when i was in Chicago on vacation we stayed in the Fairfield in across the street because of station 42 and i have a friend there on 1st shift and i hung out with them and stuff it was really cool CFD has some of the nicest fire personal i think I've met and Ivan your my favorite CFD channel lol when i can't be there in person to watch it i go to your channel to watch it
lol poor guys caught in the kitchen like dammit 😂. That’s gotta be the worst part of the job, you just tired and hungry and goober in the tower starts a fire smoking in bed. (Obviously there are worst parts but I’m sure it’s up there lol). When I was a kid working in a grocery store I used to take the firemen’s grocery cart to our cooler all the time cause they would get called while shopping. One day it took em 13 hours to make it to the register 😂. I think they had like 4 calls that day and every time they made it back they had to go right back out lol.
question for responders how much of a pucker factor is it hearing more and more engines and trucks get read out before deploying, cant imagine its a nice feeling hearing over a dozen machines being dispatched
It's standard for high rise dispatches. We get everybody moving because reflex time for a high rise investigation was delaying the dispatch and arrival of the follow on companies necessary to get all the pieces in place.

There is no B rig in a squad complement, the "front" rig or "tool box" (in this case a twenty year old reserve engine converted for use) is Squad 1 and the "back" rig or Snorkel is Squad 1A. They proceed in complement to all runs.
It's a tradition since the 1930s in homage to nautical lighting (red and green navigational lights). No real reason nowadays other than almost 100 years of tradition.
The Squad, Command Van, and EMS chief have secondary roles to play so they delay slightly to afford other engines and trucks the ability to reach the scene first and park closest.
What is the history behind the single green light on the front of the apparatus? The tradition of a green light in the fire service is a command post, not sure if that’s what CFD is doing here?

Even the firehouse doors have red and green marker lights.

Port or starboard side. Goes back to early firefighters having been Lake Michigan boaters so I'm told.
