That air hose at the Texaco was for the bell that rang when a customer drove up over it. When I worked at a gas station while it was real busy I hated hearing that bell. Thanks for not stepping on it.
Justin,I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for all the hard work and entertainment you put into all your videos,I'm from southern California born and raised now living in Guadalajara,Mexico,I was and annual Disneyland passholder myself for years and miss it every day!!..Your videos bring me joy and literally crack me up!...Thankyou for going and filming places so many people will never be able to experience...like Paris!..Anyways much love and many blessings to you and Ally..XOXO
Justin Scarred is America's next Huell Howser! Someone has got to get him on national Tv soon! heck, I'd even buy this whole Route 66 series on DVD if Justin made a set! Keep up the great work JS!!
Loved seeing Pontiac, It's great when a town displays so much public art, those murals were beautifull and the museum was one of the best you've shown us and you managed to fit "Route 66" in a whopping 33 times this episode, not as many as the epic 59 mentions near the start of your road trip but getting back up there.
The hose laid across the drive at the gas station was used to activate a bell that would ring as you drove in, sending the attendant running out to your car.
There are a couple of filling stations in Wilmington on a second alignment to the west of the original route near downtown. They are not restored and are repair shops now.
Nice to see you give some love to Pontiac. Much of my youth was spent living there. Born and Raised. They really have taken on Route 66 in the last Decade. Always enjoy going back home. I had many bike rides on old route 66 from Pontiac to Chenoa. Good times.
I traveled west with my parents on much of Route 66 in 1954, and even then, there were sections of old decaying pavement paralleling the then-current road. In the mountains, you'd often see the old road going up and down like a roller coaster, where the newer pavement was straightened out with cuts and fills. In some places, we'd see places where a piece of unpaved dead-end road veered uphill off of the main highway, where truckers who lost their brakes could get their runaway rigs safely stopped.
Im adding that museum in Pontiac to my list of stops. These people who run these places should be thanking you for doing these vlogs of their establishments Justin.Another great vlog.for some strange reason I love the little 57 chevys all painted up.
Hopefully your videos and Cars will inspire the younger generation to come out and keep Route 66 alive and learn and share the stories - you are the great inspiration and storyteller
I used to work with the sign company that made those murals..Shawcraft signs out of Loves Park, IL. The owner goes all over IL doing these historical murals all over towns.
I really appreciate the nice things you said about Pontiac Illinois as it's my home town. We take great pride in our route 66 history. I really have enjoyed all your route 66 videos.
Can't wait til you see Adam again. He's such a good guy and I think he needs your positivity and support. You are a awesome person and have a lot of experience on dealing with not so great situations. Stay safe and take care!
thank you so much for all these amazing route 66 videos. we start our cross country trip from Boston to CA Friday and are picking up route 66 in Chicago and taking it all the way to Santa Monica. Your videos have helped us not only with ideas but also gotten us even more excited for this grand adventure. great videos - excited for the rest and your trip back!
very awesome as always Justin! such awesome museums. and how touching the one guy included his uniform as well as his friend's that didn't make it from the war.. my eyes were sweaty from respect. Have an awesome day man!!! can't wait for more!
Interesting about the former police headquarters shaped like a Derringer. . I love the semi-circular glass tiled area on the corner there. Guess that was innovative for 1941. I loved the door on the washroom at the restored Standard Oil filling station at Odell, and I was so lucky to get to see the beautiful pressed tin roof from inside.
Hey Justin, you mentioned wanting to stay at an "old timey" bed and breakfast. You should try the Inn at 835 in Springfield, Illinois on your way back to California. We stayed there on our Route 66 trip and it was the best place we stayed on the entire trip! Guaruntee you will thank me later. Your welcome in advance.
Great stuff. I travel through that area once a year. I have a photo, I wish I could post it here, from 1991 of that Odell filling station before restoration.
I love you Justin! If laughter is the best medicine....then you are best doctor ever! I always laugh when I click on your videos, as well as learn a thing or two about a thing or two! That mannequin child was beyond creepy! Keep up your good work Justin, and p.s.....take care of the Woo for us here on the East Coast. We miss him here but wish him well!
Justin- Your videos are amazing. I love the Route 66 series. Everything you do has inspired me to create my own travel based channel. I am not nearly as comfortable as you on camera and I wish I could be that funny on the fly, but I am trying to make it work Last summer (2021) I drove from Santa Monica to St. Louis on Route 66 with my then 15 year old son. This week we hit the road and picked up where we left off in St. Louis and are heading to Chicago to basically “finish” the route. I’ve watched your entire series going to Chicago and stopped and saw much of the same stuff you show in your videos. I don’t want to copy, but I do find much of that fascinating. We used the passport to get us to some of the more obscure places. We’ve had lots of fun. I even watched The Ghost and the Darkness prior to leaving on this part of the trip so I can enjoy seeing the Lions of Taslvo. I saw the movie once back when it came out. I just wanted to let you know I love what you do, and that you motivated this 50 year old to try making travel videos. I wanted to be a filmmaker, but that never really worked out, so doing these videos allows me to stay creative while also making videos to serve has home movies for my boys. Finishing the route is going to be bittersweet. While our vacation still goes on for another 8 days, this particular portion is going to feel different. Almost a year to the day when we started from Santa Monica we are going to be ending. It’s honestly something I never thought I would care about. Route 66 was never told to me, I didn’t know much about it until I started looking into it a few years ago. Now looking at finishing the route was something I never expected to do. It was so much fun, the places we went, what we saw and the fun we’ve had is truly something I will never forget. Doing this last leg with my younger boy and my wife is something great. Like any sequel, we spent a little time refreshing the audience with the 1st movie (I.e. starting in St. Louis where the last trip ended) and then heading into Illinois and doing the route with new members added to the cast (my younger son and my wife) and you have the perfect recipe for a sequel that could be better than the original 😂😂😂 I just wanted to say Thanks for the inspiration. Schleep Well!
Pontiac's courthouse looks like it belongs in Downtown Disney. Looking at that Texaco I realized that kids "nowadays" are robbed of the fun of jumping on the little hose and hearing the bell ring. I'm sad (and apparently older than I thought)
We saw one of those Lion drinking fountains at the Long Beach flea market, but the seller didn't have any info of where it came from. Great to see one working. haha!
The Air-Hose at the Texaco station would ring a bell when the cars tires went over it. I'm sure you know that but if you don't, that's what those were for. Ding-Ding. Yep
Justin! I want that Buick Riviera that was in the garage! My dad had a white with blue interior one when I was a teen in Huntington Beach back in the 1970s!
omg I've eaten at the launching pad so many times!!! I live near Joliet, which is near Wilmington. the last couple times I've gone passed it, it was closed
The war museum part was cool. I got all my fathers Vietnam uniforms and other things after he died and I love to look through it sometimes. And like you, I recently became fascinated with old gasoline pumps, signs, etc. Original ones go for big money! Thankfully replica pumps aren't to much. :) #Route66
I've actually been looking forward to you being in Pontiac, it was one of the places i was able to stop with my family to see some of the Route 66 stuff, including the museum you were in. There was an old town i didnt see you pass by called Times Beach. There is a museum there. Its in the Route 66 State Park in Missouri, should stop by it on your way back.
i had heard that filmore wasn't named waldmire because pixar made a toy deal eith McDonald's and he didn't want his name attatched to a character that you could get at McDonald's
I’m #95436 great video thanks I live in Illinois and your full of knowledge Gemini giant I did not know it was a big deal I live 30 minutes from that I’m hooked your videos are really good and full of excitement

Always enjoy your awesome videos. Thanks Justin!!!
There are a couple of filling stations in Wilmington on a second alignment to the west of the original route near downtown. They are not restored and are repair shops now.
21:41 didn't they film part of "The Founder" there? Like one of the places Ray went to sell his machines in the beginning.
Nice to see you give some love to Pontiac. Much of my youth was spent living there. Born and Raised. They really have taken on Route 66 in the last Decade. Always enjoy going back home. I had many bike rides on old route 66 from Pontiac to Chenoa. Good times.
Another awesome video of Route 66........awesome! You have really stepped up your game. Great job, Justin!

i'm so glad you went where i recommended! i knew you'd love the gemini giant!
polka-a-dots is the best little gem.. good food. Love that you can still put money in the little play stations at the tables and the music will play..

Awesome!!! Will be on Route 66 in CA and AZ next month.Fun times and pics ahead!!!
courthouses can be lovely! the one in Sevierville TN is also nice!
When you come back, stop in McLean, IL at a place called Arcadia. It's a functioning arcade with a working jukebox. It's located in their Town square.

We have a "muffler man" in westchester. He fell apart about 20 years ago but another gas station bought and restored him.

your shows are so educational. my little cousins age 4 and 6 watch it during breakfast
Way to go man! What a journey...and you've gotta back track it too! Thanks again for doing this for us!
I really do enjoy these videos! Learning so much!

Great work! STAY Safe Justin!
Awesome video Justin, this has been a total blast your whole trip, kinda sad it's almost over. 😢😀
Justin, you're my favorite vloger and I enjoyed this video.
3:20 You were very funny in Gardner, Had to watch you twice....
I've seen tributes like that with the uniforms and stories at county and state fairs.
Hey Justin is just down the road from me! So cool!
You should see the Chicago El and the many railroads. Chicago was known for its railroads, in fact, its the rail capital of the country.

My dad smoked Viceroys.... sad to see the Launching Pad out of business. I believe it was still going when Billy Connolly did his Route 66 series
Awesome!! Love your videos!
The Launching Pad has recently been purchased!!
That streetcar Diner meant there could have been a streetcar/interurban on Route 66!
The launching pad has been purchased by new owners and is projected to open spring 2018!!!
Almost to my area of Romeoville & Bolingbrook area!!
13:54 Seems german police officers love route 66, I spotted some stuff throughout the videos^^
It's hilarious because this is 30 min away from my house 😂
I was freakin out when he uploaded the Springfield one because I was there a week before he was
Did you ever find one of the old gas stations that actually was still a gas station?
How did he film the upper view of the police station? A drone?
Yeah a lot of vloggers use drones nowadays
You went to Pontiac and didn't visit the Pontiac museum. Great vid as always.
Welcome to Chicago my friend, it would be awesome to shake your hand and say hello ;)
good burgers at the launching pad
How'd you get those overhead shots? They can't be from Google Maps.
He has a drone he uses in outdoor shots
Did you pick up a Filmore toy at the museum?
Whats the first video going to cover when you get back to LA?
you should go to Carthage Missouri.
"I think I looks better on me anyway" burrnnn
just one question... what type of bear is best?
Did you know there are approximately 70 Route 66 wayside markers?
the end is near!....or is it just the beginning?
cool video!
Good video :)
I live in Normal! I wish you had stopped :/
I still just don't understand why you would be away from Ally this long?
He’s gotta earn a living by making videos so he can support Allie and his son London
