    Recently I purchased one of these PNW Components Cascades and somehow I mangled the internal nylon cable! So after ordering a replacement cable and dragging my feet on putting it in for a few months, the pain of riding without a functioning dropper post became too great, and I finally put in the cable. I then turned to this video to actually install the dropper post. The video showed really clearly how to install the post, and the section on installing the lever was really well done as it showed exactly how to put in that little nut the cable gets threaded through - if you don't know anything about installing dropper posts, it would be easy to get this wrong. Great job on this instructional video, guys!
    Anyway, it's finally in and I can't believe how excellent this post is! If you're shopping for a dropper post, I'm not sure you can beat PNW's posts for the price, functionality, and outstanding customer service.

    Hi Kyle, you always give clear and easy instructions how to do things. So cool 😎 I'd appreciate your advice if a dropper post is essential to have on a mtb. My bike came with a standard seat post. I've looked at upgrading but droppers are expensive extras in New Zealand. My current skill level is maybe same as April's or little lower and I ride mostly trail or beginner tracks and jumps. What's your thoughts on it?

    • @AprilRideMTB
      @AprilRideMTB  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey great question! In my opinion they are a huge help in developing confidence and skill. If you can find an affordable one I think that would be a great addition! probably my number 2 upgrade behind good tires

      @@AprilRideMTB Thanks Kyle, always appreciate your fast replies and extensive knowledge. I've been looking at PNW (your sponsor) & similar priced brands with internal routing. Seen some positive customer support reviews on PNW as a company. Also what's your tire preference for tracks like April rides? I currently have Bontrager XR3 which came with the bike.
      By the way just a side note... With you sharing your pro level knowledge with April & us (the world) on TH-cam your really helping a lot of poeple enjoy learning MTB more. Your making a difference.. just wanted you to know 😊

    Did you run the cable along the TT on the same side as the lever? PNW says that creates too much of a bend in the cable. But running the cable around the head tube to the right of the TT and then crossing under the TT to the left side seems really busy. Getting ready to install one and like the idea of staying on one side of the TT if that works.

    • @AprilRideMTB
      @AprilRideMTB  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey, Great question. Yeah I did run it on the same side. it may have ever so slightly more friction in the housing running in on that side but it shouldn't be enough to notice on the trail. Where you really notice those bends effecting the performance are on internally routed frames when the cable needs to make a 90 to go up into the seat tube around the bottom bracket or something. The slight bend on the side of the headtube should totally be ok. Just make sure you put a clear 3m sticker on the frame or some mastic tape on the cable housing to prevent paint wear on the frame

    • @aroundoz
      @aroundoz 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@AprilRideMTB Thanks for answering. I ended up going around the head tube and crossing under since the cable really wanted to go that way if you know what I mean. It looks clean.
      I ordered another Cascade for a new frame even though it has internal routing. I ship my bikes ahead sometime and it's more of a problem with internally routed posts vs exterinal. Internal routing is overrated IMHO.
      And nice video BTW.

    after install everything was good, then bike sat in house for a year, now it sticks about 1 1/2 inches from top, goes down ok, lever seems to work ok, comes up pretty fast to sticking point, have to pull it to extend all the way past sticking spot, tried a little grease then silicone spray, didn't help at all,

    • @AprilRideMTB
      @AprilRideMTB  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nathan have you tried loosening the seat clamp bolt at all? Sometimes over tightening mine will cause that little bit of stick at the top? No guarantee but worth a shot!

    Is it possible to fully seat the post in the bike or does where the cable attaches to the dropper post to narrow to go over the seat post clamp? Just trying to help determine how long of a dropper i could run

    • @AprilRideMTB
      @AprilRideMTB  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depending on the seat clamp it should be able to go all the way down. I have done it like that on a bunch of bikes but there are some weird bulky seat clamps that may not work as well.

    • @jaknudsen

    • @PNWComponents
      @PNWComponents 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      We actually have 150 and 170mm versions of the Cascade now too. The big advantage with the Cascade is that it has external routing and the Bachelor is internal only.

    • @AprilRideMTB
      @AprilRideMTB  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey the only reason I highlighted this seatpost is that it is a great option for frames that will not accept internal routed seat posts. The Cascade works great and it is an awesome upgrade for the price for anyone that has a non internally routed frame!

      @@AprilRideMTB I have a marlin 6 with internal routing.i ordered the cascade dropper so will I be able to run cable internally or no.

    • @AprilRideMTB
      @AprilRideMTB  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dereknoto9969 It really depends on where the cable ports for the frame are. Generally you will need to run it externally with the cascade. The rainier is the internal post from PNW at the same pricepoint . My old Marin Attack Trail could run an external post with the cables hidden really well where the front deraileur cable would normally go. Otherwise you can use some adhesive tape for the cable and housing along the top tube.
