Eisenhower, MacArthur and Patton were the military leaders who shut the march down. Marine Corps General Smedley Butler was one of the leaders of the bonus marches. President Hoover was JP Morgans man who was put in office, for among other reasons, to pass the Federal Reserve Act...and Morgan was one of the people behind the attempted fascist coup against FDR where they wanted to use Smedley Butler and 500,000 veterans (who wouldnt of known what they were being used for) to pull the coup, but General Butler thwarted the plan. Butler was a bad ass who was there for the servicemembers, vets and american people like a champ until the end. Prescot Bush, father of George Bush Sr was also part of the planned coup. Cross refference it.
Smedly Butler had a totally different out look on the US Government later in his life. It’s actually really interesting and as a vet I agree with a lot of things he was quoted saying
McArthur is the least competent American General Hero. He attacked suffering veterans, then left his men to suffer when he escaped untouched then his poor leadership which had him removed in Korea. A history of failures.
Here's my question - Had MacArthur, Eisenhower and Patton not behaved patently dishonorably, and been called upon to answer for these actions - would they have been the men they were post-1941? Sometimes, it's necessary to make a mistake to learn a lesson. On occasion, honor can come from dishonor. As Damon Bloom told me, "Good decisions come from experience. Experience, well, that comes from bad decisions."
Im a german history student and had to make a presentation about an important event in Washington DC between 1929-1939. I found out about the bonus army and was shocked about those events and that nobody I know ever heard of it. Military troops in the capital used against veterans of world war 1 because they wanted to get payed for their service? Sounds like fantasy

Before I conclude the subject of public justice, I cannot omit to mention the obligations this Country is under, to that _meritorious_ Class of veteran Non-commissioned Officers and Privates, who have been discharged…on an annual pension for life, their peculiar sufferings, their singular merits and claims to that provision need only be known, to interest all the feelings of _humanity_ in their behalf: nothing but a punctual payment of their annual allowance can rescue them from the most complicated misery, and nothing could be a more melancholy and distressing sight, than to behold those who have shed their blood or lost their limbs in the service of their Country, without a shelter, without a friend, and without the means of obtaining any of the necessaries or comforts of Life; compelled to beg their daily bread from door to door! suffer me to recommend those of this description, belonging to your State, to the warmest patronage of your Excellency and your Legislature. -President George Washington, Commander of the Continental Army
@Frances Christine My point was Tiananmen square was nothing compare to this. The tank man photo alone proves it. The tank man himself actually lived through the event. Students on the Tiananmen square was given time and patience and even negotiations, which the student leader didn't respect. Also students got hostile and violent later in the protest. Soldiers were actually killed by some students. Whereas in the bonus Army event, the army was protesting in peace and government just murdered a square full of people without notice. All this just because the US government don't want to pay up. Yet, media is so censored and biased that Americans don't know the bonus army but hate CCP cuz of tiananmen square.
This should be in ALL public school and college history books. And it should be a topic of discussion in the classroom.
currently learning about it 😩✋🏼
It's just like China covers up the 98 protest. This is just some sort of a cycle, eventually commis and caps will be no differences.

You are assuming they had a change of mind?
But is there proof?
Only in the change of their actions as I cannot divine their souls or intentions. However, YMMV.
They wrecked three countries for the people who know call their children’s children racist!
Did you know about this chapter of American history?
