@@HighPriestVaticanAssasin that makes sense to me, guess inconstancy bullet seated need to have a longer jump to the throat of the barrel. Guess they stabilize better. That 75 grain hornady seems to be doing something similar to what I have experienced with their factory 223 55 grain fmjbt. It will almost always throw one out and the others will be on top of each other. That's out of my 16 inch 223wylde chamber 1:8 aero precision barrel 416r ss
I’ve had very similar results with the 75gr bthp and varmint. I did see lower ES and SD than you’re seeing using the CCI 41 primers. At 24.5gr PPV, LC Brass, CCI 41 primers through a 24” AR stoner bull barrel I saw: 2879 FPS 25 ES 9 SD So lower ES and SD is possible. Glad to see I’m not the only one struggling with these bullets and power pro varmint. Even the Tom Brady of reloading (JRB) has issues from time to time 😅. Thanks for the quality content!
I used a few T-nuts under my bench, straight holes for the bolts to pass through and bolts sit neatly at the top of the bench attaching the press to the board. Real fast to unbolt and no need to worry about dropping nuts
I’ve been waiting for a couple years for a mk262 series but with 75gr bthp. Excited to see how this turns out. Also can’t wait to see where the sbr loading goes!
My best combo with these 75gr Hornady bullets is with N140 using Remington brass. I am still testing N540 in Lapua brass (N140 is too expensive in my country now). My velocity is lower with my 16" M4 barrel but groups are great. I've had great success up to 540m with this 75gr bullet.
75 grain Hornadys work great in my 16”. The Sierras work really well in my 20” using carry handle irons. I haven’t worked in the 77s in the shorter barrel. The 75 grainers seem to shoot better around 2650 fps from my rifle. Max load was under an inch but a middle load was around 5/8”.
@@TheDkb427 there’s one I haven’t tried. When I found the 75s worked so well with IMR 4064 accuracy wise I didn’t try any more. I’m out of 75s anyway. I have plenty of TAC for 55 gr FMJ. Maybe I’ll try some TAC and 75s if I can find them.

I've ordered some some everglades 75 grain bthp with a cannalure. Their supposed to be a hunting bullet. Has anyone tried them? Johnny your videos have been a great place for information and the reason I've gotten into reloading
I have been working up loads with non cantilever 75gr hornady match. 22.5gr Benchmark gave 1/2"groups @100yds with one or 2 outliers. 23.9grs 8208xbr (over pressure!) But shot simular @2,725fps
I've been shooting them with about 26.1gr of CFE223 based on the Hornady 10th edition 556 data. I'm getting crazy velocity, over 2900fps from a 20" 1:8 Wylde. I may need to slow them down for better accuracy.
I been waiting on some 223 action again man. I've got two boxes of those to play with that I've not even opened yet. I think I'm going to put them in front of some varget in my WOA barrel.
@@NSghostoif5 I think it's inconsistencies with the bullets themselves I would get great groups going then 1 bullet would go 1-1.5" out of the group so I would have 4 in a .75" cluster and one out of every group would fly out for no rhyme or reason, the rifle was heavily sand bagged no movement minimum input from me at all. Never had issues like that with the 69 or 77 grain SMK or the Berger.
@@NSghostoif5 there are 2 kinds of Hornady BTHPs the T1 (what Johnny has in this video) and the T2 which is found in the Hornady TAP and Frontier 75gr loads. The T2 almost always has a cannelure from what Ive seen.
I shot mostly 77 gr SMKs but wanted a cheaper alternative so I bought a case of Hornady to try. I’ve shot several thousand of the 75 gr Hornady, and I feel like I’m always chasing my tail. Unexplained flyers are common. Varget was terrible for me. TAC did better but there would still be flyers. It wasn’t a process error, runout was always good. Back to the Sierras and the problems went away. I’ve since decided to pony up for Sierra or, when I can, buy cosmetic factory seconds up in Sedalia at the plant. I wish they would ship them, but they only take walk-ins and sell by the pound.
Yes waiting for some 75gr stuff 😀 Imr4895 over 23gr @ 2.230 w/ crimp in my 12.3” 1:7 best so far for me. Gold dot 75gr 5 in .375” 50yds using a red dot. Fairly new to the 223 world. You are highly recommend in my W. Sage reload group! Be safe out there!!
Hey JRB, I like what you did with your Hornady micro adjust. Adding your own lines drastically makes it easier to see your measurements. Even with the additions of black on mine from Hornady, it is still kind of a pain to see. I also appreciate some of the artistic shots of the powder. Retro. When my BA 223 wylde barrel wears out, I will definitely need to look at WOA. Keep em coming dude. *Buzz D Clown*
My WOA barrel shoots .5-.8 with the 75s but only with Varget and 8208. Tac stays right at 1 inch. Groups with C.F.E, Accurate 2520, Power Pro Varmint and BL-C(2) are over 2 inches.
I think that the hollow point bullets allow the ogive to be closer to the lands with the same overall length, which gives a higher chance of good accuracy.
Johnny try 24.2 and 24.6 gr of N540… watching a bench rest reloading video … it would indicate your just over the node…… with single flier.. double group of 23.9 indicates well over node… The Varmint loads are just well out of the nodes…. Seating depth or powder or both….
I had been trying the Hornady 75s with PPV 24.8 gr and had similar results. About 1.25-1.5 MOA was the best I could with LC brass and CCI 450 primers (10 shot groups). I was loading them on a progressive and shooting them in a 20" Krieger barrel service rifle upper I built with a Hi-Lux XTC 4x scope. The same load with the SMK averaged 1 MOA. PPV and the Hornady 75 BTHPs may just not work well.
I’ve had good luck running h322 with small Magnum primers in my 75gr load! Can’t remember the charge weight on the top of my head but give that powder a try.
I shoot the 75 grain Amax/ELD in my .22-250 Ackley Improved. They are indeed impressive. Mine are going 3,265 fps from a 21” barrel and not pushing hard.
If anything Creedmoor was a thing before I had my rifle built, I would have considered it. Now, I have the dies, so I’m committed. There would be nothing for me to gain by switching it up now.
I load 24.7 grains of varmint with my 75 bthp Hornady. I get great results some of my favorite powder. Get really good results with the sierra 77 grainers
Interesting results! I would weigh a batch of those bullets to see if there are any outliers. I tried the same bullet in a factory load and they shot about minute-of-basketball in a 1:8" barrel, so it's nice to see that a 1:7" twist seem to stabilise them well enough.
i just bought 500 of those 75gr hornadys for my T3 varmint to use with N540. Tikka shoots fantastic with 77gr scenar and N540 so i have high hopes for this cheaper bullet with similar weight
I have had issues with a bipod with rubber feet - especially on a hard surface - it can sometimes "hop" causing some vertical. Since I discovered that, I always use a sliding surface (such as a towel or something) on top of the hard surface and the vertical goes away. I especially see it with large calibers.
Looking at this shows what i found, there is a bit of inconsistency the weight of the 75gr hornady BTHP. I have thr hornady and some federal (gold dot)75gr also. fed are a bit more consistent in weight. I also have some of the old molly coated Hornady 75gr units also, I did however remove the greasy film from them and they shoot great with with Power Pro Varmint. The 77gr cost more for a reason a guess just more consistency in the production.
Super excited for these videos! Like everyone else, I have had inconsistent results with the Hornady. Refreshing to know it's not just me lol. I have tried weight sorting my bullets and found the runout to be pretty appalling compared to Sierra 77 SMKs. The base to ogive measurements are pretty consistent though. I have tried different charge weights, but have not yet tried different seating depths with them. I hope you are able to tame them so I can try to follow suit.
Haha looks like my pro 1000 mounted to an old end table lol. Get er done!! I love loading hornady 75gr bthp with cannelure and 24.8gr tac. Just loaded a few 77 gr smk and tmk with 24.1 gr tac Hopefully gunna shoot em tomorrow. Prepping brass sucks!!!! Lee chamfering tool starting to give me blisters. Happy shooting!!!!
If you had good results with the CCI #41 primers, the first thing I'd do is go back to them, and see if the PP Varmint works better. I also seem to remember that you used Remington #7 1/2 primers to good result in that series, as well.
I feel like the Hornady 75gr BTHP would be the perfect bullet to bulk load heavy OTM ammo for an AR. The price is right, and you could easily work up a load that works great in a few of your rifles with just some basic charge weight testing. Then load em up on a progressive.
I have those same magazines. Fine for low stress 10 shots for bench rest, but not the most reliable. Wish I would have gotten the pmags when they were cheaper.
The Hornady .22 caliber BTHP bullets are generally one "size" longer than SMK, meaning Hornady's 68gr is about the length of a 77gr smk. Maybe your rifle doesn't like those rather long bullets. I shoot Hornady in .308 and am very pleased, however .223 seems a lot harder to get them to shoot well.
I followed your mk 262 series and got interested in finding a load for myself. I have found Accurate 2520 to deliver on velocities (mid-upper 2700's) with very good accuracy. Also Winchester 748 is showing some promise. My test rifle is 16" barrel, mid length gas system.
Hello Johnny you brought me back to Reloading cause you give us so many good Tips and Tricks and it is so much fun to watch your Videos Greetings from Germany / where all components are way more expensive but it is relaxing and fun P.s. Been shopping around gradually for factory loaded 77gr stuff since I finally got my Mk.12 Mod.0 upper from High Caliber Sales. Haven't shot it yet because I'm still waiting on getting the proper scope rings and the scope itself. Visited Palmetto State Armory in Mt. Pleasant, SC and grabbed a box of Nosler Match 77gr .223 and a box of Hornady Match 73gr ELD-M .223, should be interesting to see how they compare to the 5.56 that I currently have.
I thought I just commented ... "totally down with this." Apparently not but I'll post it again, I am totally down with this. So tired of begging for 77 SMKs w/ cannelures plus I have a ton of VV540.

Johnny! You need to give the RMR 69gr BTHPs out! 14 cents a piece for a match bullet. And the folks at Rocky Mountain Reloading are good 2A supporting people
Johnny, Okay, You are still shooting groups that may not be "Benchrest" however, they are pretty frigging tight for the platform you are using, and also, you are using a bipod, (IMO) you will always have that nasty little flyer with those. I shot 75 gr Hornadys with VihtaVuori N-140 and N-135 for my match service rifle loadings, I realize that type of accuracy isn't what you are after in this venture, But those loadings were tight enough to clean the target at 600 yards. So, I'm out of my element comparing mine to yours. I'm impressed with N-540, I believe it is the way your rifle is mounted resting on the bench and consistency in where you have the butt in your shoulder in the stock, a simple thing of how tight you are holding pressure in your shoulder makes a difference in point of impact. However, I may be all wrong about all of that, you just have inconsistency in bullet quality from the Good folks at Hornady. I'm enjoying the content, keep it up. -Dave
Good testing Johnny. Wonder if the bullets are ok before you load them. Hornady quality has not been best lately. Hard lot people have bullets to die issues. Where these seconds? Likeing the kitchen table set up
You need to sort those Hornady bullets. They are inconsistent and have always thrown flyers. It is more rare for them NOT to throw flyers. One of the main reasons most competitive shoots shoot Berger, SMK's, or custom bullets. More consistency in jackets, meplats, and weights.
Hey Jonny have you used any of the new Reloaded 15.5? Looks like it will be an awesome powder. I have got a couple LBS of it coming and am stoked to try it out in 6mm ARC. Speaking of which. Did you get tired of the ARC yet or? How do I send some bullets for you to try on your channel? Thanks Chris
I know it’s not completely necessary, but when are you going to scoop up a premium scope? Vortex Razor Gen II or Leupold Mk5HD, etc would be a huge step up for testing. Much easier to zero turrets, way better clarity and hell you could confidently shoot groups/ladder-tests at 300/400/500 yards. As a precision rifle guy, optics are integral to accuracy. Also I wouldn’t load the bipod hard into a step. Look up 8541 Tactical video on loading the bipod. It’s about building a bridge from the rifle to shoulder
Do you clean the barrel between groups? Reason I'm asking is maybe your barrel is getting fouled up which will open up groups. I shoot benchrest, and when the groups start opening up it's an indicator that the barrel needs to be cleaned. Just a thought.
I would pick up the 600 packs of the slick ones from Academy for 13¢ each when they would send me coupons... They could probably stand to be sorted for uniformity but generally have been pretty accurate.
Was I the only one who noticed when you were seating the bullets the Hornady thing that keeps the bullet in line didn't come back down after the first one?
I enjoyed the video, is it possible to have a list of your equipment used. I have been out of the loop on this stuff for some time. Never seen that computer program.
Hey man. Hornady 5.56 Superformance Match 75 gr shoot very well out of my barrel, just highly expensive. Any tips on recreating these rounds? Ive saved all of my brass. Im really interested in creating my own rounds. At 50 yards, i can get dime size holes. I havent tried at 100 yet. They seem to shoot the best. Keep up the great job!
Been wanting to ask you is it normal that my charges way off from yours I mean like 200fps and or 1grain+ in 556 in 300 wm also and thats with all the powders makes me hesitant because I'm so north of load data but no signs of pressure or even only sometimes see barrely extraction shiny spot im in Eastern wa
Higher elevation creates less drag on the bullet due to thinner air. I'm at around 4-500 above sea level and all my loads usually are slower than published load book data. Tryed to create a M1 ball clone load with 175 grain SMK's and I was hanging around 2500 FPS when military FPS is around 2600 according to a collector M1903 book I have. (Ball loads for 30-06 are 3 types M1906,M1 ball and M2 ball) 1906 and M2 are 150 grain and M1 was a 173 or 174 grain bullet.
Wait I think I miss read your comment. If you look at load books most with have charge weight drops like my sierra manual has max FPS for 7.92x57 as 2300 FPS when military was 2,550 FPS for a 198 grain bullet. A old load book my grandpa had claimed 150 grain bullets in 7.92x57 had a max of 3,000 FPS but my 9th edition hornady has max FPS for 150 grain 7.92x57 as 2800.

Perfect timing! I’ve been watching the mk262 series over the past week.
At 24.5gr PPV, LC Brass, CCI 41 primers through a 24” AR stoner bull barrel I saw:
2879 FPS
25 ES
9 SD
So lower ES and SD is possible.
Thank you so much for your hard work. Please continue to make videos. They are wonderful.
Agreed. I got better accuracy with tac on the upper scale of powder.
@@me2bfc I just checked hogdons site and they are out. MidSouth had some a while ago but the hazmat charge is stupid same with primers. It's dumb you can order primed cases without hazmat but need hazmat for just primers!! The man has to get his I reckon
@@TheDkb427 thanks. I meant I was out of the 75 grain bullets not the 7 1/2 primers. I messed up and worked that load up with bench rest primers, which is evidently what Bigfoot uses and has been using ALL of them cause I can’t find him or them.
@@me2bfc haha good one yo!!! I gotya. Trying to keep stock is a pain. There's always something I gotta get and money don't last too long.
I've ordered some some everglades 75 grain bthp with a cannalure. Their supposed to be a hunting bullet. Has anyone tried them? Johnny your videos have been a great place for information and the reason I've gotten into reloading
One tip: buy small groups before you invest in something that won't work.
Very excited for these videos. Love making mk262-ish clones
After shooting the Nosler 77s you sent me a long time back I was sold bought 1000! Those are in my 1:9 twist 22-250… using RL16 in mine…
I been waiting on some 223 action again man. I've got two boxes of those to play with that I've not even opened yet. I think I'm going to put them in front of some varget in my WOA barrel.
I've had some serious inconsistency issues with the 75 grain Hornady using Varget and AA 2520 so I am not surprised with your results.
So weird you say that i was thinking dedicating 2520 for 75 because I had such great results now makes me wonder if lots make such difference 🤔
@@richardsveum8452 I think you right i rewatched JRB vid mine are way sharper and ojive is way lower ordered mine from midsouth
@@richardsveum8452 same here.
Great work Johnny! Keep the 223 videos coming
I had the worst experience with 75s and N540. Tried all kinds of charges and cols. I cleaned barrel and switched N140, it seems better now.
I have super groups with these bullets and H4895. Very low sd and es as well.
My WOA barrel shoots .5-.8 with the 75s but only with Varget and 8208. Tac stays right at 1 inch. Groups with C.F.E, Accurate 2520, Power Pro Varmint and BL-C(2) are over 2 inches.
This is perfect for me right now. Thank you.
I think that the hollow point bullets allow the ogive to be closer to the lands with the same overall length, which gives a higher chance of good accuracy.
Johnny try 24.2 and 24.6 gr of N540… watching a bench rest reloading video … it would indicate your just over the node…… with single flier.. double group of 23.9 indicates well over node…
The Varmint loads are just well out of the nodes…. Seating depth or powder or both….
Agreed: double groups mean you’re higher pressure than the node.
Another great Johnny"s video, keep them coming brother!
Would love to see these in a .22-250 with an 8 twist.
I shoot the 75 grain Amax/ELD in my .22-250 Ackley Improved. They are indeed impressive. Mine are going 3,265 fps from a 21” barrel and not pushing hard.
.22 Creedmoor
If anything Creedmoor was a thing before I had my rifle built, I would have considered it. Now, I have the dies, so I’m committed. There would be nothing for me to gain by switching it up now.
I loaded up 500 of the hornaday 75 gr at the end of spring. I used 24.2 gr of Tac, and some once fired WCC mil brass seated to the canalure.
I load 24.7 grains of varmint with my 75 bthp Hornady. I get great results some of my favorite powder. Get really good results with the sierra 77 grainers
I'm using fed 205 match primers
Get good results from cfe 223 also
Interesting results! I would weigh a batch of those bullets to see if there are any outliers. I tried the same bullet in a factory load and they shot about minute-of-basketball in a 1:8" barrel, so it's nice to see that a 1:7" twist seem to stabilise them well enough.
My SR15 prefers the 77’s but the old Bushmaster competition rifle with an extra heavy barrel loves these 75’s and Varget.
I keep getting notices that these are in stock and I'm so tempted to get some of these too test.
i just bought 500 of those 75gr hornadys for my T3 varmint to use with N540.
"Well, that load has gone to crap!" Sounds like one of my range trips. :o)
Ive ordered from grafs several times, always good service.
Sages reloading supply has the Hornady 75 grain for $20.99 for the 100 pack.
I’ve had really good results with Shooter’s World Match Rifle powder and the Hornady 75gr pill.
Hello Johnny you brought me back to Reloading cause you give us so many good Tips and Tricks and it is so much fun to watch your Videos
Greetings from Germany / where all components are way more expensive but it is relaxing and fun
P.s. Try Peregrine Bullets as Alternative to Barnes in Germany you actually get no Barnes TTSX till next year so i tried this they work great for me in Dia 264 284 308 and 323 we have to hunt leadfree in some Regions and after 2023 in whole Germany so i go started Tests this year for me shot several Roe and Red Deer till yet with it and some Boars / Yes they are not cheap but not more expensive than Barnes here in Europe
What a great shooting rifle!
I've had really good luck with Varget and Rem 7 1/2 for that bullet and LC brass.
I see your brass is going out at 1:00 to 2:00 O'clock , will you weight the buffer more ? It might smooth the recoil impulse .
Great point! , I like 77gr SMK I shoot both powders
Keepem coming johnny. 👍
very interesting results
Love this series!
I have a similar setup and had issues with the mlok screw for the bipod pic rail hitting the gas block. Worth checking.
I thought I just commented ... "totally down with this." Apparently not but I'll post it again, I am totally down with this. So tired of begging for 77 SMKs w/ cannelures plus I have a ton of VV540.
Thanks to your mk vids I also included to test 75 Hornady used shooters match 26.4 got 2803 sub .5moa also 2520 26.3 at 2800 .5moa no pressure for me but others beware cfe I gave up sd and es were horrible would love to get n540
Johnny!
You need to give the RMR 69gr BTHPs out! 14 cents a piece for a match bullet. And the folks at Rocky Mountain Reloading are good 2A supporting people
Upvoted … I’m totally down with this.
-Dave
I made a mistake by swtching my 140 with N160. With the hornady 68 and 23.5gr i shot 1 hole. so strange

I always enjoy your videos
Is that a Corelle dish at 4:51 ?
Thanks
Chris
Great video
Was I the only one who noticed when you were seating the bullets the Hornady thing that keeps the bullet in line didn't come back down after the first one?
I enjoyed the video, is it possible to have a list of your equipment used. I have been out of the loop on this stuff for some time. Never seen that computer program.
The Hornady 75's shoot great over AR-Comp for me
Good video! Enjoyed it! Gave me a few ideas for my next video!
@@jacksonthompson7099 yep I was trying to match lc and imi 55gr with Hornady55 went up to 28.2 barely made it to 3150 no pressure signs still round primers and no ejection marks like I get with lc and imi but a bid hesitant to go higher I think JRB did 27.3 gr cfe and reached those velocities crazy 1700 above sea level and such difference
@@NSghostoif5 oh absolsutely man, sea level makes a very big difference in muzzle velocity. Hello air drag! Also humidity makes a differnce so crazy how the world of bullets work.
