Well, let's hope so. However, I think it depends entirely on the business models of the Ultra-Billionaire Tech-Bro Collective. If that tiny handful of people decide that AI will replace software engineers, then I'm pretty sure they will make that happen. It completely depends on what their design goals are. Right now it looks like their business model is towards AI-Replacement rather than AI-Augmentation. But like Jaron Lanier once wrote in "Who Owns the Future" (2013), maybe our best bet is to ask the TIny Handful to be nice guys. I could not stop laughing for three days after I read that "solution" from Jaron. And as time has proven, his analysis was exactly spot on as to what they were doing, what they planned to do, and how it would turn out for everyone... but his solution was completely naive and utterly ridiculous. Ask them to be "nice". LOL. Anyway, yes, I think it depends completely on the business models of the Tiny Handful, and that is all. If they want to, then in a few years not only will there be no software engineering jobs, but there will be no jobs anywhere for anyone, as Elon aptly pointed out a few years ago. So, we'll see.
