I bought same stump grinder 18 yrs ago, I went through a couple engines & as we speak i am trying to get an old kohler going otherwise I'm buying a new lifan 24hp or duromax 23hp I had a 22hp predator but I do this for a living those don't last the cast aluminum case shift side wore oblong then main bearing went so I'm in middle of ordering coils for 18hp kohler...but I love the machine I love the work & talking to my customers..well time to pick up a Stromboli...

After cutting stump should I put soil on it or leave the shredded wood on top ?

Looking at 8 to 24 working hours for the teeth if you don't hit a rock. Cost to replace varies depending on which teeth your machine will use, best bet is to see if you could lease a machine from close by and try different ones. No point buying a grinder when the nearest person to fix it it a 9 hour drive away. If red roo are close use them, if bandit or dosko are closer use them. All I would say is if you do buy one price your jobs knowing that when something goes wrong and you can't fix it yourself it's going to cost you, so ask if you could get a print out of the cost of replacement parts (belts, teeth, disk, cables, etc) like everything, they are great when they work and earn you money, not so much when it's sat on a lawn and it's only use is a paperweight.

I've got one of them. They're good for work in flat firm ground only. Too heavy for one person to manoeuvre them up hill.

And. They don't say who makes it. I saw Briggs engine (not good).

    Money wasting. What about roots?

Hire a dingo for triple the money or spend 2 days digging them out like I did. The alternative is to leave the roots in the ground to rot like I did with another stump. It depends if the roots are the type that will sprout new growth or are near the surface and will stop construction work, landscaping or growth of lawn. If they are deeper roots that don't have much impact then just let them rot. I don't know where you get the idea that stump grinding is money wasting as lots of people hire companies to get rid of stumps or hire machines to DIY. The people I know who have hired a company to do it say it was very worthwhile. Some stumps are so big that you need a D9 bulldozer to dig them out. If the stump is close to building or in an inaccessible area then stump grinding may be the only solution, What is is your preferred method for removing a 1/2 metre diameter stump from a back yard with no large machine access?

What droceretik said, plus, you only have to drill a hole and fill it with glyphosphate to kill suckering roots.
