Michael Parkinson was one of the finest interviewers in the business, he knew his subject so well, that he could guide them in the right direction. Notice, Parkinson hardly interrupted Paul Hogan, that takes immense skill, and still the interview was interesting.

Today the term for Ocker is TRUE BLUE. Simply put, the Ocker is your everyday Aussie, generally working class, who has a sense of humour, supports his mates, has pride in his Country, won't tolerate BS or class distinction. The Ocker loves sport, the underdog, freedom of expression and the right of all to be treated equally regardless of race or Religion. The Ocker respects authority only if it earned, does not suffer puffed up vanities, loves to tilt at Windmills, and call a spade a spade. Maybe the Ocker is a dieing breed, as Australians are pushed to model themselves after more sophisticated Nations with the view that Australians are an embarrassment culturally. I would like to thin of myself as TRUE BLUE, as was my Old Man, and his Dad. I am a proud Australian, I have served, as did my father and his father, but our Country has changed with the values Mr Hogan representing, gradually fading. As John Williamson once wrote 'True Blue, where have you gone'. Thankyou Paul for your years of Aussie humour.
When he did that all I could think was, "not your right hand, please don't , no, too late" Did he wipe his hand on his trousers? I didn't feel Parkinson understood Paul, do you think he did?

hogan with crocodile dundee did for australia what john fords the quiet man did for ireland.it put it on the map as a major tourist attraction.australian humour until he came along was in truth mated very much to the uk.a lot of british sit coms were popular there and years after theyd been made the stars would do stage versions down under long after the shows had vanished from british screens.i remember vividly the early days of neighbours when madge and harold on holiday in the uk met a lord played by derek nimmo! my cousin who lived in sydney visited us around this time and was amazed nimmos appearence hadnt made headlines in the uk like it did at home.no one here remembers him we said.but his shows are on all the time in australia! shows how clever hogan was though in noticing that australia that loves british humour considered all comics had to be failures etc .the big problem british sit coms and comics had in the usa was that they didnt understand this at all.the shows always had to have happy endings and be sucessful.the characters had to be nice! alf garnett was hated by his wife and family archie bunker was loved! john cleese said a pilot of the us version of fawlty towers summed up the american sense of humour.bea arthur!!! played the basil role and the episode ending with the hotel about to fall down instead of basil in despair in manic rage going off to insert a large garden gnome into the builder finished with bea saying to the others group hug!!!
I'd tend to agree with his SYDNEY versus Melbourne views (in 2011 - 18 hour layover 🍺 enroute from Adelaide to Los Angeles, 2019 - my Brother's cremation). Very friendly and approachable people. After living in Melbourne for 5 months this year I went for a drink in Northern Ireland & Ireland and then moved to regional Queensland. Having said that I'm trying to invite a woman from Melbourne up here 🙄

Paul oozed charisma, charm and comic timing and was super intelligent knowing when to let loose with the Crocodile Dundee character to the wider world. Exploiting Hollywood at it’s own game with a stereotype and laughing all the way to the bank. Aussie tax tried to do a number on him but found nothing - this man should be studied in business schools and acting schools for what real star quality is and how to not lose it all 5 minutes later.
He lost it though. A one trick pony. Crocodile Dundee was funny but after a while I found the blokeishness and the celebration of Australian we don't give a fuck attitude too much.

I disagree. Parkinson did a good job he asked good questions, kept the interview moving along and most importantly he gave Hoges time to answer the questions. The interview was about Hoges and not Parkinson as it should be. The US chat shows are too much about the host and the guests are just props.
