- Ich hatt' einen Kameraden - Also known as "Der gute Kamerad", is a traditional lament of the German armed forces. The text was written by German poet Ludwig Uhland in 1809. The song is about the immediate experience of a soldier losing a comrade in battle.

Ich kann mich daran Errinnern ,das mein Vater zu Weihnachten immer geweint hat leise für sich ,weil er mit 16 Jahren im Krieg war und der Mutter seines Freundes die Nachricht überbringen müsste das ihr Sohn gefallen ist ! Sein bester Freund ! Darum , Last uns diese Erfahrung nie mehr machen es muss Frieden sein auf der ganzen Welt ! Ich fühle mit allen der Angehörigen deren Väter Söhne und Ehemänner ihr Leben verlieren ! Wir dürfen nicht vergessen ,die Welt gehört uns allen ! 😢

a song in memory of all the dead German guys. this is a german song. my relatives died in the 2nd war. But I respect the memory of all the soldiers who died in this terrible war. The words of this song apply to everyone.
Dieses Lied wurde an der Beerdigung meines Opas gesungen. Es war sein Lieblingslied. Ich kann mich noch gut daran erinnern, es war 1966. Ein wunderschönes Lied.

Ive been a german right wing member since 14 years. Ive seen a lot. Once a close friend told me that he would catch a bullet for me if its fired for me. Thats a very serious statement in germany. In germany you can find friends and enemies to the grave and its always up to you & your decision making.

I've been listening to this song for a few weeks now, and...despite it being beautiful and haunting, I feel sad that these men - these soldiers - (it's a soldier's song, dated long before the 1930s and 1940s), yet died for their country...and this was played at Erwin Rommel's funeral...
I also feel the urge to stand and salute these men (my maternal uncle and maternal grandpa were both combat veterans who fought in WW2 in the European front, and my dad and his brother were combat veterans from different war fronts), yet, I'm an American...

Should be a song for ALL dead soldiers. Maybe someday somebody may find a way to end wars forever. I am not too hopeful though. Humans have a self destructive gene, don't they?
