the metro trains) because the gauges are small compared to other gauges in other countries... But Gautrain can go above 120km/h because they are using a much bigger gauge (standard gauge) and also they are using the lines all by themselves without any traffic hence they are faster.

    Was there any locomotive change or did it go straight to cape with the current locomotives

    • @EverythingTrains95
      @EverythingTrains95  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The locomotive change only took place in Beaufort West when the 6E1s took over
