So, how do YOU feel about the album? And if you liked it in the past, has your opinion changed over the years… for better OR worse? Let me know that, and anything else that makes sense, in the comments below.

Yeah still like it today.Saw them on this tour in the U.K.
In fact they filmed the Anarchy video at the Queens Hall in Leeds at the first ever thrash festival sponsored by Kerrang. They played the song twice at the gig.

Christmas on Earth.. at the old tram shed! with Overkill, Kreator, Cro-Mags and some other dudes i can't recall! Was a great day. Despite the lack of catering options...1 hot dog stall for 6000 moshers 🤬

Yep, it was love from the first listen on. Megadeth is in my top 3 bands (with Kiss and Crashdiet) and this is one of the albums I can't live without. A perfect ten and very unique. No other album has a production like this. Weird but perfect for the songs. The remix is a disaster. Hook in mouth, In my darkest hour and Mary jane are monumental tracks. Fantastic!

love the album i was 13 when i got it had just moved to the redwoods i was isolated yet to make new friends the drug store in the next town had a cassette section i found many good finds. i love Jeff Young's modulated distortion sound. I had a heavy hair metal past and got into thrash around 10 or 11 it felt like i was growing up that album kinda felt like next level along with Peace Sells and Killing.

I dig the album as it is riff charged. Killer solos throughout…also like yourself not visited as much. As my favorites are the first two. Samuelson Poland were an amazing rhythm section. Love Killing is my Business the most here. Great vid as usual my man. 🤘🤩🤘

This was the first Megadeth album i heard on cassette. My friend popped into into the car. Love this and the first two albums! I agree w/ you on Anarchy & Hook in mouth. But if following albums kept the feel of the first 3, id have been much happier. And when they brought Poland back years later i was digging that too. Rust in peace is kool. And Marty can play but i didnt think he was a good fit overall. Good review thou👍

I totally understand why people have a bit of a downer on this album and I'm not a fan of the Pistols cover but the nostalgia is huge for me and it's my favourite by them even though I think Rust in Peace is the better album.

I bought this one on vinyl when it frist came out but our local release version had no inner sleeve. I hadn't listened to Megadeth before, so I immediatly loved the insturmental track... actually the whole A Side. It was my favorite Megadeth record for quite some time, took me a couple of years to learn 'Anarchy in the U.K.' was a cover version of the Pistols song... hey! I was 14 years old and never heard about the Pistol before.
Anyways, a year later I found out about "Peace Sells" and liked it quite a bit more. And in 1990 the Metal Hammer's "Thrash special" found its way into my hands. Learned all the Megadeth story until ten. I followed Megadeth until "Youthanasia", then lost all interest in the band. I kept the original CDs until a couple of years ago, during lockdown, cause I was jobless and broke.
I still like "So Far, So Good..." but more because of nostalgia than anything. Nice review, Matt! :)

Hi Matt! Just found your channel! I pretty much agree with your entire take. Great album, but rust and peace probably better pound for pound, but still rocks 🤘

Have to mention if anybody has not heard ex Megadeth Dave Jr.'s and ex Megadeth Jeff Young's band kings of thrash I highly recommend watching some on you tube.

I always liked it, especially In My Darkest Hour. But I didn’t get into Megadeth until Peace Sells. I’m weird, I actually like Countdown To Extinction a little better than Rust In Peace, which I know is blasphemous to the die hards.

A great tour with Warlock and Sanctuary. Not my favorite album by them mostly due to the production.

I thought it was a letdown when it came out, and just revisited it recently after deciades of avoiding it. Nope, it doesn't sound any better in 2023.

  • @markgreene1162

This may sound blasphemous but this album is my second favorite behind rust in peace. Some bands but not all have a black sheep in their discography and this is definitely Megadeths black sheep. It's just deferent sounds with the ruff around the edges production. Dave Sr. was at his peak with creative weirdness. This was my third Megadeth record I'd every owned and It still slays every time I listen to it. But I hate that damn Mustiane remix with those brass horns, just horrible. Try to avoid the Dave Mustiane remix it trash.

I liked it, but it was a dip in quality. I find myself listening to killing, peace sells, and rust, as my go to megadeth albums

If more of Megadeth was as aggressive as Set the World Afire i would go back and listen to them. This album could of dropped Anarchy,502 and Hook in Mouth and would of made a solid EP.

This is easily the weakest of their classic era. Still a good album, but the stuff surrounding it is just too damn good. If i recall, this was the height of the bands drug use which maybe played a factor and why it felt like a step back after peace sells. That, and Jeff Young imo is the weakest lead player they've ever had. Chris, Marty, and Kiko are on another stratosphere of skill.
