When I first watched Ymir’s backstory I didn’t put together that it was out side the walls. I was just very confused the whole time. I’m very thankful that the basement was not spoiled for me because I was very dumb
I for some reaason thought there were some savage societies outside of the walls, nothing more than tribes, and Ymir came from that sort of society. Maybe I subconciously adopted this idea because of the wildlings in Game of Thrones lmao. But also because of the backstory in the very first episode which I took at face value. The city within the walls being the last bastion of civilization amidst a savage wasteland just made sense to me. Looking back it's kind of ridiculous how I assumed that giving they are shown to have advanced weaponry and stuff.

51:15 In the manga there's that scene that got cut from the anime where Eren makes Annie smile after bragging that he used her technique on Jean and then Annie offers to teach him it. Plus we have the flashback in the Close Combat episode where Eren and Annie are sparring again. From all that I think it's made pretty obvious that Annie was his main sparring partner and the reason he got so good at hand to hand combat.
23:30 Reiner's quick thinking allows him to come up with "i can't read it" but he still reveals his knowledge of what herring is which gives him away too.
These videos arent commended enough for how much effort clearly goes into them, which I can say for the editing alone, not to mention aspects like how divulged into the materiel entirely you'd have to be to give this level of commentary. Just like the story its about, I often go back into these videos and catch more details on rewatch I missed originally, which goes to show how even compact these casual watch-along commentaries are. Its extremely nice just to see this level of care going into discussing one of the most well written stories of our day while simultaneously being comedic with a nice energy between its cohosts. It was a exceptionally long wait between this video and the last because these videos crave so much anticipation, but I imagine most are truly happy just because of your dedication to continuing the video series and cant wait to watch along until the end.
I believe the titans eating people in the ending are actually "the massacre of Lago" or whatever they called it. The one they talk about in Zeke's flashbacks in s04. the story is basically the same as in the ending like when they say something like "some people ran away but the eldian empire put titans in their way, and when the sun rose the titans rose" and whatever
It definitely could be, but imo they probably just look similar, cause it would be weird if the test of the ed depicted ancient events but then one was only from a couple years ago
Also: I'm a little surprised you didn't touch at all on the "I'll wrap you up in [that scarf] again" line. Being familiar with rom-com tropes, that line highly resembles (i.e. I'd argue it outright is) an indirect confession the likes of "I'll do X for you next year/every day" or "Let's do X next year", what with the implication that they'll be together in the future for the indirect confessor to do what they're promising-- in rom-coms, when it's used, it's an effective way of satisfying readers with a "progress" moment that's functionally identical in impression to a proper confession but doesn't actually have the effect of one. Here? It was an especially strong compensation for Isayama not being comfortable enough at the time to draw kissing. That authorial hesitance managed to create a scene that I think is stronger than the alternative where they just kiss would have been, because it's a distinctive character moment for Eren who manages to refuse to accept his apparent fate with a flailing that manages to generate a serendipitous occurrence for them-- a "ray of hope" in the absolute hell they were in at that moment (there's another moment like that in the underground cavern when Rod Reiss is transforming). It really fits him, too, and I think it retains narrative flow better than having a proper kiss (assuming that everything else stayed the same). The start of the corresponding chapter is definitely meant to dig at Eren's insecurity about his ineptitude in protecting the people he cares about; that said, the fact that Carla points out-- in this order-- that he's a boy and, and that he should be protecting Mikasa once in a while, gives it a minor but intriguing dimension of masculinity insecurity while also rubbing in his powerlessness. Of course, _that's_ not going to be specifically focused on, but I like the additional texture it gives. Even though it makes unclear certain character attributes (Eren's attraction to Mikasa probably gets the worst of the lack of clarity), I generally really like how understated matters like romance or sexuality _generally_ are in AoT. It's fitting for the narrative, but it also means that there's no detours for romance antics-- something that would really mess with the tone and breakneck pace of the narrative. In its actual execution, it's a very dense and focused work that doesn't meander much in general.
This is a great analysis and I agree with what you said. We had talked about it a bit in our recording originally, but I kind of rambled too much so I decided not to include it- but you're absolutely right that Eren's words/promise about the scarf are absolutely an affirmation of Mikasa's feelings. A lot of people take the scene as him rejecting her, but it's really the opposite. For Eren, who doesn't ordinarily express his feelings, his promise to her was probably the kindest thing he had said to her up to that point. It is genuinely a very sweet moment, especially taking into consideration that he had NO expectation to survive- but he still stood up and punched Dina to protect Mikasa anyways.
I hope you guys continue this series soon its really cool hearing little details that I've somehow missed after my many rewatches. Plus these videos are supprisingly relaxing.
It might be a stretch, but maybe the fact that Sasha is a girl and they already captured the female titan made her more trustworthy considering from what they know shifters kinda look like their titan form. She also just saved Kaya from the titans, which wouldn’t be something a shifter would do unless u got a Reiner personality disorder.

One of the worst changes for Season 2 was removing the scene with connie and Hange where Hange reflects upon her experiments and his mom. Overall my favourite season from WIT era but some changes can be uhhhhh. Well season 3 is the main problem for adaptation issues.
8:38 it is also 2 lines converging at once point, both symbolizing the Coordinate which was the center of the restorationists plans and also how Ymir was the center at which all paths met.

i came down to comment and just realized i'm listening to all the older ones again after your season 3 p1 video is out, you guys are funny (i need something to listen to while i draw and you guys are fantastic, really funny and entertaining even on a second listen) anyways. you guys talking around 6:00 or so in about how you thought the beast titan was just like that, that's another one of those things where when the manga was out was really popular for people to believe. i think people also thought zeke might be erwins dad? haha.
wait oh my god. i just have so many stupid little anecdotes from 2013-17 aot fandom. so back on tumblr everyone was crazy for jean/marco as a pairing and marco in general that kind of dead nice boy usually does really well in popularity in fanfic-oriented type niche communities. and then because he was so incredibly popular despite his small role (this was before it was revealed r/b/a killed him) he also had a ton of detractors who hated him for being a bit character who was super popular. so i don't know if this interview was real or not but marco haters would parade around some interview where isayama was asked about marco and he APPARENTLY responded with "who". marco detractors often made jokes about how isayama didn't remember who marco is and would probably be shocked by how popular he is in the western fandom and then those people were furious when it was revealed marco was actually pretty important in a sense. hilarious stuff to watch play out. i was a teenager back in these days, and obviously a lot of aot fans in general were as well so the unfiltered and heavily invested online arguing was great, it's really funny to look back on. aot is still pretty popular with teens, it's interesting to see what kind of arguments they're having now versus the ones i saw my peers having back in the day.
I can explain why Ymir’s titan looks similar to the pure titan: Its to avoid confusion in the audience and helps us link how ymir got the titan powers in the first place, we later find out that eating a titan shifter can give you that shifters titan. If they looked different it would be hard to make a link.
- 13:55 I'm pretty sure the term "children of the forest" is lifted from the _A Song of Ice and Fire_ series-- it's pretty clean how the name was borrowed for a wholly different purpose that happens to be germane to the central theme of this story. -I think fan scanlators at the time were taking the piss with the whole of the "Eren getting hard" subplot, in that they kept phrasing it with a suggestive bent. - 50:13 I always read the conversation as having a more "fatal" bent. It's not so much about Eren running away and imperiling himself as much as it is the fact that he ends up "away" at all, as if that-- and his friends chasing after him in vain-- is his and their destiny. You'll hopefully get to it, but that idea is emphasized in Mikasa's Lost Girls novel/manga/OVA episode (with the OVA deviations hammering the "fate" idea even harder). - 53:34 "Why are they not just talking about it?" That's the million dollar question of this entire story. - 1:05:54 For me, this sequence and the similar one in chapter 138, have a vague "Berserk" feeling to them-- inasmuch as everyone's in an unadulterated hell scenario while being inescapably surrounded by monsters. I could also be making that connection because of the knowledge that Isayama inadvertently wrote Casca's being "stupidly brave" into Mikasa. - 1:07:05 I don't know if it was the _original_ intent, but there was an alternate take of the panel that corresponds to this shot in the manga, where Armin makes a shit-eating grin. It was dubbed "Gesumin", at the time. - 1:10:30 I like this picture. Everywhere it, or a variant of it (e.g. the first shot of the S2 ED) is featured, it's presented as the historical/mythical event where Ymir makes a contract with the "Devil of All Earth", but it ends up actually being _prophecy_ about Eren (a "devil" of Paradis who ends up becoming _the_ enemy of the entire world he seeks to destroy) and Ymir (Fritz). I interpreted the apple as representing knowledge (according to the understanding of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil being sometimes interpreted as an apple), specifically the knowledge that Eren gives to her that she's only human and not a slave nor a god. It possibly wasn't originally intended as such, but it ending up being used for that was slick.
You're definitely right about the meaning behind the scene in episode 33. Sometimes it's just fun to poke fun at the show, there definitely is thematic meaning behind Eren being separated from everyone else. Ironically I think that the goofy scene they added of Eren comically fighting a bunch of bullies and destroying the town square hurt that thesis, rather than improve on it. The Berserk parallel is really good, I hadn't considered that before. Speaking of Berserk parallels, the anime adaptation of Eren and Mikasa's "what am I to you" scene specifically reminded me of the Bonfire of Dreams scene.
54:05 I imagine that the reason they can’t transform is because they’re still considered inside of their titans by Ymir. They heal while they’re transformed, but when they’re injured while in their titans and cut out, they have to heal before they’re considered not in Titan form by Ymir.
We had originally talked about that in this video, but I ended up cutting it because the video was already extremely long. It is really dumb, but the reason we decided was the most likely explanation is that it's probably very difficult for horses to navigate during nighttime with limited visibility. Later on, when they do the night expedition to get to Shiganshina, they have the new technology of glowing stones they got from the Reiss cave and that's what lets them travel at night. So this is probably the reason why, but yeah, still not a great explanation.

crazy how season 1 skipped 2 and then another 3 years within 4 episodes and then covered another one or two months and season 2 is literally just 2 days and the first day is the same day as the last arc of season 1 like the beginning of season 2 with the titans appearing and miche fighting them is happening at the same time as eren fighting annie in stohess and i guess ymir helping out at trost would have meant she would have to reveal that she is a titan which would not only have put her in danger but would basically guarantee she would be seperated from krista
regarding the sasha being a messenger plothole, when mike hears titan while the gang is being watched he says out loud that the cadets aren't under suspicion anymore. if i remember correctly
For the small amount of expeditions during the first 100 years, while it's a plot hole messup, it could be addressed as not having ODM gear until recently. If they went to the island with 1600/1700s tech it would take awhile to industrialize. And going out with just horses would be considerably harder and probably more about stealth than having actual fights with Titans.
1:06:36 They seemed like kind of friends since Bertolt was the only one who was objectively not a Jerk to him when they trained but their relationship seemed to have soured a bit because Reiner always insults Bertolt (probably because Bertolt never talks back) and the hardcore soldier roleplay really annoyed Bertolt.
I like how uprising and RTS flow together in the next season but there was no reason to not include CRUCIAL SCENES -Hange reaction when she finds out she’s been experimenting on people -The start of both historia and Erwin’s arcs for season 3 -everyone injured on the top of the wall to show how bad the scouts got it at the end Maybe they didn’t have time to end to show all that stuff in the little time the last episode has? It’s just frustrating when some other episodes in season are drawn out

Kind of, it's weird and complicated. Fourthcast mentioned it but I'll elaborate a bit. YouSeeBigGirl itself is divided into two parts. The first half, the build up, was an original song (later, in S3, it would go on to become Apple Seed like you said). The second half of the song (the part used during the climax of the Reiner/Bert reveal) is a remix/rendition of Vogel im Kafig from the season 1 soundtrack. Essentially, YouSeeBigGirl is a mashup between Apple Seed and Vogel im Kafig. The second half of YouSeeBigGirl, including Vogel im Kafig, hasn't appeared in the show since Warrior. The actual track itself hasn't come back at all, even though you're correct that Apple Seed has played.

One of my least favorite Openings musically. But pretty cool visually again. Subtexts for first few eps probably woulda been like.... fuckin invasion of the walls. Then when they get to Utgard, they can just do Battle of Utgard castle. Then when Erens captured. Because of the first subtext title. They can do.....idfk "The Scouts Strike Back" there. Original. Oh then you do invasion of wall rose right after I typed that.... The Reiner "Have the walls been breached" line has a few interpretations I'd say. Since he might actually have some concern because of his solider persona at this point.... but yeah it could also be a thing where the walls being broken snapped him out of that for a second and and he asks a genuine question. Either way, his facial expression is well done in conveying utter confusion and turmoil. Not really knowing what's going on, and what to do next. Season 2 has a lot of horror I notice. It's the most horrific AoT gets. The Miche scene, the horse walk at night scene, even the final eps where Armins just aimlessly swinging his sword at the titan while protecting Jean. It's kinda fucked, but in a good way. I'd say up till the special it doesn't get like this at all. Endings cool. Visuals neat. Music not as good as other ones. Enough said. Yeah, as a season opener it's strong. But so are every AoT season opener so it's unfortunate, that it's probably my 2nd least favorite episode 1 out of the bunch. Ranking them is weird. But in terms of depth and what's achieved I'd guess I'd go like..... Other Side of the Wall > To You 2000 Years From Now > The Town Where Everything Began > Judgement (Though I like this one more then others. Depth wise? It isn't as strong) > Beast Titan > Smoke Signal. All good though. Miche is probably weaker then Mikasa. That's just official stuff for military. Miche did have that nose though hollly. Na na, just own up to the Southern People got annoying acescents allegations. Don't hide from it in the form of 'they kinda overblowing it bro. IDK' like NOPE. Just say it, you don't like they're acescents. Oh I didn't even know that was Connie's dad. Holy shit that's crazy..... It actually kinda makes that so much weirder for me now. The Side thing is the point of the season is what a lot would say. Plot takes a back seat, Characters are in forefront. And if ya look at it like that. Then episode 2 with Sasha and such is a important episode for investment. Cus people start caring about the characters more because S2 did this. LMAOOO. Could ya look at Reiners gaslighting to Connie as a parallel to Erens in Dawn of Humanity when he Gaslights Historia. Man I felt that target at my ass when you guys said if someone wants to debunk us go ahead. Jeez bruh. Cmon. Don't gotta do me like that lmao. With that said.... Sasha was just attacked, almost died, is visibly frightened, and out of all of them seems like the least likely candidate. But even ignoring those obvious signs, I would say that entrusting the message to her and it not getting to Hanje would be a guarantee that she's a traitor. And so she'd have 0 reason to do it strategically. And if she did do it, they've found the traitor lol. So there's my 2 cents. Yeah it's so funny both Paradis and Marley guessed all the exact names for each titan lmao. Ymir is an endearing character. Ya know that scene S3P1 where they're partying and having a good time, and it kinda makes you glad that these characters have gotten to this point, and are interacting in such a delightful way to each other. Have such good Chemistry, ect. I do wish we got some Ymir moments similar to that pre S2. Woulda been kinda cool. So remember when I said the colossal titans mechanics are ambiguous and how it works is just through sheer interpretation? Well here's my ted talk bitch lmao. The nuking thing is interesting. Not only is it likely that he can control if he goes nuke or not. I also think it's implied he can control the range of his nuke based on the Eren and Reiner fight later this season.... in which he does that while in his titan. So it may also be implied the colossal can nuke while titan. And he doesn't need to just transform to nuke. So it's.... interesting. And it's all kinda weird. It doesn't really contradict at any point in the series so it's fine. But it's interesting how the most iconic titan is the one that had the least exposition. Interestingly enough, the scouts should've spotted wherever their footprints are right? Because they do it in S4P1 to identify that Pieke and Galliard are in Paradis. But I mean, we never know where the Cart is in S2 so maybe not. Yeah just understands Reiner. Forgive? IDK... maybe. It's possible, but I can't elaborate on why here. Hey man, that endearing to the cast thing I was talking about with Ymir earlier is perfectly shown in that Hannes flashback. Makes you kinda like Hannes a bit more before he ends up dying. The healing thing is interesting. Because you can also do what I call a pre-heal. Meaning that, you basically went through the process of healing already. And you just need to try restoring it, and it'll instantly come back. Because you already kinda went through the steps to do that, but you want to keep a limb gone. Ya know what I mean? Does that make sense? So S4P1 Eren is an example of this. His leg instantly restores. Because he pre-healed. Whereas in S2. He's still healing and has to wait. The Ymir recontextulizing of this is interesting. Since I think this wasn't planned and is just a establishment of titan powers that feels reminiscing of a Shonen. The Ymir thing puts some trench in the presumed idea of how it's supposed to work. Since she can't instantly create titans. But is slow on healing their limbs. HOWEVER, It is still consistent. The argument would just be that creating authentic humans is harder then just creating titans. This isn't even a stretch cus it takes some time for Ymir to rebuild Zeke later on as well cus he got half his body blown off. It's just a consistent thing that molding humans is harder then molding whole titans. As weird as it sounds. You guys talking about Ymir losing faith in Eren based on his childish demeaner made me think about a hypothetical where Final Season Eren and this Ymir interact. It'd be so strange and weird. This battle in the end of S2 is so hard to go over from an analytical standpoint since it's so big, and like....everywhere. AoT action scenes do really fucking well. And this one is really good much like everything else. It's just weird to go over. And I'm almost never confident in it just due to how... unorganized, big, and bloated everything feels in it. Soooooooooooo 2 interesting things with finale, and how Eren uses the founder. So 1, interacting with Dina can still be seen as kinda convenient..... but maybe not depending on how you interpret a thing that I can't elaborate on here. And 2, it's interesting that when Eren doesn't have contact with Dina. He still actually manages to use the founder if ya notice. He actually sends a titan out at Reiner and Bert without touching Dina. You might think it's a hole but it kinda implies that it acts as a battery when coming in contact with the founder. And hilariously... there's some continuity with this later. But I also can't explain that here. Ehhh in fairness Erwins smile adds intrigue and mystery as to why he'd find such joy at a discovery, and it serves as a cliffhanger as we will find that out in S3P1. As for every other change, you already vaguely know my stance. Fuck em. Not needed. Yawn. No Regrets huh.... Yeah I prefer Lost Girls. But this is cool I guess. But I mean OVAs in general are just..... idk. Season 2 is strong for sure. I think it's better then S3P1.... maybe even S3P2. But All 3 parts to the Final Season slap it tho. Great vid again. Fun watching. Next one's gonna be spicy I think so this'll be fun lmao.

Sorry for not responding sooner, I wanted to wait until I had a chance to give you a proper reply. That's a good point about Sasha lmao. If the message went missing it would very obviously put her under suspicion Regarding the nuke mechanics, I always assumed that the "nuke" in s2e7 was just a result of him hitting the ground with so much force. But I guess you're right it wouldn't have generated such a large explosion. So yeah that's weird The footprints thing in s4 is weird. iirc it gets mentioned but we never actually see those footprints, or rather Pieck was just ASSUMING that's how Eren knew she was there. I actually think it might be possible that Pieck was wrong, and that the reason Eren knew she was there was because he saw it happen in his future memories. Possibly? I have also noticed the healing requirements thing you mentioned though i hadn't been able to put it into words until now. I know what you're talking about with the continuity mistake in regards to the Founder's need to touch royal blood. That has always bothered me. I legitimately think Isayama may have made a mistake there. Thanks again for leaving such an in depth comment. I do read the entire thing every time even if I can't respond to every point
@@invaderzz To keep comment short and easy. I'll comment on one thing. The founder non interaction point may not be a continuity mistake. I think it works as you touch someone, and you still have some of the users ability after contact. But it just runs out. Like a battery. That may seem like a stretch but... and I did this a few times in my comment. When I say "I can't elaborate here" I'm referring to manga spoilers. Cus I assume this is an anime only video, so anime onlies watch it. But... let's just say another thing like this happens in the manga. And the explanation would be the same there. Showing a line of consistency may exist.
I really liked that episode but they seem to really dislike how Bertolt's character was so briefly characterized so I can see people like them not liking that episode. Also the episode right after it called perfect game is widely considered one of the best episodes in the series.

These videos arent commended enough for how much effort clearly goes into them, which I can say for the editing alone, not to mention aspects like how divulged into the materiel entirely you'd have to be to give this level of commentary. Just like the story its about, I often go back into these videos and catch more details on rewatch I missed originally, which goes to show how even compact these casual watch-along commentaries are. Its extremely nice just to see this level of care going into discussing one of the most well written stories of our day while simultaneously being comedic with a nice energy between its cohosts. It was a exceptionally long wait between this video and the last because these videos crave so much anticipation, but I imagine most are truly happy just because of your dedication to continuing the video series and cant wait to watch along until the end.

I believe the titans eating people in the ending are actually "the massacre of Lago" or whatever they called it. The one they talk about in Zeke's flashbacks in s04. the story is basically the same as in the ending like when they say something like "some people ran away but the eldian empire put titans in their way, and when the sun rose the titans rose" and whatever
It definitely could be, but imo they probably just look similar, cause it would be weird if the test of the ed depicted ancient events but then one was only from a couple years ago
Also: I'm a little surprised you didn't touch at all on the "I'll wrap you up in [that scarf] again" line. Being familiar with rom-com tropes, that line highly resembles (i.e. I'd argue it outright is) an indirect confession the likes of "I'll do X for you next year/every day" or "Let's do X next year", what with the implication that they'll be together in the future for the indirect confessor to do what they're promising-- in rom-coms, when it's used, it's an effective way of satisfying readers with a "progress" moment that's functionally identical in impression to a proper confession but doesn't actually have the effect of one.
Here? It was an especially strong compensation for Isayama not being comfortable enough at the time to draw kissing. That authorial hesitance managed to create a scene that I think is stronger than the alternative where they just kiss would have been, because it's a distinctive character moment for Eren who manages to refuse to accept his apparent fate with a flailing that manages to generate a serendipitous occurrence for them-- a "ray of hope" in the absolute hell they were in at that moment (there's another moment like that in the underground cavern when Rod Reiss is transforming). It really fits him, too, and I think it retains narrative flow better than having a proper kiss (assuming that everything else stayed the same).
The start of the corresponding chapter is definitely meant to dig at Eren's insecurity about his ineptitude in protecting the people he cares about; that said, the fact that Carla points out-- in this order-- that he's a boy and, and that he should be protecting Mikasa once in a while, gives it a minor but intriguing dimension of masculinity insecurity while also rubbing in his powerlessness. Of course, _that's_ not going to be specifically focused on, but I like the additional texture it gives.
Even though it makes unclear certain character attributes (Eren's attraction to Mikasa probably gets the worst of the lack of clarity), I generally really like how understated matters like romance or sexuality _generally_ are in AoT. It's fitting for the narrative, but it also means that there's no detours for romance antics-- something that would really mess with the tone and breakneck pace of the narrative. In its actual execution, it's a very dense and focused work that doesn't meander much in general.
This is a great analysis and I agree with what you said. We had talked about it a bit in our recording originally, but I kind of rambled too much so I decided not to include it- but you're absolutely right that Eren's words/promise about the scarf are absolutely an affirmation of Mikasa's feelings. A lot of people take the scene as him rejecting her, but it's really the opposite. For Eren, who doesn't ordinarily express his feelings, his promise to her was probably the kindest thing he had said to her up to that point. It is genuinely a very sweet moment, especially taking into consideration that he had NO expectation to survive- but he still stood up and punched Dina to protect Mikasa anyways.
I hope you guys continue this series soon its really cool hearing little details that I've somehow missed after my many rewatches. Plus these videos are supprisingly relaxing.

It might be a stretch, but maybe the fact that Sasha is a girl and they already captured the female titan made her more trustworthy considering from what they know shifters kinda look like their titan form. She also just saved Kaya from the titans, which wouldn’t be something a shifter would do unless u got a Reiner personality disorder.

One of the worst changes for Season 2 was removing the scene with connie and Hange where Hange reflects upon her experiments and his mom. Overall my favourite season from WIT era but some changes can be uhhhhh. Well season 3 is the main problem for adaptation issues.

wait oh my god. i just have so many stupid little anecdotes from 2013-17 aot fandom. so back on tumblr everyone was crazy for jean/marco as a pairing and marco in general that kind of dead nice boy usually does really well in popularity in fanfic-oriented type niche communities. and then because he was so incredibly popular despite his small role (this was before it was revealed r/b/a killed him) he also had a ton of detractors who hated him for being a bit character who was super popular.
so i don't know if this interview was real or not but marco haters would parade around some interview where isayama was asked about marco and he APPARENTLY responded with "who". marco detractors often made jokes about how isayama didn't remember who marco is and would probably be shocked by how popular he is in the western fandom
and then those people were furious when it was revealed marco was actually pretty important in a sense. hilarious stuff to watch play out. i was a teenager back in these days, and obviously a lot of aot fans in general were as well so the unfiltered and heavily invested online arguing was great, it's really funny to look back on.
aot is still pretty popular with teens, it's interesting to see what kind of arguments they're having now versus the ones i saw my peers having back in the day.

I can explain why Ymir’s titan looks similar to the pure titan: Its to avoid confusion in the audience and helps us link how ymir got the titan powers in the first place, we later find out that eating a titan shifter can give you that shifters titan. If they looked different it would be hard to make a link.
- 13:55 I'm pretty sure the term "children of the forest" is lifted from the _A Song of Ice and Fire_ series-- it's pretty clean how the name was borrowed for a wholly different purpose that happens to be germane to the central theme of this story.
-I think fan scanlators at the time were taking the piss with the whole of the "Eren getting hard" subplot, in that they kept phrasing it with a suggestive bent.
- 50:13 I always read the conversation as having a more "fatal" bent. It's not so much about Eren running away and imperiling himself as much as it is the fact that he ends up "away" at all, as if that-- and his friends chasing after him in vain-- is his and their destiny. You'll hopefully get to it, but that idea is emphasized in Mikasa's Lost Girls novel/manga/OVA episode (with the OVA deviations hammering the "fate" idea even harder).

Everywhere it, or a variant of it (e.g. the first shot of the S2 ED) is featured, it's presented as the historical/mythical event where Ymir makes a contract with the "Devil of All Earth", but it ends up actually being _prophecy_ about Eren (a "devil" of Paradis who ends up becoming _the_ enemy of the entire world he seeks to destroy) and Ymir (Fritz). I interpreted the apple as representing knowledge (according to the understanding of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil being sometimes interpreted as an apple), specifically the knowledge that Eren gives to her that she's only human and not a slave nor a god. It possibly wasn't originally intended as such, but it ending up being used for that was slick.

You're definitely right about the meaning behind the scene in episode 33. Sometimes it's just fun to poke fun at the show, there definitely is thematic meaning behind Eren being separated from everyone else. Ironically I think that the goofy scene they added of Eren comically fighting a bunch of bullies and destroying the town square hurt that thesis, rather than improve on it.
The Berserk parallel is really good, I hadn't considered that before. Speaking of Berserk parallels, the anime adaptation of Eren and Mikasa's "what am I to you" scene specifically reminded me of the Bonfire of Dreams scene.
54:05 I imagine that the reason they can’t transform is because they’re still considered inside of their titans by Ymir. They heal while they’re transformed, but when they’re injured while in their titans and cut out, they have to heal before they’re considered not in Titan form by Ymir.
You ever think about how titans dont move at night, yet every scout commander doesn’t plan the expeditions at night when titan activity is at a low?
We had originally talked about that in this video, but I ended up cutting it because the video was already extremely long. It is really dumb, but the reason we decided was the most likely explanation is that it's probably very difficult for horses to navigate during nighttime with limited visibility.
Later on, when they do the night expedition to get to Shiganshina, they have the new technology of glowing stones they got from the Reiss cave and that's what lets them travel at night. So this is probably the reason why, but yeah, still not a great explanation.

For the small amount of expeditions during the first 100 years, while it's a plot hole messup, it could be addressed as not having ODM gear until recently. If they went to the island with 1600/1700s tech it would take awhile to industrialize. And going out with just horses would be considerably harder and probably more about stealth than having actual fights with Titans.

I like how uprising and RTS flow together in the next season but there was no reason to not include CRUCIAL SCENES

Kind of, it's weird and complicated. Fourthcast mentioned it but I'll elaborate a bit. YouSeeBigGirl itself is divided into two parts. The first half, the build up, was an original song (later, in S3, it would go on to become Apple Seed like you said). The second half of the song (the part used during the climax of the Reiner/Bert reveal) is a remix/rendition of Vogel im Kafig from the season 1 soundtrack. Essentially, YouSeeBigGirl is a mashup between Apple Seed and Vogel im Kafig. The second half of YouSeeBigGirl, including Vogel im Kafig, hasn't appeared in the show since Warrior. The actual track itself hasn't come back at all, even though you're correct that Apple Seed has played.

One of my least favorite Openings musically. But pretty cool visually again.
Subtexts for first few eps probably woulda been like.... fuckin invasion of the walls. Then when they get to Utgard, they can just do Battle of Utgard castle. Then when Erens captured. Because of the first subtext title. They can do.....idfk "The Scouts Strike Back" there. Original.

The Reiner "Have the walls been breached" line has a few interpretations I'd say. Since he might actually have some concern because of his solider persona at this point.... but yeah it could also be a thing where the walls being broken snapped him out of that for a second and and he asks a genuine question. Either way, his facial expression is well done in conveying utter confusion and turmoil. Not really knowing what's going on, and what to do next.
Season 2 has a lot of horror I notice. It's the most horrific AoT gets. The Miche scene, the horse walk at night scene, even the final eps where Armins just aimlessly swinging his sword at the titan while protecting Jean. It's kinda fucked, but in a good way. I'd say up till the special it doesn't get like this at all.
Endings cool. Visuals neat. Music not as good as other ones. Enough said.
Yeah, as a season opener it's strong. But so are every AoT season opener so it's unfortunate, that it's probably my 2nd least favorite episode 1 out of the bunch. Ranking them is weird. But in terms of depth and what's achieved I'd guess I'd go like..... Other Side of the Wall > To You 2000 Years From Now > The Town Where Everything Began > Judgement (Though I like this one more then others. Depth wise? It isn't as strong) > Beast Titan > Smoke Signal.

Ymir is an endearing character. Ya know that scene S3P1 where they're partying and having a good time, and it kinda makes you glad that these characters have gotten to this point, and are interacting in such a delightful way to each other. Have such good Chemistry, ect. I do wish we got some Ymir moments similar to that pre S2. Woulda been kinda cool.
So remember when I said the colossal titans mechanics are ambiguous and how it works is just through sheer interpretation? Well here's my ted talk bitch lmao. The nuking thing is interesting. Not only is it likely that he can control if he goes nuke or not. I also think it's implied he can control the range of his nuke based on the Eren and Reiner fight later this season.... in which he does that while in his titan. So it may also be implied the colossal can nuke while titan. And he doesn't need to just transform to nuke. So it's.... interesting. And it's all kinda weird. It doesn't really contradict at any point in the series so it's fine. But it's interesting how the most iconic titan is the one that had the least exposition.
Interestingly enough, the scouts should've spotted wherever their footprints are right? Because they do it in S4P1 to identify that Pieke and Galliard are in Paradis. But I mean, we never know where the Cart is in S2 so maybe not.
Yeah just understands Reiner. Forgive? IDK... maybe. It's possible, but I can't elaborate on why here.
Hey man, that endearing to the cast thing I was talking about with Ymir earlier is perfectly shown in that Hannes flashback. Makes you kinda like Hannes a bit more before he ends up dying.
The healing thing is interesting. Because you can also do what I call a pre-heal. Meaning that, you basically went through the process of healing already. And you just need to try restoring it, and it'll instantly come back. Because you already kinda went through the steps to do that, but you want to keep a limb gone. Ya know what I mean? Does that make sense? So S4P1 Eren is an example of this. His leg instantly restores. Because he pre-healed. Whereas in S2. He's still healing and has to wait. The Ymir recontextulizing of this is interesting. Since I think this wasn't planned and is just a establishment of titan powers that feels reminiscing of a Shonen. The Ymir thing puts some trench in the presumed idea of how it's supposed to work. Since she can't instantly create titans. But is slow on healing their limbs. HOWEVER, It is still consistent. The argument would just be that creating authentic humans is harder then just creating titans. This isn't even a stretch cus it takes some time for Ymir to rebuild Zeke later on as well cus he got half his body blown off. It's just a consistent thing that molding humans is harder then molding whole titans. As weird as it sounds.
You guys talking about Ymir losing faith in Eren based on his childish demeaner made me think about a hypothetical where Final Season Eren and this Ymir interact. It'd be so strange and weird.
This battle in the end of S2 is so hard to go over from an analytical standpoint since it's so big, and like....everywhere. AoT action scenes do really fucking well. And this one is really good much like everything else. It's just weird to go over. And I'm almost never confident in it just due to how... unorganized, big, and bloated everything feels in it.
Soooooooooooo 2 interesting things with finale, and how Eren uses the founder. So 1, interacting with Dina can still be seen as kinda convenient..... but maybe not depending on how you interpret a thing that I can't elaborate on here. And 2, it's interesting that when Eren doesn't have contact with Dina. He still actually manages to use the founder if ya notice. He actually sends a titan out at Reiner and Bert without touching Dina. You might think it's a hole but it kinda implies that it acts as a battery when coming in contact with the founder. And hilariously... there's some continuity with this later. But I also can't explain that here.
Ehhh in fairness Erwins smile adds intrigue and mystery as to why he'd find such joy at a discovery, and it serves as a cliffhanger as we will find that out in S3P1. As for every other change, you already vaguely know my stance. Fuck em. Not needed. Yawn.

Regarding the nuke mechanics, I always assumed that the "nuke" in s2e7 was just a result of him hitting the ground with so much force. But I guess you're right it wouldn't have generated such a large explosion. So yeah that's weird
The footprints thing in s4 is weird. iirc it gets mentioned but we never actually see those footprints, or rather Pieck was just ASSUMING that's how Eren knew she was there. I actually think it might be possible that Pieck was wrong, and that the reason Eren knew she was there was because he saw it happen in his future memories. Possibly?

I know what you're talking about with the continuity mistake in regards to the Founder's need to touch royal blood. That has always bothered me. I legitimately think Isayama may have made a mistake there.

The founder non interaction point may not be a continuity mistake. I think it works as you touch someone, and you still have some of the users ability after contact. But it just runs out. Like a battery.
That may seem like a stretch but... and I did this a few times in my comment. When I say "I can't elaborate here" I'm referring to manga spoilers. Cus I assume this is an anime only video, so anime onlies watch it. But... let's just say another thing like this happens in the manga. And the explanation would be the same there. Showing a line of consistency may exist.

I really liked that episode but they seem to really dislike how Bertolt's character was so briefly characterized so I can see people like them not liking that episode. Also the episode right after it called perfect game is widely considered one of the best episodes in the series.
