Bun (Brad Carlson) is the epitome of a CLASS ACT. It takes a real human being, a true professional, to come and speak to young kids who have NO IDEA WHO HE IS...But...yet, he communicated and told them his story, his life and the TRUTH. This is must viewing for others in the "Music Biz" who need to come back down to earth and realize fame is fleeting. He is so brutally honest and so funny. I could listen to Bun read the phone book. His Chicago "accent" is the kicker...."and all that STUFF." Love it!
@@mcgrath274 That's not fair, quite a few of those kids started waving hands around when he asked if they heard of Cheap Trick. They can jam all the Lady Gaga and Billie Eilish they want, provided I'm not around, so long as they know their roots.
Bun is the man! It’s a damn shame he was forced to go after his former band mates through the courts. Thankfully he prevailed and is still legally a member of Cheap Trick. Was great to see them all together again at the RRHOF. Keep rockin’ Bun E!
I saw them in the summer of 78 when I was but 16. I already had their first two lps. First three are their best. Plucked one of Nielsen's guitar picks off the arena floor. Had some zany cartoon drawings on it. Wish I still had it. Not many people I knew knew who these guys were. Felt I was ahead of the curve. Great memories. Nice guy. Honest.
Met him at Marrys Place in downtown Rockford where he plays regularly with the Monday Night Band. He is such a down to earth nice guy. It's amazing to meet one of your idles, and he's just "one of the guys". Very cool dude.
I hope all these kids got to see Bun E. inducted into the rock and roll hall of fame. He is so laid back and unassuming, you would never know that he is a world-class drummer that was every bit the rock star as any of their heroes - just in a different time. Seeing him being inducted would probably make this presentation seem surreal. Carlos knocked this out of the park. Just like all his work - well done.
It's fun to watch the kids slowly come to the realization of who Bun E. is. When he mentioned "Surrender" there were two or three that were like, "whoa, he did THAT song?!"
I went to Lincoln with Brad and Ric. Great wonderful guys. Wish the whole school could have witnessed this in the excellent auditorium. Nice kids there . ❤️
Bun E. Carlos, One down to earth guy. I really enjoyed this. Gave me insight of what its like and what it takes. The best is, hes just a regular guy. Thanks Bun
Yep I really enjoyed this Brad. ;) I was younger than you when i first heard Surrender. 1978 I was 10. You guys have ruled my music world ever since. So cool to see you inspiring kids/young musicians in a different way. Now in ending my career in a cover band. Two nights ago I and surrender for the first time live. Everyone loved it....it was second nature. Like breathing...you guys are part of my music dna. ;) thank you...grew up in Moline..than near Champaign. Thanks for continuing to play all these years later.
BunYou are an amazing person. I have met you on several occasions and you always remain open to talk to people. You are very down to earth and social.I never saw this video until tonight and I think you did a fantastic job talking to those kids. You were a great inspiration to everyone involved, kids and adults like me watching this now.You have always stayed true to your Rockford roots and helped others in the industry.Band of the lost is playing at Neighbors on the 12th. It is also my 54th birthday. I know you and Randy are close friends and I hope you show up.Thanks for all you do. You are a special person and well respected.
Bun E. Carlos is an awesome human being and an excellent drummer. I was fortunate to see Cheap Trick in concert in 1979, on their debut album tour with the hit "I Want You To Want Me." They put on a great show. I remember Rick Neilson brought out his five necker Hamer checkerboard guitar. That thing's got to be made out of balsa wood to not break his back. LOL
Their debut was released a few years earlier than’78. That’ll be their 5th album Dream Police unless it was in the Winter early Spring of 1979; just saying is all.😮
Was? 🤣 The store's are full of it today. I think he's old fashioned thinking. I'm a drummer and make more mistakes than I can count and know a big list of musicians that can't read a lick of music
As a professional drummer, I can say that learning to play other instruments improved my drumming due to A: Better timing. B: Better understanding of music and mood. Also after being self taught for 3 years I took a lesson. Lessons are great. I was actually a better drummer self taught than the teacher who gave me the lesson, but he was able to clue me in on the following: A: How to properly count all patterns. B: How to properly hold my sticks. So when bunny talks about the value of a proper musical education, he telling you the truth. Like I said, I was more skilled than my teacher, but the small but CRUCIALLY IMPORTANT things he WAS able to teach me improved my drumming immensely.
I think the future musicians in the class were all sitting in front of Bun's bass drum in the corner! Cool to see some of the kids focused and interested in what he was saying.
I knew it, Bun E. I always suspected you truly wanted to be a teacher. Forget that rock star stuff, pfffwwt ! Deep down inside you jones for some chalk dust and endless xeroxing. Got a kick out of this video. Never knew it existed.
Nicely done, Bun! From Charlie up in Wisconsin (if you're peeking in). Back in the day I played with Jol Dantzig and Paul Hamer and Jol brought me to see you guys at a bar in the Chicago area. There wasn't even a stage. We just stood face-to-face right in front of you guys. Jol told me, "These guys are going to be famous." Little did I know. I also met Rick up at Northern Prairie Music. They were working on Jan Ackerman's guitar and Rick came in. Anyway. You did a great job talking to these kids, despite some of them being a bit childish.
He gave us one of the greatest drum intros on the song
"Aint that a Shame"
Cheap Trick is not the same without Bun. His unique cadence was part of what made their sound.
I saw CT last week. They still sound great, but you can't fully replace bun's style.
What an amazing and gracious gentleman. Im even more a fan now. "And stuff like that" hahaha.

Sad they don't know who he is. They want to know about Kanye west.

The kids are going """whattt?whats a concert?
@@mcgrath274 yo Brad Carlson you fucking kick ass dude
GOD BLESS YOU BUN E CARLOS...ONE DAY WHEN THESE KIDS GROW UP, THEY WILL APPRECIATE YOUR TALK WITH THEM EVEN MORE THAN RIGHT NOW...
AMEN TO THAT!!!!!!!
This takes more courage than playing the outdoors sheds with Aerosmith. What a nice speech Mr. Carlos!
Pretty good to keep middle school kids listening that long. Alot of adults would have loved to be in that room.
A key member of one of the greatest rock and roll bands in history!
established.
I just wanna say this takes serious balls. Middle school kids can be...no, they ARE brutal! God Bless Bun.
No Bun . E. No Cheap Trick. His drumming took them to the next level.
Too bad a small amount of money splits up lifelong friends.
Not really a small amount of money, unless you consider $600,000 a small amount
Thanks Bun, the future generation of musicians appreciate your life's story!
Bun is the man! It’s a damn shame he was forced to go after his former band mates through the courts. Thankfully he prevailed and is still legally a member of Cheap Trick. Was great to see them all together again at the RRHOF. Keep rockin’ Bun E!
2 Sweet! Bun E. Carlos hangin' with the youngsters, way to give back.
I'm 55 and I feel Inspired by Bun talk! I would love to see a video of what these kids are doing 10 years from now. Thank you Mr. Carlos!

I watched Cheap Trick for the music but mostly for Bun E Carlos. He rocks the drums cigarette and all.
Once I heard Ain't That A Shame from Live at Budakon...hooked! Love your drumming on it. Thank you Bun E Carlos.
Up on drums, Mr Bun E. Carlos
Thank you so much Brad you look amazing dude
Very cool, I wish more musicians would do this!
checkout nicko mcbrain school of rock.
Just wonderful. I'm off to listen to Cheap Trick

Bun E Carlos is a great guy , one of the nicest musicians I ever met. Stay Safe Bun....
I like how he connected the dots from band class to their future. Way to go, Bun E!
a few were junior high schoolers... aint that a shame...
Always humble and down to earth BUN E CARLOS
Yeah. love his playing and personality.
Love it! A real class act! I’ve seen Cheap Trick live to many times to count and he is an awesome drummer!
As an amateur musician, I love hearing how professional musicians made a living doing what they love.
It's fun to watch the kids slowly come to the realization of who Bun E. is. When he mentioned "Surrender" there were two or three that were like, "whoa, he did THAT song?!"
I love this. It's so surreal.
What a treat for the kids, and very nice of Bun to give his time. It took a while for them to realize he was someone special, but they came around.
Love Bun E man what a great story! He is a legend. So cool!
Good teacher, keeping his eye on all this students. "Get over here buddy and sit right by me." Nice job Mr. Gray!
I went to Lincoln with Brad and
Ric. Great wonderful guys.
Wish the whole school could have witnessed this in the excellent auditorium. Nice kids there .

That was fun. ☺ Work hard, practice often and Live the American dream.🇺🇸
Always have liked Bun E. seems like a real cool guy to hang out with
Thanks Bun for the awesome music I found early in life.
Bun E. Carlos, One down to earth guy. I really enjoyed this. Gave me insight of what its like and what it takes. The best is, hes just a regular guy. Thanks Bun
Bun E. Carlos is a class act.
actually , he's acting in front of a class .... big difference
This was awesome to see - thank you for posting it and thank you to Bun E.! Awesome drummer!

1st Class speech by a great, great drummer!!!!

The most honest Bun. E take on whats what I ever heard. Thanks for posting!
Right on Bun !! More musicians need to take heed. Help the kids. Help each other !! 😊
Bun, do you remember the Memorial Day parade when the bass drum guy forgot to bring the bass? That was me.
What a good time for both Bun and the kids.
LOL, Bun explaining what vinyl was... I bet he never thought he'd be explaining that today when he was back in 1975.
Was? 🤣 The store's are full of it today. I think he's old fashioned thinking. I'm a drummer and make more mistakes than I can count and know a big list of musicians that can't read a lick of music
Bun is the best. I was in marching band and then I was a million dollars in debt, you kids know what I’m talking about😂. Thanks Bun! You rock!
I think they should have started the talk by playing a video of a live version of Ain't That A Shame. That might have given these kids some context.
Bun E has never lost his roots.
Bun E. Is one of rocks greatest drummers!!!
BUN E. CARLOS IS LIKE A SHIP THAT LEAVES A MASSIVE WAKE OF COOL AND SWAGGER BEHIND HIM WHEREVER HE GOES!!!!!!!
I love how he finishes his sentences with "..and stuff like that.".
He really seems like a nice guy. In my neighborhood, we have Mike Portnoy and John Myung. We also had a bassist from Foghat, who passed-away recently.
really organized and thoughtful lecture
What a class act! Awesome guy.
So cool man what I would have done to be there, lucky kids.
Hey I went to Lincoln with Bun E Carlos aka Brad Carlson same years.
Wow......where was this when I was in middle school band? Come to think of it.......that's when I first discovered Cheap Trick!
As a professional drummer, I can say that learning to play other instruments improved my drumming due to A: Better timing. B: Better understanding of music and mood. What about the Buddy Rich school of drumming ...and that kind of stuff.
If my kid told me, "This guy came to talk to us today. He said he was the drummer for a band called Cheap Trick" I would've been like, "WHAT!?!?"
Right?
Much respect to Carlos.
Thats cool..and stuff like that
Very nice video. I still remember Cheap Trick first single in Japan, Clock Strikes Ten (今夜は帰さない)
Right on Bun...
I KNEW those were the licks from Ballroom Blitz!!!! Haha :)))
This was wonderful. Thank you.
I go to this school now and I am in 6th grade.
With his 2nd wife. Hysterical
Nice to see "bune" still kicking it. :)
I think the future musicians in the class were all sitting in front of Bun's bass drum in the corner! Cool to see some of the kids focused and interested in what he was saying.
So fun. Very cool.
Respect.

What a TREAT! amazing.
I love you Bun E!
The is wonderful.
Them kids up front bein disrespectful was kinda gettin on Buns nerves lol
He should have told them not to eat a cheeseburger before bed.
That was the school I'm in!😀😀
love ya Bun :)
Good job Bun.
Bun E's in love. Wait, that's supposed to be Chuck, never mind. Hells yeah, everybody loves the BUN man.
My aunts favorite instrument to play was the French horn. One of the 8 instruments she can play.
Beautiful message,I hope a couple kids went into music.
How cool is this!
What a cool guy he is
I kinda dig Cheap Trick stuff from the late 70s like Dream Police era
All this time I thought he was Hispanic,,lol. That was awesome.
Class.Act. 100%!!!!
Hey 👋 there Bun, how about you playing with that GrindCore band Meathook Seed in the early’90s??
I want Jimmy Page to come to my Show n Tell period at my 2nd grade class.! Can I hold my breath?

Awesome video!
Didnt know about 70s show....and the other theme songs
Respect bro!
Did Bun E. donate a couple bass drum spurs?
Look at the kids reaction to hearing 1969 @11:36. Yikes.
Bun E. - Life is too short... Call Robin...
