I made this cake yesterday and when I made it I was so excited to cut into it I did not even frost it. So far I think this is one of the best cakes I’ve ever eaten and my family can agree with that

Thank you! Unfortunately whole eggs will not work here. You really need to whip the egg whites to stiff peaks. I include several recipes to use up extra egg yolks in my blog post so there's no waste 😊

Cake flour is essentially all purpose flour with cornstarch (corn flour in UK) added in. You can make your own cake flour by sifting together 1 cup of all purpose flour and 2 TBSP of cornstarch. :)
I've had many unsuccessful attempts at making zebra cake using different recipes. No matter what I do, I can't achieve a cake with two distinguished colours. I always get a brown cake even though I use a third of the batter for the chocolate part of the cake. Any tips?
Hi! Have you watched the video for this one? the key is in how you add each spoonful, keeping each color inside the ring of the other color and going slowly. I demonstrate in the video :)

Sam, is there a particular science behind the sugar flour ratio in this cake? 2 cups of sugar always makes me go 🤔 because I think the cake will be sweet.
It’s a pretty large cake. Yes it will be sweet, but it is a cake after all. I actually really only recommend using cake flour for this recipe. All purpose doesn’t give you quite the same results but it will work.

I don't find it to be overly sweet personally and I use this ratio because it's what I found works best, but if you'd like you could probably reduce the sugar a little bit and it would still turn out :) If it helps give you an idea of the sweetness, Zach does not have much of a sweet tooth (how did we end up married, I have no idea 😂) and he ate an entire slice with the frosting last time I made it.
Cake looks delicious! Youbfrost like I do! Hahaa I went to feed my sourdough starter, and found 3 bugs in it! My husband looked in my LeCreuset Canister of AP flour and there were bugs crawling, lots of them. It's not full, the rest is in the freezer. I thought putting it in the freezer from the store, I was getting rid of any eggs, larvae, etc. So disappointed. I see your canisters back on your counter, what are they? I use KAF exclusively. I'm so grossed out talking about it...ewww...!!
Oh no!! That is SOOOO gross!! I got my canisters from Bed Bath and Beyond years ago. I had to add the stickers myself, but I have never had any issues with them. :)

It would be 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour, but unfortunately the cake tends to sink a bit when all-purpose is used.
