oh its for sure faux fur on lis nasx. to get the dye to look like that they start with a light pile fur and dye the top a contrasting color where the strands physically layer, but nothing underneath. so when the fabric is manipulated the piles different colors show underneath. not sure if you knew or not, but i work w faux fur more than regularly

The Fifth Element costumes were designed by Jean-Paul Gaultier (not Thierry Mugler). Otherwise, fab video, Anna! I saw some of those costumes at a museum retrospective of Gaultier's work.
