Based on book by the same name. Author Pablo Vierci was a childhood friend to most survivors and took all the stories from each one to compile in to this wonderful book which JA Bayona took to another level. It’s definitely a must watch. It’s hard to watch but a definite masterpiece.
This movie is masterpiece in storytelling... it's not just a movie, but an experience. You could feel like you were in it with the survivors. Bravo! Should have been nominated for so many more Oscars. Best picture, director, cinematography, adapted screenplay, sound... to say the least. The acting was absolutely fantastic! A movie with heart, all the feels, without the need to overdramatize anything. It's as close to a perfect movie as you're going to get.
This is an incredible film, having the survivors and family of those who could not return from the mountain telling the true story turns the film into a piece of art.
What about Sound and Special Effects?. Why was the foreign film , Parasite able to compete and win in the Best Film at the Oscars, but not Society of the Snow? Sounds like more Oscar political bs at work.

It IS. I’m getting tired of the Oscar BS. Off topic but Lily Gladstone should’ve also won Best Actress but they gave it to the white woman instead even though Lily won everything else already. I was also pissed that Society didn’t win either of their categories because America had to pick the usual war themed movie instead of course.
It is because unlike alive this one doesn't focus just on the survivors, it gives a voice to thise who did not make it as well. You should definetly watch it
I'm really, very happy to see and hear of this Netflix movie Society of the Snow about the plane crash in the Andes Mountain waiting for the rescue in 72 days, but now this movie won the nominated for the best international features in the Oscars Award congratulations
I loved the film but I wish they did equal narratives for those who experienced it except one person. It's a beautiful film of solidarity but I feel like it was too focused on one person and you don't know much about the others unless you've researched it; Nando's anguish losing his mother and sister after he invited them, Roberto's love story with then girlfriend and wearing the sweater she knitted for him when he did his trek, Carlito's spoiled upbringing never lifting a finger but rising to the occasion as the one who sewed the sleeping bag, would've been super nice to hear it from them all.
They should’ve won. But of course America voted for a war movie instead. 🙄 I’ve about had it with the Oscar political BS. It’s no longer about who’s actually the best in the category, it’s just a joke now.
@@SevenEllen I was so pissed when the Oscars again followed their usual trend of picking the war themed movie instead of a true story about resilience, solidarity, the strength of the human spirit and surviving against all odds when the world gave you up for dead. I guess I really shouldn’t have been surprised. However, this one will be remembered as a timeless powerful film while “western front” will eventually fade away as yet another war movie among many. So there’s that.

I can't wait to watch this movie. I remember watching the movie Alive when I was younger. This looks like it could be better.
